Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

Does a new generation in Pokemon mean a new console? (Apart from Gen V)?

Like:

Gen 1: Game Boy - Red, Blue, Yellow

Gen 2: Game Boy Colour - Gold, Silver, Crystal

Gen 3: GBA - Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed and LeafGreen

Gen 4: DS - Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HGSS

Gen 5: DS - Black, White, Black2, White2

Gen 6: 3DS - XY

Does this include side games as well, like Trozei and Pinball?
If not, were the consoles grouped into these generations?

Thanks. :)

I've noticed a pattern: half of the Pokemon Generations have been on Gameboy systems & the other half on Ds systems.

Well, when you think about it, the Pokemon companies want to upgrade to the newest technology possible for their games. Even though B2/W2 was released for the DS when the 3DS was released, it can be assumed that they felt like continuing on B/W's legacy with the same console. The side games usually follow the same pattern, with games such as Pokemon Trozei, Dash, and Blue Mystery Dungeon as exceptions.
