PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I have 3 Physical attackers and 2 Special attackers on my team and since I don't have a Fire or Psychic type on my team, I thought Ninetales would be good if it has its hidden ability which is Drought to power up it's fire type moves and make SolarBeam easier to handle, but then Delphox would be awesome for putting up screens, so I'm not sure which one to use.
I do know they are both very good at their Special Attack and Speed stats.
So which little fire fox is better?

we need the rest of your team - only the pokemon
Xerneas, Mega Gengar, Tyrantrum, Cinccino and Ferrothorn but i don't always use the same team cause i usually switch my pokemon around alot

I'm gonna argue for Ninetails, following are my reasons:

  • It gets Drought, which means all it's fire moves are stronger
  • Drought also means that it can wield Solar Beam with great success
  • It gets Extrasensory which kinda makes up for the Psychic type you are missing
  • It does not add to a Dark weakness in you team. A Psychic type is not a necessary thing to have in your team, and if you really want one, Ninetales has Extrasensory as stated above.
  • Delphox has a very limited things going for it. It's frail and lacks the firepower that Ninetales has.
  • Since your team already has two frail and fast hitters (Mega Gengar and Cinccino) I don't really see a reason why you'd want another.

Here's a set I would recommend:

1

Ninetales @Heat Rock
Timid Nature
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Moves:
Fire Blast / Flamethrower
Solar Beam
Extrasensory
Will-O-Wisp (for crippling things like Tyranitar and Mawile)

However,

I have the audacity to actually say neither. This is because both Pokemon increase your weakness to Ground (3 Pokemon weak to ground and not one resisting it, bar the pre mega-evo Gengar) which is a pretty serious weakness to have.

And since you want a fire type on your team, here's the best one you'll get out there which won't increase your weaknesses.

2

Rotom-Heat @Leftovers
Calm Nature
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Sp.Def / 4 Def
Moves:
Overheat
Volt Switch
Will-O-Wisp
Pain Split

A specially defensive Rotom-Heat, as your team overall lacks bulk aside from Ferrothorn, which is physically defensive. Overheat hurts and dents a lot of things that don't resist it. Here's a sample of what it's capable of:

>0 SpA Rotom-H Overheat vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Lucario: 390-458 (138.7 - 162.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

>0 SpA Rotom-H Overheat vs. 252 HP / 240 SpD Filter Mega Aggron: 202-238 (58.7 - 69.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Volt Switch to help you gain momentum and find good chances to bring in your fast Pokemon. Will-O-Wisp to, again, cripple threats. Pain Split for a reliable means of healing.

The big reason of choosing this is that it walls Talonflame to death, which your team is quite weak to aside from Tyrantrum. There's absolutely nothing that Talonflame can do against it, and is completely countered.

Hope I helped!

Except...i don't have a hidden ability Ninetales
Hmm... I guess you'll have to find one, because Ninetales is completely inferior to just about every fire type out there without it.
You can find some in the Fire type Friend Safaris if any of your friends has one.
Some of my friends do but non have Vulpix in it
Doesn't drought last until the poke mon with it switches out? If it does, you wouldn't need the heat rock on ninetails.
That was last gen, this gen it stays only 5 turns. And no, in last gen the weather was permanent.
If you make it hold a Heat Rock, the weather duration extends to 8 turns instead of 5

Ninetales

Pros:

  • Bigger movepool than Delphox
  • Has Drought as its Ability, which increases the power of Fire type moves

Cons:

  • All of its stats are bettered by Delphox except in Defence
  • Its tier is lower than Delphox (Ninetales is in NU, while Delphox is in RU)

Delphox

Pros:

  • Outclasses Nintales in nearly every stat
  • Is in RU compared to Ninetales' NU

Cons:

  • Has a smaller movepool than Nintales

Go for Delphox

Moveset:

Delphox @Red Card
Ability: Magician
EVs: 96 HP / 8 Def / 144 SAtk / 8 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hidden Power Ground/ Hidden Power Rock/ Psychic/ Psyshock
- Flamethrower

(from the moveset page)

Hope I helped!!

nice set but what the heck is a RU and a NU
Ninetales is NU only because of the weather nerf
NU (NeverUsed) and RU (RarelyUsed) are tiers on Pokemon Showdown! where you can battle other people online!
i know what showdown is but ok then...i feel like they don't have to rate that but ok
