Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Camerupt?

2 votes

Mine knows:

Solarbeam: High power, high accuracy, charged by Sunny Day, used to deal with Water and Ground types.

Sunny Day: Increases Flamethrower's power, charges up Solarbeam.

Flamethrower: STAB, powered up by Sunny Day, good power, high accuracy, chance to burn.

Earth Power: STAB, good power, high accuracy, chance to lower Sp. Def.

Camerupt (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Solid Rock

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)

  • Rock Polish
  • Fire Blast
  • Earth Power
  • Hidden Power Grass/Hidden Power Ice

Rock Polish allow Camerupt to outspeed to sweep.
Fire Blast is very good STAB.
Earth Power is also STAB, and compliments Fire Blast nicely.
Hidden Power Grass gives some coverage against Water types, while Hidden Power Ice hits Flying types, mainly.

Camerupt (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Eruption
- Earth Power
- AncientPower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Scarfed Eruption user. Earth power is back up STAB, Ancient power is for that little bit of hope that one day I'll get that all stats raised up boost xD and HP Ice is for coverage. HP grass is also good.

I found this interesting moveset on my brother's Camerupt:

Earth Power
Stone Edge
Rock Polish

The only thing I would suggest would be earthquake instead of earth power because it does higher damage. It also depends on whether you trained EVs for attack or special attack.

answered Jul 20, 2010 by livers
10 points isn't much difference, keep in mind there are only so many earthquake TMs.
True, but every little bit counts and camerupt learns earthquake naturally so there is no need for a tm
Mine is not very much EV trained in Sp. Attack, not at all with Attack. I mostly did HP and Speed.

Good set, covers most scenarios. Though I think a suicide kill or tank would work better. with his double water weakness, a sunny day set just wouldn't cut it with him.

Ability: Simple

Stockpile/Curse- Just in case you don't know, Simple doubles all stat changes so Stockpile turns you into a wall and Curse is Sword's Dance and Iron Defense in one turn and minus speed.

Howl/Amnesia- I think Curse/Amnesia is a bit more reliable since it takes less time to set up but Stockpile/Howl is still cool cause'... Stockpile. Both of these do the same thing though.

Rest- To heal up.

Flame Charge- This really gives you that sweeping capability though you can still use other attacks.

I know, right! Who knew you could get this much out of a Numel! You could go for either an Impish or Relaxed nature. The EVs are really tricky since its base stats are so low but I guess HP,Defense,Special Defense, and Attack(maybe Speed.) EVs would make sense. By the way, if you thought this would be good in the metagame, it's practically indestructable in Little Cup!

Camerupt (F) @ Camerputite
Ability: Solid Rock ---> Sheer Force
Evs: 252 HP, 6 Atk, 252 Sp.Atk
Quiet (+Sp.Atk,-Spd)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Rock Slide
- HP Grass/Flash Cannon

Fire Blast and Earth Power are STAB. Rock Slide gets good coverage with the first two moves. HP Grass gives amazing coverage, while Flash Cannon hits Fairy-types for Super Effective damage.

I actually like this, but Solid Rock needs to be taken advantage of, since the turn you Mega Evolve you get Solid Rock that turn only. Try using Rock Polish instead of Rock Slide, you don't need Rock Slide

Evs :252 Hp / 128 Def / 128 Sp Def
Ability: Simple

  • Stockpile - Simple boost makes him unstoppable

  • Toxic - Stall strategy

  • Protect - Supports Toxic for more stalling

  • Flamethrower - Takes down Steel types, STAB

It took me a while to figure out what I wanted my Camerupt to have. I don't have huge problems with speed or defense. I feel like physical is the way to go.

Eruption (150 power, 100 accuracy. Yeah.)
Fissure (Does damage equal to HP, accuracy is very low but it is a one-hit K.O.)
Will-O-Wisp (Burns opponent.)
Facade (Double damage to foe if user is burned, poisoned or paralyzed.)

Earthquake (In place of Fissure.)
Protect (Good for blocking attacks)
Stone Edge/Giga Impact (In place of Facade)
Flame Charge (Does damage and raises user's speed)

Really gengarchomp? Because my Camerupt is doing just fine with this strategy.
Yeah, this thing is quite impressive.

Vesuvius (Camerupt)@ Cameruptite

enter image description here

Role: Tank
Trait: Solid Rock -----> Sheer Force
EVs: 200 HP / 172 Sp. Def / 136 Def
Calm Nature (-Atk , +Sp. Def)

  • Flamethrower
  • Earth Power
  • Stealth Rock / Yawn / Ancient Power
  • Toxic

After the ban of Camerupt and its mega-stone in NU, it moved to greener pastures in RU. The Mega-Stone that OR / AS gave to Camerupt was a blessing and gave it very solid defenses of 75 / 100 / 105. Because of this and its unique typing, Camerupt can be used effectively as a Tank for troublesome Grass-types, Electric-types, and Steel-types.

EVs and Nature are meant to give Camerupt good walling capabilities and deal with certain threats, such as M-Audino and Kabutops.

Flamethrower gets STAB and is more reliable than lower-accuracy moves, such as Fire Blast, yet still have higher-power than other moves like Lava Plume.

Earth Power compliments Flamethrower very well. It deals with Pokemon that resist Fire-type moves, such as Rhypherior.

Stealth Rock is a good entry-hazard and should be used unless if you already have a SR setter. In this case, Yawn would be more effective and forces switches if used properly. Ancient Power is another move that can be used to deal with annoying Flying-types, such as Fletchinder.

Toxic is a good Status-move that cripples any walls, such as Alomomola.

Other Options

A wall-breaking set can be done. For example, a good wall-breaking set would have the EVs: 252 HP / 252 Sp. Atk / 4 Def and the moves: Fire Blast, Earth Power, Ancient Power / Hidden Power [Grass] , Will-O-Wisp.

Rock Polish or Growth can be used on a sweeper-set, but Rock Polish still isn't good enough to raise its speed, while Growth doesn't give much of a boost (only one stage) and M-Camerupt is too slow to make any good use of it.

Ability: Anger point
EVs: 252 Hp / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
-Flame charge (this is fairly low power but with the monstrous Atk boost he gets from anger point +STAB +sheer force, it's worth it)
-Sleep talk

This moveset needs to be used in double battles with a Pokemon that has frost breath, or through some other means has 100% crit rate (such as stick holding Farfetch'd with slash). On the first turn activate anger point. You'll likely need to rest as this will do a fairly large amount of damage. On the second turn mega evolve and sleep talk until he wakes up. Trick room support is another thing to consider for this set, as it makes him into a truly terrifying sweeper. Feedback is very welcome.
