Staller Meganium*

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Leaf Guard / Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Def / 106 SpD
Calm Nature
- Leech Seed
- Protect
- Toxic
- Energy Ball / Synthesis

The idea here is to stall stall stall!
First, you set up with Leech Seed to start draining your opponents HP. It's preferable you have the opponent poisoned beforehand so that Meganium won't have to use Toxic itself (maybe with Toxic Spikes). But just in case, have Toxic to start damaging your foe anyway. After using any of the above moves, Leech Seed, Toxic, Energy Ball/Synthesis, use Protect! It will give you a free turn of healing HP with Leech Seed and Leftovers! Since Protect probably won't work two or more times in a row, use it every two turns! Just be sure to use PP Up on that move if necessary. Than finally, you have Energy Ball and Synthesis. Depending if you feel like you need an attacking move, or another HP healing move in case of whatever, this is your choice. l prefer Energy Ball, since you may not be able to Leech Seed or Toxic your last foe, spam Energy Ball and hope you KO them!

This is preferred for Generation IV, but with small modifications, you can make this an effective Meganium in Generation V.

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 200 Spe / 152 Def / 152 SpD / 6 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Dragon Tail
- Ancient Power / Swords Dance

Rest is healing and makes him sleep. Sleep Talk makes him use moves while sleeping and gives all moves 0 Priority. Dragon Tail gets 0 priority while asleep, and is the main part of the strategy. Ancient Power has a chance of boosting everything, while Swords Dance is guaranteed to boost Attack so Dragon Tail does tons of damage.

Gen V

Meganium (M) @ Light Clay
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Def / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Giga Drain
- Aromatherapy

Yeah, Meganium sucks, although my brother likes him for some reason. Meganium is only going to be of help by supporting your team. So it has Dual-Screens (and Light Clay) in addition to Aromatherapy to remove status on your team. It starts to run out of support though, so Giga Drain is there to stop Taunt from completely stopping Meganium. Max defenses so you can get everything up.

Gen 7 PU / ZU

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Petal Blizzard
- Earthquake
- Body Slam
- Swords Dance

Petal Blizzard is STAB. Earthquake hits fire, poison, and steel types. Body Slam is for neutral coverage that has a 30% chance to paralyze opposing Pokemon. Swords Dance boost your attack.

Meganium @ Choice Specs
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Petal Dance
- Giga Drain
- Ancient Power
- Hidden Power [Ground]

  • Petal Dance --- sweeping force, STAB
  • Giga Drain --- Meganium doesn't have a lot of coverage, but this helps for healing
  • Ancient Power --- covers all weaknesses but Poison, the boosting is also nice
  • Hidden Power [Ground] -- covers Poison and tons of other stuff

Double/Triple Battle

Meganium (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow / Leaf Guard
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Def / 144 SpD
Calm Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Heal Pulse
- Grass Pledge

Dual Screen and Heal Pulse support. It can also team up with Fire Pledge or Water Pledge to create a field effect.

Hmmm, I would use Aromatheropy personally. In case they had T-spikes up. But a great set nonetheless.
I barely ever see Entry Hazards. The lack of switching makes them much less useful. Plus, the time it takes to set them up leaves you incredibly vulnerable.

Physical Meganium
Meganium @ Leftovers / Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 78 Def / 178 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Seed Bomb / Bullet Seed
- Earthquake
- Return / Dragon Tail

The definition of a bulky set up set.
Swords Dance is the key move.
Seed Bomb is reliable, but Bullet Seed can do more damage. Earthquake is for coverage.
Return is for extra power, but Dragon Tail can be used to force the opponent out to try to get a chance to set up another Swords Dance.

Meganium
Meganium @ Light Clay
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpD / 252 Def / 4 HP
Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Giga Drain

Meganium's role is to protect and support her team while restoring her own health. She can set up dual screens and heal from status conditions.

This is what I'm using at the moment, and it works extraordinarily well. It doesn't even need Leftovers to stay alive. It seems to work best in teams where you have another stall Pokemon for excessive healing. I paired it up with my Vaporeon in Rotation Battles, and it worked extremely well.

Meganium (M) @ Leftovers / Sitrus Berry
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Calm Nature
- Leech Seed
- Aromatherapy
- Protect
- Giga Drain / Grass Knot

You could change the items and EVs as well as nature to suit your needs based on what you want: a Physical Wall or a Special Wall. Aromatherapy is to prevent the use of Toxic on your other Stall Pokemon, Leech Seed is for healing, Protect is for enforced healing, and Giga Drain/Grass Knot is its attack.

