PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I started playing again, and I'm reading about "Living Pokedex's." The description I'm seeing is

A living Pokédex is a fan term for a game which not only has a complete Pokédex, but has one of every available species of Pokémon stored in its PC boxes as well,

By "species," does that mean, for example, that I have to have a Bulbasaur, Ivysaur and Venusaur, all at the same time? If this is the case, would it generally be considered cheating to attain a Bulbasaur, backup your save (for example, form Fire Red to a DS Flash cart), transfer it to Pokemon Box, restore the save, evolved the Bulbasaur to Ivysaur, backup, transfer to Box, restore the save, evolve dot Venusaur, transfer to box? Or is that generally considered just judicious use of features?

Living Dex's require you to have all the Pokemon, so having a full dex would be to have a Squirtle, Wartortle and a Blastoise. However Living Dex's are not as restrictive as you think. Technically you could just breed a starter, but using your long method is technically fine. If you have a no hacking rule then you obviously couldn't do that but here are some easier methods

  • Breeding. It's just so much easier

  • Starting a Pokemon game, trading the starter and resetting. Rinse and repeat.

I hope this helps and answers your question
