Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

Is the Masuda method really only gen 4?

I was looking through random questions and found that a question said masuda method was gen 4 only (sorry I lost the link and forgot question name) and is this true, GEN 4 ONLY?!

Edit: Heres the link, in the answer there was Gigalith and Shelmet, and it was from THIS January: http://pokemondb.net/pokebase/53324/breed-red-gyarados-from-soul-silver-ditto-will-shiny-magikarp

Please don't "shout" (use capitals) all the time. And if you have additional information you can edit your question.

You probably saw that before Gen V was made. The Masuda Method was made during Gen IV, so Gens IV and V have the Masuda Method.

The Masuda method (Japanese: 国際結婚 international marriage), also known as Masuda's method, is a fan-made term which describes a way to obtain Shiny Pokémon more easily in Generation IV and V. -Bulbapedia

It is in both.

However, in Gen 5 the chances were reduced to 1/1366 from 1/2048. The Shiny Charm was also introduced, lowering the chances even more.
