Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Hitmonlee?

3 votes

My brother just traded me a Hitmonlee. It knows:

Mega Kick: High Power

Blaze Kick: Makes use of Hitmonlee's high Attack

Hi Jump Kick: Makes use of Hitmonlee's ability, high power, STAB

Jump Kick: Same as Hi jump Kick for ability, STAB

Hitmonlee learnset

My brother is trading away some of his Pokemon to make room in his PC. He's catching Pokemon to get Held Items.
Hitmonlee (M) @ Normal Jewel
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Bullet Punch
- Stone Edge
^Not trying to be a prick or anything trachy but you are missing 2 EVs
Lol

Fun fact: This thing can learn Bounce, FTW.

Use:
High Jump Kick (High Power, boost from Reckless and STAB)
Blaze Kick (high power,coverage)
Sucker Punch (type coverage, priority, makes up for hitmonlee's low speed and makes use of it's high attack)
Stone Edge (type coverage)

also you can switch High Jump Kick for Close Combat or Brick Break if you don't want recoil moves.

Hitmonlees LOW speed um Hitmonlee has very good speed its a sweeper not a tank.

This is a very good moveset but jumpkick should be stone edge

instead for type coverage.

Gen V

Hitmonlee (M) @ Normal Gem

Trait: Unburden

EVs: 252 Atk / 172 SDef / 84 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Fake Out
  • Close Combat
  • Stone Edge
  • Bullet Punch

A problem with Hitmonlee has always been low Speed. Unburden fixes that problem. You use Fake Out, which activates Normal Gem and will do some nice free damage. Now you've got Speed in the 400 range. Close Combat is more reliable than Hi Jump Kick, and your ability is Unburden, not Reckless. Stone Edge provides type coverage. No matter how fast you are, there is still a chance that you can be outsped. So Bullet Punch provides priority. Sucker Punch isn't used because it isn't able to be used along with Unburden. Your EVs give you enough Speed to outspeed most foes after Unburden. Attack is maxed out, and some bulk on the special side is also given.

but why invest in bulk when close combat lowers your defenses?

ScrewyouHax! (Hitmonlee) (M) @ Life Orb

Role: Anti-Hax Switch in Killer

Trait: Limber

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Stone Edge
  • Focus Punch
  • Bullet Punch
  • Earthquake

This set takes alot of predicting to use.

The point being, Para-hax has gotten to be a real pain lately, so here's how you solve it!

Limber lets you switch in on Paralyzation, without getting paralyzed, if you predict the switch, you get a nasty STAB Focus Punch blow in! Which can beast your opponent up, but some opponents like togekiss, need to be taken down with Stone Edge.
And others with Earthquake.

Close Combat: An extremely powerful attack.

Stone Edge: Powerful attack that can deal with multiple foes.

Sucker Punch: Powerful priority attack.

Earthquake: Despite the type coverage being mostly taken by Close Combat, it can be used to deal with Poison type foes.

answered Dec 15, 2010 by trachy
It's a good set, but some flaws are that, instead of Earthquake, maybe Bullet Punch? It deals with the Fairy type, which is super effective against it. Also, Brick Break instead of Close Combat, for, having low Defense already, it's basically suicide.

Double/Triple Battle

Hitmonlee (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Wide Guard
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Hi Jump Kick

Wide Guard protects your team from multiple Pokemon hitting attacks. Rock Slide and Earthquake hit multiple Pokemon. Hi Jump Kick is STAB.

Hi Jump Kick: STAB, high power and a good chance to hit
Blaze Kick: Covers multiple Sweepers and Threats to Hitmonlee

Hitmonlee @ Normal Gem
Jolly Nature
Unburden
252 Atk/ 160 SDef/ 36 Def
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Sucker Punch

so you fake out to grab a speed boost, then beat the crap out of anything that opposes you. if they pull out a Psychic, Sucker Punch it right in its stupid face. Stone Edge Covers Flying Types and Ice types, if you decide you don't want a Close Combat drop over an Ice kill.

Lol Slip, Sucker Punch can't be used alongside unburden ._.

