What is a good moveset for Kingler?

5 votes

Mine knows:

Crabhammer: Good power, STAB, good chance for critical hit.
X-Scissor: Good power, high accuracy, deals with Grass types.
Brick Break: Decent power, high accuracy, breaks through Light Screen and Reflect.
Rock Slide: Decent power, decent accuracy, good chance to cause flinching, deals with Flying types.

Kingler (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Crabhammer
- Claw Sharpen
- X-Scissor
- Rock Slide
If this just had waterfall! It would actually be good.
@Mechanism L Crabhammer more thatn makes up for it.

Uhhh, how can Rock Slide be STAB?  Kingler's pure Water-type!
Kingler cannot learn waterfall, so it's either Crabhammer or dive, sadly :( a sheer force boost on waterfall would be sweet if it was possible... Next, your base 75 speed will make your sweep short-lived unless you're up against a stall team. Unless it was baton-passed an agility or has tailwind support, any faster Pokemon with a grass or electric move can pick it off with giga drain, TBolt, etc. Even an ineffective special move like flamethrower will hurt because of the low special def. Just something to consider
This Pokemon is NU for a reason, so no need to restate its flaws. And my mistake on Waterfall.

Kingler (M) @ Leftovers

Role: Tank/Hazer

Trait: Sheer Force

EVs: 128 HP / 32 Atk / 96 Def / 252 SDef

Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

  • Hone Claws
  • Crabhammer
  • Haze
  • Rock Slide

I've got a bit of a soft spot for crabby here.

Now down to business, This is a classic straight up tank set.

Hone Claws provides Accuracy for Rock Slide and Crabhammer, Haze being great for support agaisn't things he's tanking.

Ev spread and Item excels tanking usage.

I like this moveset, but would it be good to have Sheer Force and lose the flinching chance on Rock Slide?

Double/Triple battle

Kingler (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Hyper Cutter
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Wide Guard
- Rock Slide
- Crabhammer
- Brick Break

Wide Guard protects teammates from multiple Pokemon hitting moves. Rock Slide hits multiple foes. Crabhammer is STAB. Brick Break is coverage. Hyper Cutter protects Kingler from Intimidate.

On the Contary pokemon PB your set and nature leaves something to be desired

Nature: Jolly, Evs 4 hp, 252 attack, 252 speed

Waterfall(STAB a must have move)

Agility(Boosts speed so it can sweep)

X-scizzor(A must use move to cover grass types)

Return/Rock slide/Brick break(Return for power and acc. or rock slide for coverage or Brick break for more reliable coverage)

Item: Life orb or leftovers depending on if you want him to hit harder or last longer

Agility is only avalible HG/SS+

for physical sweepers choose Jolly over Adamant the extra speed can save your life I should know as the master of speed.

Why raise Kinglers Speed, its low. its best to raise Attack with the Adamant nature since its Kinglers strongest stat..
Kingler cannot learn waterfall.

Gen V

Kingler (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Hyper Cutter

EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 Spd

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

  • Crabhammer
  • Hone Claws
  • Rock Slide
  • Brick Break

Hone Claws provides Kingler with accuracy (for Crabhammer and Rock Slide) and Attack boosts. Hyper Cutter prevents these Attack boosts from being taken away. Now, Crabhammer is STAB. Rock Slide and Brick Break are there for type coverage. Life Orb helps make up for the fact that Hone Claws is only a one stage boost (Crabhammer's higher base power also makes up for this). Your EVs give you offense, while also helping you survive attacks on the physical side.
