PokeBase Battle Subway Meta-PokeBase Q&A

There is too much Modding and Policing on this site!

8 votes

I beg that nobody hide this post. Really, I can see who will hide it and I won't be happy.
I really love this site, but what has become of it now is just disgusting.

People have left this site because of the endless point grubbing and power.
People have left this site because they have had enough of mini Modding.
People have left this site because it isn't a Q+A website...anymore.

There is now more of policing on this site than playing Pokemon.
Have we all forgotten that this is a site for Pokemon and not to get Down Voted?

All there is now is points and policing on who gets a ban and all this useless crap.
I say we become a bit more decent.
With Mods having so much power on this site makes things harder to do. There are too many Mods, Editors and Experts are completely fine.

Now you might be finding it weird that a person who had caused hell load of trouble on this site would be posting this, but yeah, I am.

Mike (Holy Name*) Left.
trachy left for 2 weeks
Mythical Flygon left for 5 months because of it.
I almost left.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with ambition to become an Expert, I have this goal myself. And I also know that cheating to achieve this a no-no.

There is a lot more to say, but I really think all the users seeing this should take into account.

I'll add a bit more when I talk to people in chat....

I also almost left. I agree with this post, that now it's more of a controlled competition website than a Pokemon site.
Because of my difficulty accessing the site, I may be leaving too, but I haven't decided.

+1 TO THIS POST.
I am on thin ice, I am SCARED...
What do you mean...?
Didn't The Black Letter leave because of this as well?
MF left for 5 months??!? I'm taking this into account. +1
Its wrecking this site. Thanks all for your support.
Oh, TOTALLY +1
I mean I am this - Close to getting banned FOREVER
Yeah. I agree +1
I am leaving once I get expert
Mike/Holy Name* left?!
Yeah. Sad story.
Somebody DV'd. That person is clearly not very happy about this :p
Are you serious when did Mike leave? He was on yesterday..... :C
Yes, Mike left yesterday. Check his account. I asked him why and he told me why.
I have thought of the same as you Flare, so I agree with you.
I agree with this 1000%
I hate things like this. Sorry, but...
http://i41.tinypic.com/2ebx2zp.jpg
Come on, do your stuff and let the mods do their stuff. =='
Frosty Froslass, I doubt you are going to be banned anytime soon unless you suddenly start flipping out. The worst you have done is be annoying sometimes, and we just kick if that gets out of control. So stop worrying that you're going to be banned.
I agree flare, I commented on someone else's post to make a joke, and then ___(someone)___  hided my comment. I didn't see how it could be offensive to anyone in anyway. This site should be more free for people to just say how they feel. Not all this junk about down voting. Thanks for posting this Flare. :)
I believe it was hidden not because it would be deemed offensive but that it was on an ancient question. Forums (and this Q2A system is somewhat like a forum) do not like necroposting. This actually isn't an issue that has been addressed by Pokemaster yet. We don't allow answering on old and answered questions unless you can add new info, but commenting doesn't have any of the point grubbing about it. I'll speak with Pokemaster on the subject.

First in answer to your points:

People have left this site because it isn't a Q+A website...anymore.

In what way?

With Mods having so much power on this site makes things harder to do. There are too many mods Editors and Experts are completely fine.

Half the mods are inactive. And Expert is only a title.

And using the IP address scanning, they can actually fry a persons computer.

No you can't, that's complete nonsense.

To answer the main question, the answer is to stop having so much drama in the first place. It's a vicious spiral... someone gets banned (for a good reason), someone else gets mad about it, they cause arguments with others, one of them gets banned, now everyone is making drama all the freaking time so the mods have to step in. People make posts like this one and the drama increases even more :/

Just chill the heck out, everyone.

Thank you.
This...this right here..is what people need to read. It's their own fault for being so paranoid and full of drama.
You want a community, people? Fine. We have a nice community right here. All one big family. And yet, and yet, you insist on causing arguments. If that is why you're on here, to cause disruption, for any reason, get a life. We-The Pokebase as a whole- don't need that. If that's not why you're on here, then why are you being like that?
Btw it the Internet and I highly doubt that you people are adults so how about people on here act like adults and stop causing drama and negative comments.

I agree with PM, how is this not a Q+A site? I use this site over every other one just for the Q+A. I love it.
Completely agree with you, Poke'slash.

