Pokemon Events — 15 May, 2012
A new event is underway through Nintendo WFC, offering the legendary Pokemon Darkrai. Darkrai was previously only available for a short time after the release of Pokemon Platinum.
Darkrai is a rare event Pokemon
This Darkrai has the ability Bad Dreams and the moves Dark Void, Ominous Wind, Faint Attack and Nightmare. It also holds the Enigma Berry, which restores 1/4 of the holder's HP when that Pokemon is hit by a super-effective move. It is available until June 10th.
To receive it, you do the usual and go to the Mystery Gift section in the main menu for Pokemon Black/White.
Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 — 16 April, 2012
Hey. We're working through some issues with the site but in the meantime here is the latest news. The Japanese magazine CoroCoro has leaked again with more info about the upcoming Pokemon Black 2 and White 2, and there is more information on the official Japanese site.
As already known, BW2 is a sequel to Black & White. It is set two years later and the region of Unova appears to have partly frozen over.
The new Unova map
You start in a completely new town that appears larger than Nuvema Town - its Japanese name translates at
Blackberry Lily City. And there are several new and changed locations throughout Unova, as seen in the screenshots below.
Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 — 31 March, 2012
A recent product listing on the Amazon.co.jp has revealed a couple of small details about the new Kyurem forms coming in Pokemon Black & White 2.
They appear on 3DS covers. Both forms are confirmed to be dual Dragon/Ice types. Black Kyurem is 3.3m tall, White Kyurem is 3.6m. Both are 325kg.
Nintendo have also confirmed that lots of Black & White 2 information will be revealed on Pokemon Smash next week (April 8). So stay tuned!
Site Updates — 20 March, 2012
I've been working on a nice little update to our attack database on PokemonDb. Firstly, I have spent a lot of time writing more detailed descriptions for more moves, so attacks such as Blizzard, Natural Gift or Leech Seed now have full details on their effects.
Secondly, all moves now have a graphic indicating which Pokemon the move will hit or affect. They show a triple battle layout, but just ignore the two far right places for double battles. For example, Rock Slide hits both opponents in a double battle, or adjacent opponents in a triple battle:
Finally, there is a new filter page in the move section that lists just the moves hitting multiple Pokemon.
General News — 20 March, 2012
A new official Pokemon tournament was announced recently. The format is much the same as the official VGCs (double battle format, nearly all moves and Pokemon allowed except high-powered legendaries), however, you play other people online over Wi-Fi.
Players must register for the competition beforehand and the deadline is the end of March 21st (Wednesday!) so register now if you want to take part! The competition itself runs from the 22nd to 26th March inclusive.
A Pokemon Global Link account is required. Find more information and register for the tourney here. Good luck!
Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 — 12 March, 2012
The latest issue of CoroCoro has leaked, with details on Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2. So far it looks like there is no more new information other than what we already posted in February. But it does show the Japanese box art! (UPDATE: official clear box art released.)
Pokemon Events — 06 March, 2012
A new wifi event to obtain either Reshiram or Zekrom has been announced by Nintendo. They are available via Nintendo WFC in America, Europe and Australia from March 10 to April 8.
Players with Pokemon Black will receive Zekrom, while players with Pokemon White will receive Reshiram - in other words, the counterpart Pokemon to the one you caught in-game!
Reshiram knows the moves Blue Flare, Fusion Flare, Mist and Draco Meteor.
Zekrom knows the moves Bolt Strike, Fusion Bolt, Haze and Outrage.
They are both Level 100, holding Dragon Gem, with Wishing Ribbon.
Furthermore, when sent to the Dream World, they will unlock a new area called
Eindoak for you to explore. There are new mini-games and a special C-Gear to download.
Pokemon Events — 01 March, 2012
A new Global Link event for Europe and Australia was revealed today for Lucario. This Lucario knows the move Bullet Punch, which it can learn by breeding, but not easily. It also has its Dream World ability Justified.
It's being released in conjunction with EuroGamer ahead of the Pokemon Video Game Championships in the UK, which are this Saturday March 3rd at Birmingham NEC. I'll be there, should be a lot of fun!
Pokemon Black 2 & White 2 — 26 February, 2012
Pokemon Smash has just finished airing in Japan and Junichi Masuda revealed that two new games are to be released! They are titled Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2 and will be released in June in Japan, apparently for DS rather than 3DS (though of course they will run on the 3DS). It has also been confirmed they will be out in the Autumn (Fall) in USA/Europe.
The reason for doing two games instead of the usual one is that legendary Pokemon Kyurem has two new forms resembling Reshiram and Zekrom and based on Fire and Electric.
Kyurem's two forms that will be present in Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2
From the limited information we have so far, the two games appear to be sequels to the storyline of Black & White, rather than a simple rehash. Obviously this is breaking news so we will keep updating with more as we get it!
Pokemon Black & White — 25 February, 2012
An upcoming issue of the Japanese magazine CoroCoro is set to
reveal Pokemon #647, Keldeo. Although Keldeo along with Meloetta and Genesect are already known by fans, none have been officially revealed by Nintendo.
Keldeo will be the star of the next Pokemon move, titled
Kyurem Vs. The Sacred Swordsman - Keldeo. Meloetta appears to have a role in a short film,
Meloetta's Sparkling Recital.
There is no word yet on when Keldeo will be available in the Pokemon games, nor whether it will be in Black & White or an upcoming game.

As I write, Pokemon Smash is airing in Japan so we may have some new game news very soon!
Pokemon Events — 23 February, 2012
Two Pokemon events are currently running, to get the two most powerful Pokemon in existence, Mewtwo and Arceus!
Arceus is available as the result of the
Befriend-a-Pokemon vote last year. It is received via the Pokemon Global Link - visit pokemon-gl.com, go to the Promotions page, click on the Arceus event and enter the password
ARCEUSVOTE. Then just use game sync to bring it to your game. The Arceus has the moves: Recover, Hyper Beam, Perish Song and Judgment. Event runs until May 1st.
Finally, there has been some suggestion of a possible new game announcement. Junichi Masuda (one of the directors at Game Freak) said there will be an announcement in the next episode of Pokemon Smash in Japan this weekend. Whether this will be the companion game to Black & White (commonly referred to as
Gray), Ruby/Sapphire remakes, or a completely different game remains to be seen. We'll post news as soon as we get it.
Site Updates — 22 January, 2012
If you've visited our Pokedex recently, you may have noticed we made some changes! At the top you'll see the Pokedex data has been split into three sections: the standard Pokedex data; a Traning section containing EVs, catch rate, etc; and a Breeding section containing egg groups and egg cycles.
And on the left you will find the Pokemon's name origin (a.k.a. 'etymology'). Huge thanks to members of our community who helped thoroughly research the names. I like to think we now have the best, most canonical source of Pokemon name origins on the internet.
You can also see the entire list of etymologies for all 649 Pokemon on one page! It's amazing how diverse Pokemon names are, from simple animal names to complex scientific terms. Check out the page below: you are bound to learn something new!
