I want to get Pearl Dimond and Platinum to complete the National dex in SS will it work?

Every Pokemon is needed for the national dex. You will need some gameboy games to get some Pokemon though.

DARN I don't have a gameboy. so I couldn't complete it even if I tried so hard.

Oh well... I do have a friend who has a gameboy will it work if he traded them to me from gameboy to ds to ds?
