What is a good moveset for Tentacruel?

6 votes

Mine knows:

Wring Out: Used as the first attack can do a ton of damage, allowing the foe to be easily finished off.

Brine: Used in combination with Wring Out to easily finish off the foe. Decent power otherwise, high accuracy, STAB.

Sludge Bomb: Good chance to poison, good damage, high accuracy, STAB.

Swagger: Confuses the foe. My Tentacruel is EV trained in defense.

Gen V Set for Tentacool

Tentacool (M) @ Eviolite

Trait: Liquid Ooze

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef

Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

  • Toxic Spikes
  • Aqua Ring
  • Barrier
  • Confuse Ray

Eh, set up Toxic Spikes. Then survive for as long as you can with Confuse ray, Barrier, and Aqua Ring. EVs are for walling. Liquid Ooze is nice for switching in on Giga Drain or Drain Punch, as well as Will's Gengar.

Tentacruel (M) @ Leftovers

Role: Tank

Trait: Liquid Ooze

EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Def / 4 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Swords Dance
  • Waterfall
  • Poison Jab
  • Confuse Ray

Okay, Simple Yet effective EV's.
In realy time Gameplay, this guy is great to switch into on a Drain Punch or Giga Drain and piss someone off, so you get to confuse them on the switch, Set up your Swords, and Start Tank murderering.

Waterfall and Poison Jab are both Straight up STAB, While Swords Dance is there for attacking Support, and Confuse Ray to help him Safely set up Swords Dance.

Set-up-er

Tentacruel - Bold nature (^Def -Atk) # Black Sludge
+ 252 Sp Def EVs / 200 Def EVs / 58 Sp Atk EVs

  • Toxic Spikes (To set up)

  • Sludge Bomb (STAB, good power, 30% chance to Poisin, wow!)

  • Barrier (If you get a chance to set this up to prepare for Earthquakes or something)

  • Surf (STAB good power)

By the way, this moveset is pretty geared toward Gen IV, but you probably can make use of this in Gen V. You can of course switch Surf with Scald if you wish.

Okay, the idea here is to set up Toxic Spikes to make an entry hazard for your opponents Pokemon. If you survive attacks after setting up Toxic Spikes twice, you can set up Barrier to become even harder to kill. After using as many Barriers as you wish, start spamming attacks until you get KO'ed. The main idea is to really set up Toxic Spikes to aid your other Pokemon however, keep it in mind!

Gen V

Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge

Trait: Rain Dish

EVs: 136 Def / 24 SAtk / 96 SDef / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Toxic Spikes
  • Venoshock
  • Surf
  • Aqua Ring

Use in rain to maximize effectiveness.Combined Black Sludge, Rain Dish, and Aqua Ring provides nice healing. You can set up Toxic Spikes, which causes your opponent trouble. It also makes Venoshock an extremely powerful STAb Attack, and Surf can deal with plenty of Steel types. Surf gets powered up by the rain and is STAb. Your defensive EVs are there to provide you with nice bulk, which makes you hard to defeat along with great typing and plenty of healing. Your Speed is mainly there for setting up Toxic Spikes, and is nice for when you attack the foe. You don't have much Special Attack, but Venoshock will have high power thanks to STAB and Toxic Spikes, while Surf will have high power thanks to Rain and STAB.

Double/Triple Battle

Tentacruel (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Rain Dish
EVs: 216 SAtk / 88 SDef / 204 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Sludge Wave
- Acupressure
- Blizzard

Doesn't hit the hardest, but it does good damage with high base power. Black Sludge and Rain Dish give Tentacruel nice healing. Surf is STAB that hits multiple foes, as is Sludge Wave. Blizzard is coverage that can hit multiple foes. Acupressure can be used to increase the stats of a teammate (or Tentacruel. I would go with a mixed sweeper though.)
