Welcome to The Pokémon Database! On this page below you'll find the recent Pokemon News and updates to this site.
Site Updates — 21 November, 2010
I finally got round to finishing our location guide, which has been in the works for a little while now. It lists every Pokemon in every location, across every game of the Pokemon series so far!
In the Pokedex you will now see an updated list of locations, with each route linking to a full page, showing all the pokemon you can find there. Or you can start on the location main page which simply lists the available routes.
The design isn't anything special right now but we will be making a lot of changes to the guide in the coming weeks, to make it much easier to browse. Locations for Black & White will probably come in the new year, or at least before they are released in America.
Finally, we also have a new search facility, located on the right of the menu. (The old sharing buttons have moved to the bottom of the page.) It searches all Pokemon, moves, types, abilities as you type. It uses some fancy modern browser technologies, so if you are using the latest version of your web browser (Chrome/Firefox/IE) you will see instant results, otherwise it will be a second or two after each letter you type.
So whatever page you're on, you can quickly jump to another pokemon or move asap!
Pokemon HeartGold & SoulSilver — 14 October, 2010
The original secret Pokemon Mew will soon be available over wi-fi in America and Europe! From October 15-30 you can download Pokemon #151 from Mystery Gift in HeartGold and SoulSilver.
As usual, you simply choose
Mystery Gift from the game menu, then
Get Via Nintendo WFC. Then you can pick up Mew from the delivery man in any Pokemart. And of course - save your game.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to catch one of the rarest Pokemon!
Site Updates — 23 September, 2010
We've upgraded our Pokedex to include moveset variations between games! Now we have all Generation 4 learnsets, plus new learnsets from Pokemon Black and White. On each Pokemon's page, you'll see tabs where the moves change between games. So check the regular Pokedex or the B/W Pokedex to see what moves Pokemon can learn.
There are a few bits missing such as the pokemon list on each move page but we're working on adding those.
Pokemon Black & White — 20 September, 2010
We now have individual pages for each of the new Black and White pokemon. Data is scarce just now but we are working on it! We also now have the proper sprites on our Pokemon Black and White pages, so everything looks really nice and clean.
Let me just say thanks to a couple of websites - firstly Pokexperto.net (Spanish site) for providing the original rough images so quickly. Then to Eevee at Veekun.com who ripped the proper sprites.
Finally, a small notice about Pokebase - I've migrated a whole bunch of questions across from the main Q&A site to the meta-site. As a result, any points gained by users on those questions were lost. It's not a huge amount but it is a bit more than I was expecting so apologies for that!
Site Updates — 16 September, 2010
Pokemon Black and Pokemon White are still 24 hours away from their official release but some people have got their copies early and the entire Pokedex of 156 pokemon has been discovered!
More and more details are being discovered and leaked so we'll bring you more as we get it.
Pokemon Black & White — 14 September, 2010
Here are the rest of the pokemon revealed in the latest issue of Japan's CoroCoro magazine. The names are given left to right.
These three pokemon are counterparts. Boappu on the left is Fire type, Yanappu in the middle is Grass type and Hiyappu on the right is Water type.
Desukan is a Ghost type pokemon, based on an Egyptian Sarcophagus.
Yooterii is a Normal type pokemon.
Tamagetake is a Grass/Poison type pokemon. It is based on a mushroom and styled like a PokeBall!
Doryuuzu is Ground/Steel and the evolution of Moguryu as expected.
Dangoro is a Rock type pokemon and rumoured to be the pre-evolution of Gigaiasu.
Ononokusu is a Dragon type pokemon, based on a praying mantis.
Mebukijika is Normal/Grass type and the evolution of Shikijika revealed last month. Like Shikijika, it changes with the seasons by sporting different antler designs.
Denchura (top) is a Bug/Electric pokemon, based on a tarantula.
Monmen (bottom) is a Grass type pokemon, exclusive to Pokemon Black.
Churine is a Grass type pokemon, exclusive to Pokemon White.
