How come I can't battle trainers with my vibrava in Pokemon sapphire?

In Pokemon sapphire, whenever I use vibrava against a trainer it takes me back to the game menu. The last battle that didn't glitch was with the flying gym leader. Now I am at victory road. Whats wrong with it, and can I fix it?

I have the exact same problem. I can battle wild pokemon, but with trainers it resets to the opening screen. Quite annoying. Does this change when it becomes a Flygon?

Having the *exact* same problem in 2021 on an old GBA. After beating the Fortree Gym, every time my Vibrava appears in battle against a trainer, the game crashes back to the intro cinematic as soon as the menu appears. How strange! I have to assume that it's not possible to fix beyond discarding the Vibrava.

Not sure if this would be helpful outside of satisfying my curiosity, but if you don't mind can you see what happens when you evolve it or use a different Vibrava?

It maybe just that your internal battery has something wrong with it. Try to find some guides on how to fix it.