I just thought of this moveset

Ability: Unbruden
Item: Liechi Berry
Nature: Anything that lowers defense or Sp defense and increases speed or attack

Moves:
Endure
Reversal
Blaze Kick
Stone Edge/Rock Slide

EV's
252 Attack
252 Speed
4 Health

I haven't tried this set out yet, I literally just thought of it, I see a few problems if they don't get you down to 1 HP, but this set can in theory do a lot of damage.

If this set doesn't work I have tried the Normal Gem/Fake out sets and they do work really well

answered Aug 1, 2013 by Kathuzada
this is awesome guys. i have tried it out myself. wrecked by priority but its a magic combo.

I would go with this moveset-
Move-High Jump Kick: Power gets doubled due to reckless.
Move-Blaze Kick: High Crit Ratio. 10% Chance to burn.
Move-Fake Out: Mess up a sash.
Move-Low Kick: Make use of high attack. Take out very heavy Pokemon.
Item-Wide Lense: Increase accuracy of High Jump Kick.
Ability-Reckless: Powers up High Jump Kick.

With his high speed stat it can come in make a kill or two, ruin a sash, then leave. It has not failed me once.

Hitmonlee

Suggested ability: Unburden;
Suggested item: normal gem

  • Earthquake/Sucker punch/pursuit -Type Coverage, or cover ghost and psychic types that might give you trouble.
  • Close Combat:-STAB. Less risky than Hi jump kick. If the opponent
switches into a ghost type, you'll
lose about half your health with HJK.
  • Stone Edge: Covers flying weakness.
  • Fake Out: Pretty simple. Get a bit of damage on the opponent while boosting speed a bit with unburden.
answered Jul 14, 2011 by DarkTyphlosion
As I mentioned in my moveset explanation, Sucker Punch is not able to be used along with Unburden.

i forgot about me sweep set

hitmonlee @ leftovers umburden
evs 255 Attack/ 255 Spd
jolly nature
endure +2 speed
reversal oh yeah
fake out +1 speed
anything you want bullet punch or stone edge it doesn't matter

thats my reversal hitmonlee
hope this helps :|

answered Aug 16, 2011 by Sh!nyFlygon
Fake out only raises speed if you have a Normal Gem ( You lose your Normal Gem activating Unburden )
hey j look @ leftovers
Give him a Sitrus Berry or Focus Sash and replace Endure with an attack.
-------------------------------
P.S. I know this old.
Unburden doesn't work like that, you need the item to be removed from your pokemon for it to work

Heres mine
Abillity: reckless -stats:attack high
Equipped:sharp claw
Moves:
high jump kick
blaze kick
fake out
stone edge

use fake out to get a free hit at the start of a battle. With recklessness it powers up high jump kick also with sharp claw it has a chance to get a critical hit. Stone edge also has a high chance for critical hits and sharp claw plus that and u will get critical 50% of the time. i put blaze kick cuz i like fire.

Here's my set:
Ability: Unburden (recommended) or Limber

Item: Leftovers (everytime your item used, your unburden ability will raise your speed)

Moves:

Brick Break:
STAB and may break barriers

Bulk Up:
hitmonlee has weak defense so, this move is used to boost hitmonlee's defense and attack (and, to banish them away!)

Rock Slide:
need to cover hitmonlee's weakness? Well, he has 2 weakness. FLYING and PSYCHIC. when I look back, more flying type Pokemon than psychic type Pokemon. So, use this
move to cover Flying Pokemons.

Earthquake:
Covers more weakness

Hope this is helpful

Hitmonlee for me has to be a fast physical user.

With that, I'd go with

Nature: Adamant/Jolly
Stats: 252 atk, 252 spe, 4 spd

Drain Punch= STAB and healing
Blaze Kick- Mainly for no real reason, other then type coverage
Poison Jab- For the coming 6th gen to deal with Fairy Types
Earthquake/Stone Edge/Rock Slide- Depending if you want to kill Flying Types, or just get some good coverage.

answered Sep 21, 2013 by PsynirasMaster
Poison Jab doesn't give much to it. I understand what you mean for Gen 6 but until it comes out let's leave sets for the future out of it. Drain Punch seems good, but HJk can be used as  better alternative for more power. Earth quake is fair nuff, try EQ and SE. Plus you don't have an item listed here.....
