What is a good moveset for Raichu?

6 votes

Thanks DT for bringing the not done ones to my attention. Time to finish these once and for all. My Raichu knows:

Nasty Plot: Increases Sp. Attack.
Grass Knot: Deals with Ground types and some Water types easily.
Encore: Makes the foe forced to repeat a bad move.
Thunderbolt: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to paralyze.

Don't be fooled by the Base 55 Defense. With Static, paired with Attract, you can cripple your opponent without breaking a sweat. Not to mention that it has great Mixed Sweeping potential, and good Speed and HP to back up that Defense.

With the right moves, you've got a good sweeper in Raichu. Not the best, by any means, but one of the best ones (Being overshadowed by only Jolteon and Electivire).

Your moveset is almost perfect, but Encore is too risky for a Pokemon like Raichu, who is 2HKO'd by (almost) any strong STAB attack. Replace Encore for Attract. I know this doesn't sound very smart, but it's really the best choice.

If you don't like Attract, then you can also try Brick Break for Screen breaking, Bide with a Focus Sash for (90% of the time, at least :P) a guaranteed KO, or Wish for team support!

Pikachu and Raichu's good attacks (Bide, Wish, Charge, Reversal, etc.) are locked away as egg moves, which is a major downside, but these moves are the key to Raichu's success. =D

Iron Tail? Maybe, Encore isnt very helpful as Riachu cant survive long enough to use it. Theres also focus blast, or dig, he wont survive earthquake anyway, underground or not.

Gen V

Raichu (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Lightningrod

EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Discharge
  • Grass Knot
  • Focus Blast
  • Hidden Power [Ice]

Switch in on an Electric type attack and start sweeping. Eveything besides Discharge is there for type coverage, and Discharge is obviously there for STAB (and a chance at paralyzing the foe.) EVs are your standard sweeper, and Life Orb helps it sweep better, especially without a Lightningrod boost.

Physical

Wild Charge/thunderpunch-He's not gonna last long anyway. Might as well make it count.

brick break/reversal-type coverage. Reversal works well with wild charge.

Fake out-Just to be annoying and get in some damage.

Fling/bestow-Nice way to rid yourself of an item, even give a useless one to your opponent.

special attacking usually works better, but this provides surprise factor.

Well, for Bestow to work the foe needs to not have an item.
Yeah, it's not like any worthless pokemon in NU abuse fake out, right?
But you do give a good point. I listed that one second for that reason.

Raichu (M) @ Life Orb

alt text

Role: Mixed Sweeper

Trait: Static

EVs: 92 HP / 128 Atk / 128 SAtk / 160 Spd

Lax Nature (+Def, -SDef)

  • ThunderPunch
  • Brick Break
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • Quick Attack

Well, Mixed isn't a popular choice on this guy.

ThunderPunch with Static Gets a more Decent 20% Chance to paralyze, Brick Break is deadly to Rock types and Ice Types aswell As Normal Types.

Quick Attack is Priority, which is always nice to have.

And HP Ice Gives ground Coverage, And can hit Dragon's pretty hard unexpectedly.

Life orb To boost both attacking stats.

Rain abuser

Thunder-Perfect accuracy and STAB.

grass knot-covers ground weakness.

hidden power [water]/[ice]-Water gets powered from the rain, or ground to deal with steel types.

encore-This locks opponent's into moves, so they can't set up on you easily.

Electro ball abuser

Raichu M Specail Sweeper @focus sash

Evs 252 spd 252 sp. atk 4 HP

Timid nature (+Speed-atk)

Trait static

  • Eletro ball (STAB and with all that speed)
  • Aglity (power up)
  • Grass knot (coverage)
  • signal beam (more coverage)

Raichu probably cant take a hit so Foucus sash is there to back it up on that first turn wher ehe takes ahit with the sash set up with agality to make electro ball unstoppable and you know what to do from there.

Gen III

Raichu (M) @ Lum Berry

Ability: Static

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Body Slam - Physical
  • Volt Tackle - Physical
  • Reversal - Physical
  • Endure

Body Slam allows for super Parahax with Static as an ability.
Volt Tackle is this thing's signature style of " Emo Battling " Killing itself and others!
Reversal and Endure is a popular choice here, with the Lum Berry to ensure Burn's don't take him down.

Double/Triple Battle

Raichu (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Lightningrod
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Light Screen
- Discharge
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Lightningrod is a great ability in a multi-battle, as it draws in Electric type attacks to protect your team while gaining a Special Attack boost from it as well. Light Screen offers team support. Discharge is a great attack, as it damages both opponents and can be used with a Lightningrod or Motor Drive teammate to really do some damage. Focus Blast and HP Ice are coverage.

I personaly think that iron tail is a good move for raichu but he has to have a decent attack raise either by nature, power bracer, protien or musle wing.
the second move ide choose for riachu would be focus blast for those tough ground pokemon with high defence
third ide choose thunder punch wich has a small chance of paralysing the target
last but not l choose nasty plot to boost that already wickedly strong focus blast

you really need to edit this. Mispells and fighting isn't super effective to ground.
