PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I breed Pokemon in the game and am pretty good at IVs and EVs and such. I have thought of a few good tactics, such as

  • Safe Guard and Outrage/Petal Dance/Thrash (avoids confusion ailment)
  • Mimic and Imprison (permanent Disables last move)
  • Swagger/Flatter and Psych Up/Haze (either gives you upped stats or resets theirs)
  • Defense Curl followed by Roll Out (makes roll out stronger)
  • Rain Dance and Thunder (Thunder never misses)
  • Belly Drum and Rest (works best with a chesto berry. Maximizes attack)
  • Sunny Day and Solar Beam (solar beam no longer needs to charge)
  • Endure and Flail/Reversal (makes the attack moves really strong compared to normal)

What are some of the best move combos that you have found so far? :D
Explain your choices, and why they make good combos.

Please read all the answers before posting, to avoid duplicate answers. Yes, all 200+ of them.

And no full on movesets either, there are separate questions for that :-)

In Triple/Double battles have pokemon with the ability Storm Drain. The best choose is
Mesprit

Then use again and again Surf .While you are hitting the foe, your Gastrodon is getting more Sp.Att. and the power of Surf is awesome. Also when Gastrodon hits, gets STAB.Works best in Triple Battles .

That's why I love Surf.

I also love SURF, and GASTRIDONS!

Here is a nice troll.
You need Zoroark, Mismagius, and Lucario.
1st turn: Lead with Zoroark(Sashed), and Mismagius last. Use Nasty Plot.
2nd turn: They see ghost, so they switch to dark. Use Focus Blast!
3rd turn: Use it again, they attack and see it is Zoroark, so they switch to fighting.
4th turn: Switch to Mismagius. They Switch.
5th turn: Switch to Lucario with Justified. Use Hi Jump Kick.

Double Battle.

Zapdos and Gyarados

Have Zapdos have the Ability Lightning-rod and Gyarados Intimidate is better IMO for this but Moxie is also great.

Now Gyarados has only 1 weakness and anytime someone tries to use an Electric move on Gyarados, Zapdos gets a boost. Also if you use Intimidate your Pokemon get great bulk with both of them already having good base S.Defense they get an effective boost to their Defense. Because of this boost it actually safe to use D-dance on Gyarados to make him fast and have an even Higher Attack.

Gyarados is weak to rock.
Yes, I said "has only one weakness" that weakness is rock. His electric weakness is nullified by Zapdos' Lightning-rod.
I need better reading skills.....
first: You can't legitly get a zapdos with lightning rod.

second: If you switch into zapdos, you do get the boost except if you switch back to gyrados, you lose it.

overall, I just recomend giving the gyrados a battery.
First: PO allows you to.
Second: It says DOUBLE BATTLE.
Third: You still take damage from Electric moves even with Cell Battery.

When up against a Ditto, use the move Imprison.
Foe Ditto keeps using Struggle.
You can also use Substitute, to not take damage from Struggle/

This will always work, for Ditto's only move is Transform.
It's Hidden Ability is Impostor , which is almost same as Transform.

Happy Foe-Ditto-Annoying! :)

by
Always work, unless Ditto uses imprison on you first.
And since that Ditto user would most likely have enough of a brain to see imprison and have equal speed, you've got a 50% chance of it counter-trolling you.

In front of Ditto, use aPokemon with the ability Pressure.
This way, when Ditto uses Transform, and gets 5/n PP of our moves, we can quickly end the foe Ditto's PP supply.

This makes Ditto start using Struggle faster, and the recoil finishes it off, if you do not.

Good Pokemon for this : Spiritomb, which can resist most of its own attacks.

Beware of Leppa Berries.

Happy Ditto Annoying. :)

This is not a very good strategy as most Ditto run imposter.

Drought ability with Overheat, Hypnosis, Nasty Plot. Only possible on Ninetales.

Overheat in the sunny weather is pretty deadly though the special attack loss is a bummer. Thats when you put them to sleep and use nasty plot to get the loss back. Now you are ready to attack full force overheat again. Energy ball is just there to cover ground and water weakness. Ill put this on the ninetales moveset question too.

by

Ninetales has the ability Drought so why don't you put Solarbeam instead of Energy Ball ?
because its not so reliable when politoad or tyranitar switch in making it a 3 turn attack
excatly
This goes in the moveset question for Ninetales.
thats why i put one there to my main combo is nasty plot and overheat

Hex + Nasty Plot + Will-o-Wisp

This one works real well to cripple entire teams. Involves Stealth Rock, Aggron / Tyranitar, Roar, and Toxic / Thunder Wave.

