Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Hitmonchan?

1 vote

My sister just traded me her Hitmonchan. It knows:

Mega Punch: Hitmonchan's ability powers it up.

Vacuum Wave: Attacks first, STAB.

Thunderpunch: Deals with Flying types. Powered up by ability.

Ice Punch: Deals with Flying types. Powered up by ability.

Mach Punch: A truely powerful priority with Hitmonchan.

Ice Punch: Deals with Flying types.

Fire Punch: Deals with Bug types.

Earthquake: Deals with Poison types.

An excellent option is Focus Punch, which is incredibly powerful with Hitmonchan, although Close Combat is more reliable.

Umm, why would hitmonchan want to deal with bug types when they aren't very affective on him?
Because otherwise it cannot hit them...

Gen V

Hitmonchan (M) @ Choice Band

Trait: Iron Fist

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Bullet Punch
  • Drain Punch
  • ThunderPunch
  • Ice Punch

All moves get boosted by Iron Fist. Bullet Punch provides priority, Drain Punch is STAB that also heals you, and Thunder and Ice Punch are type coverage. Sweeping EVs.

Rayman (Hitmonchan) (M) @ Big Root

Trait: Iron Fist
EVs: 240 HP / 112 Atk / 16 Def / 140 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- ThunderPunch

Bulk up = Bulk.
Drain Punch is STAB and your primary attacking move, it also pairs well with Big Root ( Thanks to Heinz Ketchum for making me think of that )
Ice Punch + Thunder Punch is a great coverage combo to abuse.

I use pretty well the same set, my EVs vary a bit to my taste, but not much. One thing I would suggest is to use Big Root, it gives a 30% increase in power to Hitmon's STAB Drain Punch (150 power after factoring STAB, Iron Fist, and Root Boosts). As Drain Punch is the most used attack on this set, increasing its power (and recovery) further will only help your success.

Your move set is great. You might want to give it pursuit or theif to deal with psychic types, but since those moves aren't very strong and your ability does not help them you should think about it first.

What I would give mine is:
Sky uppercut (stab)
Ice punch (type coverage)
Natural gift (with the berry which will effect psychic types, it works quite well with my torterra, I had to use it had no good rock type attacks left)
Thunderpunch (tupe coverage)

Double/Triple Battle

Hitmonchan (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Rock Slide
- Drain Punch
- Earthquake
- Ice Punch

Rock Slide hits multiple Pokemon, as does Earthquake. Drain Punch is STAB. Ice Punch is type coverage. Some Pokemon are just straight-foward.

A great moveset for Hitmonchan:

Ability: Iron Fist

Ice Punch - deals with Ground, Flying, Dragon, and Grass types. More coverage than ThunderPunch, so I highly recommend using Ice Punch rather than ThunderPunch.

Bullet Punch - deals with Rock and Fairy Types. Priority move as well.

Drain Punch - STAB, recovers HP, paired with Iron Fist ability, need I say more?

Focus Punch or Sky Uppercut - using a good strategy, I'd choose Focus Punch, but if you're wary about using it, choose Sky Uppercut instead.

This is an up-to-date Hitmonchan moveset, a couple weeks after the release of X and Y . It's very effective. (y)

Don't need to be so rude about it. A person is asking for help with a moveset, not proclaiming it to be the best moveset ever.
Kick back dude. I was merely stating. Don't be one of those people pls.
BTW using thunderpunch covers the water/psychic type  (slowbro) that sees a lot of use.  Don't be so aggressive because you don't understand something, ask questions or do what EVERYONE ELSE DID...post a reply that doesn't include negativity.

I would say
-hold Leftovers
-Substitute(you'll find why)
-Focus Punch(godly with substitute)
-Ice punch(Deals with Dragon/Flying/Grass/Ground)
-Well the last move's your choice!

This is my first answer plz tell me how I did!

I would deff put in a last move and not leave a " your choice " that's an easy way to get down-voted.
A suggested nature and role / EVs is also nice so viewers have more of an idea of what you're aiming for. For this particular set I would suggest Thunder Punch for good coverage with Ice Punch.

This is the moveset I like to use for Hitmonchan:
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVS: 252 Attack, 248 Speed, 8 HP
Adamant Nature (+Attack, -Sp. Attack)

Moveset:
Drain Punch (STAB, Ability, and Healing)
Ice Punch (Ability and Coverage)
ThunderPunch (Ability and Coverage)
Earthquake (Makes good use of high attack and can deal with more enemies at the same time)

Hitmonchan @ Choice Scarf
252Atk, 252 Spe, 4whatever,

Ability; Iron Fist
Nature; Jolly

Mach Punch
Fire Punch
Ice Punch
Thunder Punch

This set is like a slightly weaker Diggersby, (You can run Adamant with web, and match that mofo) and not only provides priority to face off personally against the bunny, and greninja's dark half, it also packs a physical bolt beam, and access to fire punch will really piss a lot of sun grass users that have chlorophyll, but get outsped by your scarf.

Wow, a lot of these don't make true use of Hitmonchan's stats. Whilst he has got high attack and a good ability and moveset to match, there are much better sweepers. The Hitmonchan I use works as a special wall. He has brilliant Sp. Def and his mediocre speed will allow him to out speed the majority of other tanks by having around 95 speed at Lv. 50, un-boosted. Here's my set for a special wall:

Hitmonchan
Ability: Iron Fist
Item: Big Root
EV's: 252 Att, 252 Sp. Def, 6 Speed

Moves:
Drain Punch (Healing and massive power from Big Root, Iron Fist and STAB)
Bulk Up (Cover weak Defence)
Bullet Punch (Priority, deals with Fairy Types and good against fast Ghost Types, especially Frosslas to prevent it from setting up hazards)
Fire/Ice Punch (Powered up by ability, it depends on what base you want to cover, Ice Punch deals with Dragons and Flying, however Fire Punch mixed with Bullet Punch can be very good against Ageislash which usually causes a bit of trouble for my teams)
