Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Latias?

1 vote

I was thinking:

Dragon pulse, STAB, has better special attack than attack power,

Psychic, STAB, has better special attack than attack power,

Recover, to heal him,

Toxic, for a good special condition move.

Latias Learnset

I was just going to do this! I would teach it
Dragon Pulse

Mist Ball: STAB, decent power, high accuracy, 50% chance to lower Sp. Attack. Psychic is also good two.

Recover, same as Roost really. No need to waste a TM.

Shadow Ball or Charm: Deal with Ghosts or greatly lower Attack.

Dragon pulse

psychic

recover-still immune, he has levitate, not flying type

energy ball- good, unexpected move

But why, he will heal himself just as much with recover. There is no difference.
EDIT:sorry trachy beat me to say it.
Recover will do about the same as Roost. Waste of a TM.

Edit:ohioscyther said it first. I take a long time to type.
Use a recovery move, you get the idea/
Yeah, but you waste a perfectly good TM if you teach it Roost! Recover is already there, so why not keep it?
I couldn't remember how much health recover gave. I thought it was 1/3, not 1/2.
Yeah, it is 1/2 of health.
Latias is a female; its she, not he.

Latias (F) @ Soul Dew

Role: Tank

Trait: Levitate

EVs: 60 HP / 252 Def / 196 SAtk

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Thunder Wave
  • Psyshock
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Roost

Did anyone else see that movie?

Okay, Thunder Wave makes you not have to worry about speed at all, Sweeping is Latio's thing.

Roost makes for instant healing, Dragon Pulse and Psyshock for Special/Physical Damage while still using your primary attacking stat, AND dual STAB!
I love this Dragon thing!

Well i did... I cannot stand seeing Pokémon suffering ( Latios in the movie) except the ones i KO in video games xD
i bet someone in that movie has a latias with roost, girl on the picture?
Why use roost when  you can have recover?
And yes, I have finally seen that movie.

This is a good way to Catch opponents off guard, Dual screen Latias:
Latias (F) @ Light Clay
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 204 HP / 32 Def / 4 SAtk / 16 SDef / 252 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk), Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dragon Pulse / Mist Ball / Psychic
- Wish / Recover
- Light Screen
- Reflect
This is actually one of the faster and best dual screeners in the game, but it is often over shadowed due to it's offensive prowess.
First move is preference, I prefer Dragon Pulse, simply because it hits more neutral. Mist Ball has the defensive boost, while Psychic has an offensive boost, all benefit from STAB. The second move is also preference, both are recovery, Wish takes a turn, but it can be used to heal an ally, while Recover is instant, and a little more selfish.
Light Clay + Screens are the only way to go, in my opinion. Leftovers is plausible, as is Lum Berry, but Light Clay just adds to the utility of Latias.
EVs and nature aren't difficult, Speed gets the screens up before attacks come flying at it. HP EVs are to make to defense boosts worth using, while defensive EVs are to keep it bulky and annoying. Offensive EVs aren't needed, as Latias has only one attack. Nature is easy, either something to boost Def, it's lower stat, or Speed, to help with screens.

Latias (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Healing Wish
- Psyshock
- Shadow Ball

Supportive pokemon.

Thunder Wave cripples sweepers and let's you start nailing them with Psyshock and Shadow Ball. Healing Wish is for after you know Latias is finished ( Or walled ) so that you can basically revive another pokemon that's taken a lot of damage ( or a sweeper that was crippled by burn or para-hax )

Latias (F) @ Choice Specs

Trait: Levitate

EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

Timid Nature (+Spe, -Atk)

  • Trick
  • Draco Meteor
  • Hidden Power Fire
  • Surf

This Latias can be a nasty surprise on opponents hoping to come in on a defensive support Latias.
Trick tricks away the specs, and this can ruin just flat out pesky walls like Chansey.
Hidden Power Fire is for Steel types like Ferrothorn.
Surf hits Heatran, a Pokemon who walls this set. It also generally helps round out the coverage.

Calm and Modest natures also work well with this.
Psychic: So does Mist Ball. I agree with trachy's explanation.
and 1 more thing: T-Bolt can be replaced with Energy Ball or Screens. They are all Useful.
I'm not gonna consider calm or modest, i have soul dew for that, and If you wish to have Psyshock/mist ball go ahead, it's just a matter of preference.
and im not replacing thunderbolt, i want the coverage against flying types as well, this isn't meant to be some sort of support latias anyway.

Latias Sweeper

Latias
# Lefties/Soul Dew (Varying on whether or not Soul Dew is allowed in your battle)
Nature: Timid (^Speed -Atk)
Ability: Levitate
~ 252 Speed EVs / 252 HP EVs / 6 Sp Atk EVs

  • Dragon Pulse

  • Recover

  • Psyshock / Roar / Hidden Power

  • Calm Mind

This is a pretty nice sweeper set for Latias that I'm looking forward to using soon enough.
Dragon Pulse is definitely there for a pretty high powered STAB attack to deal with almost anything that comes in, except for Steel types, which will be dealt with with HP Fire.
Recover is there for you when Latias' HP gets low, and if you ever get a chance at a free heal.
Psyshock is a wall-breaker attack, where you just won't allow anything to stop you, such as Blissey. You also have the option at Roar, which allows you to blow away a foe you won't be able to Dragon Pulse, also allowing you to gain a chance at revealing a Pokemon your opponent could be hiding. Hidden Power (Fire) is also another good option in case a Steel type comes in to resist your Dragon Pulse attack.
Calm Mind is where this set begins, so this is almost essential. Calm Mind allows your Latias to become a Specially Defensive goddess, with an already high Base Defensive stat, also powering up your potential attacks. When setting up, be sure to be safe and heal up with Recover or else all that setting up would of been in vain!

Item- Latiasite or Soul Dew (because its attacks are lower than Latios)
Nature- Impish
Ability- Levitate (no choice)

Move Set
- Roost (recover directly after attacking if you are attacked)
- Psyshock (high accuracy and decent damage against everything but dark)
- Dragon Pulse (STAB move with high damage and accuracy. Effective against everything but Ice and Fairy
- Calm Mind ( Raise that attack with your speed and ROOST)