Turn 1: Lead with Tyranitar / Aggron, and use Stealth Rock. Make sure he has BULK.

Turn 2: Use Status inflicter.

Turn 3: Use Roar.

Turn 4: Return to step 2.

Note: Skarmory can also do this with Whirlwind.
Note: Use Aggron for the low tier, and Tyranitar is OU, unfortunately.

An i have a combination to lock your opponent into a status move, which will ruin those boosters.

&

First send in a kadabra (or someone to set up stage one)and wait for someone to use a boosting move like Calm Mind. Then use Encore to ensure they keep using Calm Mind for a while. If they dont switch you can move on to the next step.

Switch into a Choice item pokemon(Band,Specs,Scarf, though the Scarf works best.) like this guy and have it use trick while the person is locked into Calm Mind. They are now stuck to not using that boosting move for the rest of the match.

P.S. i used these guys as an example because they are what im using one one of my NU teams.

Until they switch out. Maybe specs or band, since you giving them scarf will just make them faster and can pose a problem for you. Imagine giving Scizor specs?? It's murderous.
yea it would
I would pair with mean look...

Use Soak on the Opponent's Poke'mon and use Grass/Electric Type Move,
x2 Damage Instantly!

Hope I Helped Ya!

by
Yeah, but you could do more damage by just using a neutral move twice, good idea though.
Thanks :D

Two Pokemon sweep.

Genesect @ Choice Scarf

Trait: Download

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Speed

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • U-Turn
  • Thunderbolt
  • Ice Beam
  • Flamethrower

Genesect @ Life Orb

Trait: Download

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Speed

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Flamethrower
  • Ice Beam

These sets are dominant, an amazing combo.

*Send Out Heatran*
Ouch...
um... species clause?
Doesn't matter, this is a combo question. That is optional anyways.
ok then :D

Manaphy with atleast rest as a move then some other good moves and then because of its ability Hydration you can use rest the hydration will wake you up!!

by
reshown by
Other moves should be tail glow and bolt beam coverage
2 votes

Alright so you need a gliscor
Gliscor@flying gem
Acrobatics
The others don't matter

Absol@ life orb
Use a standard set but replace a move for toxic

This is a doubles stradegy.
Gliscor get poisoned by absol activating poison heal and it can still acro with flying gem and they are a pretty good core.

by
For Gliscor you would want the other moved to be substitute ( for use after toxic is used), swords dance, and earthquake.

This is a pretty killer Psychic type combo that has proven extremely useful against any Pokemon besides ones that endure or are immune to psychic (which are very few compared to how many this combo can affect).

Future Sight (automatic psychic attack 2 turns later)
Reflect (cuts damage from physical attacks)
Psychic (STAB)

Future Sight automatically deals damage right after Psychic as a finishing move or double damage combo. You can also use Recover instead of Reflect if you find your opponent's attack uber strong. Just make sure your Pokemon can withstand more than one attack (OHKO) :)

by
This is a moveset, not a combo.

This one kills.

Magic Guard + Cosmic Power.

Switch in on a wall or staller, set up Cosmic Power many and many times, and then youare invincible! Watch out for phazing...

Use this to destroy Mono-psychic teams or any Psychic type Pokemon for that matter!
(Stuff in bold is a must!)

Turn a move with a Base Power of 40 into a destructive 320 power attack!!!

Scizor @ Life Orb
Technitian
Nature: preferably Adamant
EVs: preferably Atk/Spe
Moves:
Pursuit

This will do Base Power x Tech x Life Orb x Switching outx Super effective= pwnage

By switching thic guy in they automatically think "get my guy out of there" Next use Pursuit no matter what. They will either not switch out and it will do (BPxTechxLifeOrbxSE=40x1.5x1.5x2) 180. Ooor they will switch out and it will do (BPxTechxLifeOrbxSExSO=40x1.5x1.5x2x2) 320. Either way they will be at leat 2HKO if not OHKO on the first one!!!

Sorry to break this to you, but Technician doesn't work if Pursuit's power is doubled.

This one Boushes xD

You need a gliscor holding a toxic orb and poison heal...o ya fling too

Act 1:

Gliscor gets into battle with a opponent whos not poison/steel/unaffected by poison

Gliscor happily absorbs toxic orbs power

Gliscor:Aw its empty here you can have it Fling

Opponent:Oh thx...Gets badly poisoned...

Gliscor Uber Pwned xD

by
Do some Acrobatics at the end for a finishing touch. XD
