In addition to what Darth said. In HG and SS you also can obtain one of the Kanto starters from Oak and one of the Hoenn starters from Steven. You can also catch Kyogre(HG) or Groudon(SS).

if you trade groudon to HG or kyogre to SS u can get rayquaza!

You get a legend ribbon for each Pokémon and a lot of EXP, because he is the toughtest opponnent in the game
