Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Vaporeon?

2 votes

Mine knows:

Muddy Water: Good damage, STAB, good chance to lower accuracy.

Ice Beam: Good power, high accuracy, chance to freeze, used to deal with Grass types.

Dig: Good damage, used to dodge attacks, high accuracy, used to deal with Electic types.

Aqua Ring: Used to heal Vaporeon. Makes Poison pretty much useless.

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 176 SAtk / 80 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Boil Over
- Wish
- Ice Beam
- Protect
Vaporeon (Female) Item: Lefties
Ability: Water Absorb
-Scald
-Wish
-Acid Armor
-Protect
Thats dumb. Dig does nothing, because of vaporeons awful attack
Dig is horrible move for vaporeon because its pysical and vaporeon is a speical attacker?!

How about surf instead of muddy water? its got WY better acc. Dig isnt tht strong with vaporeons low attack. Shadow ball is good.

I do like Shadow Ball. My Vaporeon in XD had that. I'll take it.

Vaporeon (M) @ Choice Specs

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers

Role: Rain Tank

Trait: Hydration

EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 160 SDef

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Rest
  • Muddy Water
  • Acid Armor
  • Shadow Ball

With Rain support

Tons of hp for a Hefty Leftovers boost, Rest takes you right back up to full with no Waiting in the Rain for a Hydration user,

Muddy Water gives you a chance at the ever so annoying Accuracy Decreaser, which can sometimes force a switch, while it still has good power, and Shadow ball gives good coverage, while Acid Armor builds your Defense stat to be as good as your Special defense, and then much much better.

Nature: Modest, Evs: 252 S.attack, 252 Hp, 4 S.def

Acid armour(Boost that bad defense and make yourself invincible)

Surf(STAB)

Ice beam(covers grass)

Baton pass/wish/aqua ring/shadow ball(share the def boost/healing for the wall, other healing option, coverage)

Vaporeon (Staller)

  • Calm nature (^Sp. Def -Atk)

    • 252 HP EVs / 100 Def EVs / 158 Sp. Atk EVs
    • 252 HP EVs / 200 Sp. Atk EVs / 58 Def EVs

  • Surf/Scald (Powerful STAB, and take advantage of its high Sp. Atk!)
  • Wish (If used properly, you can heal yourself as well as others!)
  • Protect (To actually stall, and even stall your way to healing yourself with Wish!)
  • Aqua Ring/Ice Beam (This depends on your type of team, and style of playing)

Gen V

Vaporeon (F) @ Leftovers

Trait: Water Absorb

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Surf
  • Toxic
  • Ice Beam
  • Wish

The original bulky water. Use Toxic on the foe, then use Wish to stay alive and hit hard with STAB Surf and your Ice Beam type coverage to bring the foe down quicker. You have plenty of bulk, and nice Special Attack. Water Absorb allows you to heal back up by switching in on Water attacks, and Leftovers heals you.

Vaporeon (F) @ Leftovers

Trait: Water Absorb

EVs: 252 HP / 160 Def / 96 SAtk

Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

  • Toxic
  • Roar/Aqua Ring
  • Surf
  • Wish

The idea is to Toxic something, Roar takes out another pokemon so you can use toxic again or aqua ring to stall 1 at the time, surf for some fresh STAB, Wish for healing when needed.

Why not try for Modest (+ SAtk - Atk) so you don't lower a potentially useful stat?

Double/Triple Battle

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Helping Hand
- Blizzard
- Hidden Power [Electric]

Surf is STAB that hits multiple foes. Blizzard hits multiple foes. helping Hand provides team support. HP Electric is coverage.

answered Jan 20, 2012 by trachy
Why Surf and Blizzard if you trained in Attack? why not train in special attack? unless the entire point  was to get the hidden power.
He has it trained in SAtk, and all the moves are special

This is what I use
Surf - STAB + HM
Ice Beam - Coverage and defeats grass types
Acid armour - do something about that horrible defense
Hydro Pump - Powerful STAB, who cares about accuracy

Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
Item: Leftovers

  • Surf (More reliable than Muddy Water with 15pp and full accuracy)
  • Ice Beam (Takes down the flying and the important grass types, and is a great move in general)
  • Acid Armour (Effectively boosts that bad defense, and makes Vaporeon a tank thanks to the SDef boosted nature and that awesome HP stat. It's like Umbreon with curse.)
  • Baton Pass/Wish/Aqua Ring/Shadow Ball (Baton Pass passes away the defense boosts/Wish to heal yourself/Aqua Ring gets a great continuos healing combined with Leftovers/Shadow Ball is another great attack for the psychic and ghost types)

i'm not really an expert and all, but I think this vaporeon will work ( based on my observations with the other answers)

( nature and ev spread is all on you, 'cause I don't really think that it's that important)

surf- high 90 base power and, in double or triple battles, it can hit all Pokemon in the field (which serves as an advantage and a disadvantage)
ice beam- it deals with ice, it has a high base power and it can freeze Pokemon
shadow ball- takes care of ghost and psychic, plus has 80 base power
aqua ring- can heal vaporeon and takes advantage of vaporeon's base hp

the item I will recommend for this kind of moveset is life orb. its so obvious because when vaporeon first sets up aqua ring, the life orb recoil will be reduced.

please try to suggest things that will improve this answer.

Staller Vaporeon for a Rain team. Possible Lati Twins counter.

Vaporeon
Trait: Hydration
@ Leftovers
252 HP, 252 SpeDef, 4 SpeAtt
Surf
Ice Beam/Rain Dance/Haze/Toxic
Aqua Ring
Protect

Choose between Ice Beam, Rain Dance and the other depending on whether you want it to stall with Status, be a Hazer, etc.

One of my favorites. I was lucky enough to get a female Eevee(: So Vaporeon is actually a mermaid and not a mer-man...

My Vaporeon:

"Docile"
"Highly Curious"

Item: Leftovers

  • Surf
  • Ice Beam
  • Aqua Ring
  • Acid Armor

Surf is a great STAB, and Ice Beam covers Grass disadvantage. Paired with Leftovers, Aqua Ring will restore a good chunk of HP each turn. Acid Armor is good for raising Defense, since Vaporeon's is low. I don't use Vaporeon in my party THAT often, but when I feel like switching around she's one of my favs to use, especially in double/triple battle when she has back up. Yeah, I know, coolstorybro. XD

vaporeon
Vaporeon (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature:Lonely
Moves:
Wish (Restores 1/2 of maximum HP at the end of the next turn)
Ice Beam (10% chance of freezing target)
Muddy Water (30% chance of lowering target`s accuracy by 1)
Protect (User evades all attacks that turn)

Vaporeon @ Leftovers
Role: Special wall on my Trick Room team
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP, 252 sp. def, 4 def
Sassy Nature
Scald
Yawn
Roar
Heal Bell

Scald is for the status (burn). Yawn is to either put the foe asleep or force them to switch out. Roar is for annoying Pokemon that try to sweep my team. Heal bell for obvious reasons.

This is my first suggestion, so here goes nothing...

Vaporeon (M) @ Leftovers

Ability: Water Absorb

EVs: 252 SDef / 128 Def / 128 Speed

Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

  • Surf (High power, good accuracy, STAB)
  • Ice Beam (Good power, covers weakness against Grass, also deals with Dragon, Flying and Ground types)
  • Acid Armor (Increases defense by +2 stages, covers Vaporeon's naturally low defense)
  • Hyper Beam (To destroy the most threatening such as electric types... until it comes to Magnezone...)

Now most people say +SpDef but I'm going with Defense as Vaporeon seems in need of some good Defense. We can always add to Special Defense in the EVs. If you plan to use Vaporeon in Double or Triple Battles, I prefer to use Muddy Water instead of Surf as it avoids friendly fire and has a +30% chance of lowering opponent's accuracy.

Hope I did good! ^_^

Mine (Gen IV) knows:

Vaporeon @Leftovers
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk/ 128 Def/ 128 Sp. Def
Modest Nature (+Sp Atk/ - Atk)
Ability: Water Absorb

Surf: STAB, nice power, perfect accuracy
Ice Beam: Great move, good power, perfect accuracy, used to deal with grass types
Aqua Ring: Combined with Leftovers make a huge, useful difference of HP between turns
Fake Tears: Decreases foe's Sp. Def two stages powering up Surf and Ice Beam.**
