Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Solrock?

Mine knows:

Facade: Decent power, nice effect, high accuracy.

Stone Edge: STAB, high power, good chance for critical hit, used to deal with Bug types.

Heal Block: Stops the foe from using healing moves.

Cosmic Power: Used to raise defensive stats.

This is one that could be used on a Sand Abuse team, it can either Stall, or it can be utility:

Solrock @ Light Clay / Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Def / 176 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock / Pain Split
- Light Screen / Cosmic Power
- Reflect / Will-o-Wisp

This thing can actually be useful with Sandstorm's SpDef adds for Rock types. For the first set, we have Dual screens (Light Screen + Reflect) to help your team combined with Stealth Rocks for entry hazards, or Pain Split if your lead has Stealth Rocks. Earthquake is used for its large coverage. Pretty simple set, obviously this one uses Light Clay.

The second, separated by the slashes, is a stall role. Earthquake remains, it's physical, high coverage, blah blah. Pain Split takes the place of Rocks for recovery and adds residual damage. Cosmic Power raises both defenses making this guy hard to take down. While Will-o-Wisp adds more residual damage, hits Skarmory, and lowers the opponent's attack stat. With the combination of Sandstorm's SpDef adds, Cosmic Power, burns, and Pain Split keeping it healthy, this guy can stick around a long time and be a major thorn in an opponent's side. This set prefers Leftovers, as it has no screens.

The EVs are the same for both sets, it increases bulk and staying power. Levitate is its only ability, and one of the best in the game, anything that turns weakness into immunity is awesome. I prefer the second set, I am terrible with timing dual screens, and my Hippowdon uses Stealth Rocks, so I like a good staller on my team.

Wow, um, this is a relatively bad moveset. Solrock is the all-out physical attacker in the Cosmic Rock Duo, so be sure to stack up power and hard-hitting attacks, which is what you've done in the case of Stone Edge.

I'm gonna say it right now: Facade is a gimmick. It's purely novelty and for showing off, and otherwise, it's a pretty terrible attack unless you're inflicted with an ailment. The only time you should have Facade is on a Pokemon that you know will fall victim to Synchronize, or a Pokemon with the Guts ability. Just replace it with Return for a normal-type attack, or Zen Headbutt for effective STAB with flinching.

Stone Edge is awesome! Just keep yourself form using it too much, seeing as it only has an 8 PP cap, once you put PP ups on it.

Heal Block is extremely situational. There are seven recovery attacks in the game: Rest, Synthesis, Roost, Morning Sun, Moonlight, Softboiled, and Milk Drink. Heal Block ONLY blocks these seven attacks. Get rid of it, since you'll barely use it. Replace it with Will-o-Wisp for a status ailment and Attack Crippling.

Finally, you can get rid of Cosmic Power. Why bother with a buff that raises Special Attack (Even though the Special Defense boost can be useful.)? Replace it with Explosion, so you can murder an opponent that's about to KO you.

Solrock is a Physical Sweeper through and through, mostly because it doesn't have the defenses to Wall, or the Special Attack to be a Special Sweeper. Just give it some strong STAB, a practical tactic to use, and Explosion for a suicidal last-resort.

EDIT: Oops, I got confused between Calm Mind and Cosmic Power. Even still, with Solrock's minimal bulk, there's no point in trying to make yourself bulky.

I'll replace Heal Block and Facade. Not a fan of Explosion. I'll replace Cosmic Power for Return when I train my Solrock enough. (Just got it to level 42, got it in a trade from level 40.) I got out Psywave for Heal Block.

You might want to keep cosmic power. There are only a few pokemon who can lurn it. When you are going to train those pokemon you should teach them it. Stone edge and zen headbutt are good for stab moves. Explosian is great, but if you don't like it return is a good physical normal move like narwhals1 said.

Solrock@Light clay
Ability:Levitate
Nature:Impish
Evs:252Hp/130Def/126SpDef
-Light screen
-Reflect
-Willowisp
-Explosion

Kind of like a forretress, set up those dual screens, burn physical sweepers and then explode after he finished his job.

Solrock @ Life Orb

Trait: Levitate

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)

  • Rock Polish
  • Zen Headbutt
  • Stone Edge
  • Earthquake

Rock Polish boosts speed to a nice 478.
Zen Headbutt is good STAB with a nice flinching chance if that would be needed.
Stone Edge is good STAB and nice coverage.
Earthquake compliments the other moves nicely by giving the Edgequake combo and his Steel and Rock types among others.

Solrock @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 160 HP / 144 SAtk / 160 SDef / 44 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Will-O-Wisp
- Calm Mind
- Psyshock
- AncientPower/Sandstorm

With Sand Support

WoW effectively doubles your defense, along with calm mind and sandstorm, makes you a bulky sweeper. Psyshock and Ancient Power are STAB, and Sandstorm can be used over Ancient power in the lower tiers.
