What is a good moveset for Altaria?

3 votes

Mine is EV trained in Sp. Attack. It knows:

Air Cutter: STAB, good chance for critical hit.

Dragon Pulse: STAB, good power, high accuracy, used to deal with Dragon types.

Flamethrower: Good power, high accuracy, chance to burn, used to deal with Ice types.

Dragon Dance: Good stat move.

Can anyone do updated moveset for Altaria? 5th Gen one please. Lets do a tank moveset.
I sort of agree this time. Altaria has potential as a tank/wall with it's good defenses.
Altaria (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Cotton Guard
- Toxic
- Roost
- Heal Bell

I would use roost instead of dragon dance because you don't have any moves that are physical so you would not benefit from dragon dance. roost restores health which is always nice.

Dragon dance is useless on yours, it has all special attacks!

Toxic is a good choice for Altaria as it has excellent defense. Dragon Pulse is a MUST for STAB. Flamethrower is excellent too. As DT said, dragon dance is useless. Air cutter is good if he has higher special attack. Fly is waay to predictable.

Swampert, be careful. If you get more points than Pokemaster he might just get angry and make you have zero points.

You should go with toxic for sure. You obviously need dragon pulse. Roost might be good, but I don't like losing flying type. Safegaurd is good if you are fast, if not refresh is better. Air cutter would be great and flamethrower is a must have.

Dragon Dance: This time Altaria will make use of it.

Roost: Heals Altaria.

Outrage: Massive power especially after Dragon Dancing.

Earthquake: An incredible move as always.

A special set is also a possibility as Altaria has Draco Meteor, Flamethrower, and HP Ground. It also has some use as a tricky Sleep counter by just running Sleep Talk, making any phazing attempts useless.

If in Gen.5, Cotton Guard is an awesome new stat move to have.

description
Altaria (F) @ Leftovers

Trait: Natural Cure

EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD

Impish Nature (+Def, -SpA)

  • Dragon Dance
  • Roost
  • Dragon Claw
  • Earthquake

248 HP EVs allow Altaria to switch into Stealth Rock 4 times without fainting, but it also helps a little even if it only does it once. A spinner is recommended though.
Physical bulk is invested in so Altaria has best overall bulk since it's SpD is higher than Def.
Dragon Dance is used to boost Speed and Attack, making it more powerful, and faster. Easily gets away with it having Roost as reliable recovery.
Dragon Claw is STAB and has good neutral coverage, Earthquake complements it nicely by hitting Steel types that resists Dragon Claw.
