PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I have many Pokemon on my Heart-gold version that I want to Poke-transfer when I get another DS and Ho-oh's one of them. I was thinking about Roost as I want him to have Brave Bird but Roost negates the flying type for one turn and that could be fatal for Ho-oh as ground type moves would destroy him. Please suggest your opinions and movesets and items + EV spreads. Thanks.

Well Ho-oh is a bird and chickens are birds. Chickens roost... Yes.

Since Ho-oh has a massive 50% Stealth Rock Weakness, I'd go for Roost. Although this gives it an Earthquake weakness, switching is always availible :) So this...

Ho-oh @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Jolly Nature

  • Sacred Fire
  • Brave Bird
  • Roost
  • Earthquake

This is my favourite Uber spread for Ho-oh, and this should be near what you're looking for :)

Thanks. That is the same moveset I was going to put on it. But What about recover? It only has less PP I think.
Edit: I just found out that the darn thing has a modest nature. What am I going to do?
No problem :)
Oh, and for the Modest Nature, you can't do anything. You're just gonna have to carry on with that :3
Just a question: why wouldn't you just keep recover instead of roost? it gives back roughly the same amount of hp and doesn't have the user land, making it impervious to those ground type moves.

If you need a healing move then get recover. Recover doesn't have the downside of roost. For a moveset, I don't have one. I don't train Ho-oh

Okay, firstly Ho-Oh is not only Fire, but it's Flying. This means that Ground-type moves are ineffective on Ho-Oh, so don't worry about Ground-types.

I'm not one of those people who do EVs and stuff, I'm all about fainting the damn Pokemon under no circumstances. xD
But I'll suggest a few moves:

AncientPower - Non-Physical
AncientPower is a rather weak physical move, but it may also rage the Pokemon's stats at once, so when it does that, it's incredibly useful. Otherwise, though, it's a really bad move, and I wouldn't recommend learning it at all really. :/

SolarBeam - Physical (TM)
Well, there's not much to say about this. SolarBeam is just plain awesome - but it continues onto the next turn, so if you're playing competitive I wouldn't recommend it. But if you're not, this is good against Rock-type Pokemon. You'll want to get rid of them ASAP, and SolarBeam does the trick. But remember, don't learn if you're playing competitive. Otherwise, get that TM and learn it. NOW. o_o

Roost - Non-Physical
Consider learning this move, it's not half bad - I mean, it's nice to have when you need it. It heals 50% of your absent HP, so it's good when you are at 1HP. Works just like a Revive, really.

Overheat - Physical (TM)
I know Ho-Oh already has some major Sp. Atk, so consider this move as well. Overheat can do some pretty damn good damage, despite the loss of all that Special Attack. But like I said, I don't care about those stat thingys. xD So, if you are like me, go for it. :P

I'm not suggesting that has a full move set - I mean, these are just some suggestions.
Oh well, hope I helped. :)

When using Roost, your Flying type would be negated for that turn, meaning Ground type moves would be super-effective.
First you do not even understand my question as I clearly stated that Ho-oh will lose its flying type when using roost and second I really hate overheat because Ho-oh can KO a lot of pokemon when it is on the battlefield but the drops will prevent it. PS. Solar beam ain't physical. D U H !
For your first point, I briefly stated about that error I made. Then I suggested a move, but then again I stated another three moves. And I had no idea you hated Overheat, and for your PS, I didn't know Solarbeam was physical. Sorry about that, but it does physically hit the opposition, inflicting damage, if I remember correctly.

Honestly, I don't think I deserved that downvote from you, thank you very much. ._.
It doesn't matter whether you think it deserves an Upvote or not, so ranting won't help.
And if you're thinking I downvoted, you're very wrong.
Physical, Special, and Status are the three categories of moves.
Ancientpower, Solarbeam, and Overheat are special.
Roost is status.
Some examples of Physical moves would be Rock Slide, Earthquake, Brave Bird, and Sacred Fire.