Guys, Meganium is one of the Pokemon that is best suited for tanking/stalling. Just look at the Defenses!! So here's my set:

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
- Sunny Day
- Solar Beam
- Synthesis
- Leech Seed / Toxic

This thing never dies!! Toxic/Leech Seed depends on your preference, whether you like to get over with stuff or stall. So the strategy is simple. Activate Sunny Day, Leech Seed/Toxic your opponent, then sweep with Solar Beam. If you run low on health, Synthesis restores 2/3 of total HP in sunlight. This moveset is great for stalling, and I've eradicated many of my friends with this dude. I hope you give it a try ;)

enter image description here
Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 104 HP / 152 SpA / 252 SpD or 104 HP / 252 Def / 152 SpA
Calm / Bold Nature
- Aromatherapy / Safeguard
- Leech Seed
- Petal Dance
- Synthesis / Dragon Tail

I would go for Safeguard then Petal Dance so it won't get confuzzled, or use Aromatherapy after. Use the classic Leech Seed and heal with Synthesis or scramble up Pokemon with Dragon Tail. Meganium can be awesome with a Sub and Leech Seed+ Giga Drain too if you'd like for a longer, drawn-out battle.

Meganium (F) @ Heat Rock
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Def / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Modest Nature
- Sunny Day
- Solar Beam / Petal Dance
- Synthesis
- Toxic

If you want a Meganium that does not get statused, simply get Leaf Guard and Sunny Day. Leaf Guard gets rid of all status effects on the Pokemon when Sunny Day is up. I prefer Solar Beam over Petal Dance because you would be locked into Petal Dance, but because of Leaf Guard and Sunny Day, the confusion would not happen. Of course Solar Beam would charge in one turn due to the Sun. Synthesis heals more because of sun, it also works with Toxic to stall the opponent to get a K.O, Meganium has an insane amount of Defense and Special Defense to stall out with Toxic.

this *** use it in gen 7 zu for all I care

Meganium @ Leftovers / Mental Herb
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD or
252 HP / 200 Def / 56 SpD or
252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Bold / Impish / Calm / Careful Nature
- Leech Seed
- Toxic
- Protect
- Synthesis / Refresh / Aromatherapy (hell, you can even go for Ingrain if you want to)

So, this is a bulky Meganium. Leech Seed for chip damage and healing. Toxic for more residual damage. Protect is a must on this set, as it allows Meganium to stack Leech Seed and Toxic safely, while getting 18% of your health back if you pair the seeds with some Leftovers. Synthesis heals you, Refresh helps when you're badly poisoned or paralyzed, Aromatherapy for team support. Ingrain, Leech Seed, and Leftovers lets you regain a whopping 24% every turn, at the cost of not being able to switch out.

I would like to point out that Mental Herb can be useful for stopping taunts, but I'd still recommend Leftovers.

Bayleef is my favourite Pokemon of all time (I know it's a bit unexpected!) so I'll suggest three sets for Meganium :)

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 128 SpA / 128 Spe / 128 SpD / 128 Def
Timid / Modest Nature
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis
- Giga Drain
- Substitute

Leech Seed is for gradual draining of the foe. Substitute cuts down HP, but it can be recovered through Synthesis. While behind Substitute, drain away the foe's HP by using Giga Drain. This moveset is very limited in terms of coverage, but Meganium can be switched out after setting up Leech Seed though it may be not recommended. However, Meganium can prove to be a good staller even against Pokemon with type advantages if used wisely.

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Modest / Timid Nature
- Sweet Scent
- Leech Seed
- Petal Dance / Energy Ball / Magical Leaf
- Hidden Power [Rock]

You've probably notice that no matter how you go, you can't run away from upping Meganium's defenses. Sweet Scent + Leech Seed combo gives you a higher chance of dodging your opponent's attacks and gaining more HP. The main idea is to up its lackluster speed so it will get to move first. I prefer Timid nature for it. Petal Dance / Energy Ball / Magical Leaf is STAB and you choose what you prefer. Personally, I will go for either Petal Dance (greater power) or Magical Leaf (never miss). Energy Ball is kind of... in between. But it's up to you. Hidden Power [Rock] is for coverage against Meganium's many weaknesses but namely Flying, Fire, Bug and Ice.