Basurao is a Water type pokemon. It has two different forms, a
Red Stripe and
Blue Stripe form
Tabunne is a Normal type pokemon. It is classified as a
Healing Pokemon, which sounds similar to Chansey.
Baffuron is a Normal type pokemon, similar to Tauros.
Choroneko is a Dark type pokemon and believed to be one of Team Plasma's regular pokemon.
That's now a total of 48 Pokemon officially revealed, plus a few yet to be confirmed. Once the games are out the information will be coming thick and fast so stay tuned! You can discuss these and the other pokemon over in the chat room on PokeBase.
Pokemon Black & White — 14 September, 2010
More details have surfaced about the legendary pokemon from the upcoming Pokemon Black & White - just 4 days away from release in Japan!! First things first - there will be a total of 156 new pokemon, taking the total to 649.
There are 9 in-game legendaries - three trios - plus 6 event legendaries. We don't have names or images yet, only types and numbers. Some of the numbering is a bit weird so may not be 100% correct.
As for the next couple of weeks, we expect pokemon details to be known pretty quickly. We'll be updating our pokedex as and when pokemon are revealed - so stay tuned!
Pokemon Black & White — 14 September, 2010
I'm a few days late posting this but never mind. The evolutions of Tsutaja, Pokabu and Mijumaru have been officially revealed in the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine.
Tsutaja's evolution is called Janobii and stays Grass-type.
Pokabu's evolution is called Chaobuu and is Fire/Fighting-type (again!)
Mijumaru's evolution is called Futachimaru and stays Water-type, although it looks like it should be part fighting.
The following three images have also surfaced, purporting to be the starters' final evolutions, however this is unconfirmed:
Keep your eyes peeled - more news coming soon!
Site Updates — 04 September, 2010
Things may have seemed a little quiet on the main site for a while, but that's because I have been redeveloping the site for the past few weeks. The biggest change is behind the scenes; we're now using the CodeIgniter PHP framework to power things and the site was basically rebuilt from scratch.
Going forward this should allow for lots more updates to come more quickly, which is good news. But it wasn't just "hidden" changes by any means - we've added a bunch of new content all over the place! It's a lot of small additions but when writing this list they really started adding up. Continue below for the whole list, but it includes a new pokedex with egg moves, tutor moves and forme information, plus a big breeding guide.
I've also made a big addition to PokeBase: a
meta site. Meta is a word referring to the self. After a few months of great questions and answers about Pokemon, it became clear that many users also have questions about this site, including how the Q&A works, or suggestions for new pokedex features.
The meta site is the place to ask all these questions! If you have registered on the main PokeBase site you will get automatically logged in to the meta site. There will be no points on the meta site and it will not affect your points on PokeBase. There may be a few errors here and there but we'll be ironing them out asap.
Site Updates — 19 August, 2010
I have made a few changes to the way the user points on PokeBase work. The result of this is that many members points have dropped slightly. It is less than a 10% change, and less than 5% for most members. Nearly every member stayed in the same relative rankings.
The main change that was made is that you now lose 1 point when voting a post down. Previously, members were mistakenly being given a point for down-voting, which is exactly the opposite of what we want! The idea is to discourage pointless down-voting, but still allow everyone to point out incorrect answers though voting. Remember, one point lost is nothing when you have several hundred or thousand points :)
So please continue to use the pokemon answers knowledgebase as normal, by voting up correct answers and the questions you find interesting/useful, and voting down incorrect answers or off-topic questions. Thanks.
Site Updates — 13 August, 2010
It's been one of the most popular requests and sorely needed ever since I opened our great question and answer platform, PokeBase. Now it's open!
You can see it by clicking the 'Chat' link from PokeBase or clicking here. All off-topic chat that's not related to a question or answer should go in here.
There may be some teething problems so be patient if anything doesn't work for you. Feel free to ask questions on Pokebase if something is wrong (don't forget to check if someone else already asked).
Pokemon Black & White — 12 August, 2010
