Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for kyogre?

4 votes

Since he has great special attack I was thinking,
Item, leftovers

Water spout, great to start battle, and great with leftovers, Stab, abbility.

hydro pump, Stab, ability,

calm mind, great stat move

ice beam, must have to beat dragon types(like the oh so common rayquaza.

Kyogre Learnset

Why not thunder
Wow, this is the exact same moveset on my Kyogre.

Thunder: 100% accuracy with its ability, plus the chance to break through Protect and Detect (25% chance)

Surf: More reliable than Hydro Pump.

Ice Beam: Deals with Grass types.

Earthquake: Deals with electric types. Slow down please.

Does thunder really do that. If it does then awesome.
Go to serebii, off on the side go to weather effects, then go to Rain Dance.
Sorry, I didn't see weather effects on serabii.
Not going to answer this cuz trachy wrote the same thing I would have put.
What about Water Spout rather than the surf?
Trachy :D exactly the same as my kyogre high five buddy!

Earthquake-electric weakness-don't mark me down because Kyogre has higher special attack, his physical attack is still very good!

Ice beam-cover grass weakness, more importantly, deals with Dragon types.

surf-STAB, good power

aqua ring/water spout/hydro pump/thunder

I think this is a great answer to this question cause I think surf is more useful then hydro pump
instead of earthquake, what about earth power?

Kyogre @ Choice Specs

Trait: Drizzle

EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Water Spout
  • Thunder
  • Ice Beam
  • Surf

Water Spout is way powerful at full HP. Any Kyogre should have Thunder. Ice Beam gives coverage against dragons, Mainly. Works well along with Thunder and and the water type move.
Surf is for when Kyogre's heath fall later on.

Kyogre @ Leftovers
Bold Nature
EVs: 252 Hit Points, 252 Defense, 4 Special Attack

  • Calm Mind
  • Scald
  • Rest
  • Sleep Talk

Well it's obvious I'm forcing physical bulk with his EVs and nature here.
Calm Mind will then make up for the special bulk that he's lacking ( But he has a really nice base there ) and beef up that special attack some more. I chose Scald as my attacking move. The burn chance there is nice enough that I can have a solid water attack ( 120 after STAB, and that's not including rain boost ) that can keep doing damage while I'm spamming rest.
Sleep Talk makes for an annoying " Rest-Talk " combo. Hitting with Scald, or just building up power and bulk while I just kind of sit there sleeping.

The best moveset would still be the one that was named in Generation 3.

Kyogre

Item: Wise Glasses
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 128 Spd, 128 Sp. Def

Moveset:
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Thunder
-Calm Mind

Firstly, Calm Mind to raise Sp. Atk for the other three moves. It also raises Sp. Def for some protection from most Grass and Electric attacks.

Surf is STAB. Considering Sp. Atk is maxed out, the item is wise glasses, and Calm Mind is used, this attack does a hell lot of damage.

Ice Beam is another strong move to get rid of the danger of Grass types. It'll also help against Dragon types, which might know an Electric move.

Thunder is a stronger version of Thunderbolt. And considering Kyogre's ability is Drizzle, Thunder won't miss because of the rain. It's a strong move and is especially useful for other Water types, who may use Drizzle to their advantage.

Well, I would teach my Kyogre...

Blizzard:Powerful and beats dragon and grass types.

Water Spout:150 power and 100 accuracy! Finally with this move you can defeat Groudon! This move is also STAB,and has various type coverage.

Earthquake:Beats the eletric types.

Thunder:Destroyes Flying and water types. Also has higher accuracy due to kyogre's drizzle ability.

Hope this answer was usful.

Not a bad set, but Quick Claw is banned/looked down on in competitive play.
Well, you could also have Life orb, Choise scarf or Choise specs

Kyogre @ Choice Band
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Waterfall loving the flinch and nice damage
- Earthquake nice damage hits electric and all around nice attack
- Avalanche he is probably going to go second and so will most likely get the double damage and covers dragon and grass
- Body Slam hits nice and there is a chance for a nice paralysis

Here is a rare Physical Kyogre! Observe it....
I've used physical Kyogre before. It sucks.
Attack isn't it's best Stat.
Josh it has worked for me it throws people off when they get hit by a physical attack on a switch to blissey it is all surprise strategy.
Also, if he goes last against a Grass-type, he will probably die.
Don't like a moveset, why avalanche when you can have Blizzard?

If you can add images, can you show me how? I'm new.

Kyogre, with the Drizzle Ability.
Drizzle
When entering battle, the user summons Rain.

Ability: Timid
Attack doesn't grow well.
Speed grows greatly.
Item held: Zoom Lens
Characteristic: Likes to Run

Moveset

Hydro Pump: Even though it has 80 acc., it has a great Power with 120 and a Special attacker.

Calm Mind: Use this along with the Rain to boost the Power of water type moves like Hydro Pump. Then, along with Kyogre's great Sp. Attack, use this to deal damage enough to take out a Pokémon with high Sp. Defense.

Earthquake: A Physical attack. Deals greatly to Electric Pokémon.

Ice Beam: Use this on Grass-Type Pokémon along with the Calm mind and Kyogre's Sp. Attack.

Item Held- Wacan Berry or Rindo Berry
Wacan- Weakens the Power of Super-Effective Electric moves.
Rindo- Weakens the Power of Super-Effective Grass moves.

For a weird reason, even if whales are not scary, It can learn Scary Face.