Meganium @ Light Clay
Ability: Overgrow / Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Bold / Calm Nature
- Aromatherapy / Heal Pulse
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Synthesis

This moveset is quite strange, but as its role suggests, Meganium will be delegated to a Support position. Aromatherapy heals the status problems of all Pokemon in your party which may be useful, and with Light Clay, the effects of Light Screen and Reflect last for 8 turns. You use 2 turns to set up, 1 turn to switch in, and your next Pokemon will have 5 turns of great Special and Physical Defenses. Meanwhile, Synthesis is for setting up and healing Meganium. However, if you wish to Heal Pulse may be better as you can try to heal more Pokemon while using Synthesis as well before using Light Screen and Reflect, then switching out. I have a feeling that few people will want to risk this, but just throwing all the options out.

There you have it! Hopefully this helps :P

Sweet Scent lowers target's evasion by 2 stages, doesn't lower target's speed
Why Jolly?
Also, most stallers / defensive Pokemon like Tangrowth, Amoonguss, Ferrothorn, Toxapex, Blissey occasionally run one or two attacks (the grasses run Giga Drain, Ferrothorn uses Power Whip and Gyro Ball, Toxapex has Scald) but they don't have any special attack EVs or investment, instead they mainly focus on bulk and use their attacks to slowly chip the enemy down. You dont need Modest or 128 Sp. Attack EVs, you should focus on bulk instead
@SSuperiority Hello! I wasn't referring to Sweet Scent but rather the Jolly nature as seen by my next line. Also answering @DeltaEmerald, the idea is to have a Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Atk) since Meganium is pretty slow (Base Spd Stat 80) but not totally... unsalvageable (unlike ahem, Ferrothorn with its meager Base Spd Stat of 20) and with EVs invested in Spd, hopefully Meganium can strike first before it gets struck down. At least, that's the general idea since Meganium isn't particularly tanky or well, wall-like.

@SSuperiority To answer your latter point, except for the last moveset I decided to suggest a Modest nature (I've explained Jolly above ^^) because the second one is for a Special Sweeper (not sure if anyone will even run that on a Meganium but just throwing it out in case they are planning to) and the first one is more of a mixed Staller-Sweeper hence the split EVs for both SAtk and (S)Def as well as Spd to again, hopefully strike first. I know these movesets may appear strange but these were what I thought of to throw out since the "classical" answers are already out there :) No answer is the best, so I just hope to provide a different analysis of Meganium. But thanks for the queries/questioning!
But why use Jolly with special attacks? Timid won't reduce your attack damage like Jolly does.
"Jolly Nature (+Spd, -Atk)"

@DeltaEmerald they clearly have the right idea, they just got mixed up between Timid and Jolly.

@Marinaax may I ask what the purpose of Heal Pulse is on the last set?

Ok, this is my first stall moveset on this site, hopefully I will do well
Meganium
GEN VII
Meganium @ Leftovers / Big Root
Ability: Overgrow / Leaf Guard
EVs: 252 Def / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm / Bold Nature
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Giga Drain
- Dragon Tail

This set is made for Meganium be on the field for a looong time.
Leech Seed, Sub, Giga Drain and the Leftovers are to make sure that it (basically) won't faint.
Dragon Tail is to phaze any unwanted Pokémon out of your way.

Having 252 HP EVs and then the rest in Defense/SpD is better than 252 Def / 252 SpD
0 votes

BDSP competitive moveset:

Meganium @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Leech Seed
- Toxic / Synthesis / Solar Beam
- Protect
- Sunny Day

Meganium is a good staller. Use Leech Seed and Protect to stall, and add Toxic or Synthesis to keep it going. Solar Beam for offense. Sunny Day pairs with Leaf Guard so it can't have a status condition.

Gen 6 ZU

Meganium @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Def / 228 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Synthesis
- Aromatherapy
- Giga Drain
- Toxic / Dragon Tail

Gen 6 ZU is an RoA spotlight at the time of posting this, so I'd thought I'd post its Specially Defensive set here. Giga Drain is for your STAB move that chips and and provides some healing. Aromatherapy provides good support for your teammates, as it heals them of their status conditions. Synthesis is used to provide Meganium some recovery. Toxic is used to pressure opposing Pokemon and puts them on a timer, while Dragon Tail is used to prevent setup sweepers from setting up on you, and can be useful with Entry Hazards support.