Thought you'd like to see this from a Moderator's point of view! I'm not going to say that I completely agree or disagree with you, but before you jump to a few conclusions as you have, I'd like you to have better insight on the situation.

People have left this site because of a ban they got...when they
didn't deserve it.

I can tell you personally that banning is an absolute last resort rarely used...I can't speak for the rest of the mods, but a user is never banned for a first time instance, even in some cases like having duplicate accounts. We instantly ban duplicate accounts, but the original person is usually left with a warning. If a person is banned on the site, it's a result of multiple issues popping up on the site. If we didn't do anything about it, then you just have the problem of everyone breaking the rules, and teetering to the other extreme. Especially when you look at the fact that this hasn't just been hidden. Granted, users here are much faster at kicking, but even then, that comes after several warnings to the person, along with an explanation of why (note, like having charges read off by police in fairness) and a kick is only temporary. Even a ban can easily be reversed.

Remember how abusive Will was when he....? Oh wait, what has he done?

Remember when Mew gave 3 warnings to someone for using caps lock, and then he just kicked them? What a jerk...

Remember Trachy managing through the ban report, shutting down the mini modding (the thing you later criticize) and then gave warnings and reasoning to people before taking an appropriate action formed by Pokemaster and not him? How heartless of him...

Remember when I had Sammich hero tell me to STFU and instead of banning him, I asked him to explain why he had a problem with me? Sorry I was so unfair.

I don't say this out of arrogance, but I'd say that the mods here are much more willing to listen to you than on just about any most other locations around. Go on Pokemon Online and bring your problem to a mod. If you don't kiss up to them, sucks for you then...If you're lucky, you won't get banned just for imposing on them by as much as talking to them.

People have left this site because of the endless point grubbing and
power.

While I do agree with this, I fail to see how this can be linked to the mods and leadership on the site. This is more a criticism of the regular users, so I fail to see how this plays in.

People have left this site because they have had enough of mini
Modding.

Again, I agree, but first, this isn't a fault of the leaders of the site (I understand that this is a criticism of the site as a whole, but I'm here to defend a group of people)

People have left this site because it isn't a Q+A website...anymore.

says who? People still ask and answer questions almost daily. It's slower because there are already hundreds of questions in the database, keyword, DATABASE. The more content you have, the more likely it is that someone will have already asked something you want to know. Basic probability right there. People have been competing for points since the site started. I doubt it will ever stop. If you really have such a big deal with it, focus your energy elsewhere.

All there is now is points and policing on who gets a ban and all this
useless crap. I say we become a bit more decent. With Mods having so
much power on this site makes things harder to do. There are too many
mods Editors and Experts are completely fine.

Again I say that the mods will go out of their way to be understanding, and we don't throw out bans left and right, so don't even try to give me that crap. As said before, kicks, you know, those ten minute things? Yeah, AFTER several warnings, but I don't think it's fair to say we're being tyrannical here. If that were the case, I would've hidden this post and told you to shut the hell up and quiet you down instead of trying to respond to it. Do I sound really harsh and stubborn? Most likely. That tends to happen when posts about how much of a dictator you are pop up. Editors aren't able to ban, so I have no idea where you're getting their criticisms from. Everyone can hide and edit posts, but that's to sharpen the quality of the content coming in on the main sites. There are 6 mods, 2 of which aren't currently active. Too many experts? Perhaps, and I actually see where you're going, but realize that they can't do as much as a moderator, so that's a cheap straw man argument to attack them as well because of how you feel (incorrectly, btw) towards mods.

Mike (Holy Name*) Left. trachy left for 2 weeks Mythical Flygon left
for 5 months because of it. I almost left.

You realize that Mike has left several times. He's not the only one, that tends to happen when you're around people so long. It' s a website oriented at several age groups. Take some time off to sharpen the saw if you can't put up with it. I agree that there's plenty of bullcrap here, but part of that is people overexerting themselves here.

But I really don't know if you have realised, but a Mod can view IP.

Had NO idea. Not at all .

A hacker can easily hack into a Mods account. And using the IP address
scanning, they can actually fry a persons computer. IP address has
gone too far. I say we remove this feature from mods.

I think you underestimate how easy it is to search these people out. Even if you strip that of the mods (which we use to search out those duplicate accounts and point grubbers you had a problem with before) there's nothing stopping Pokemaster from searching this stuff out. I have no idea what the hell you're talking about to "fry" a person's computer, but even if something happened, pokemaster still supersedes everything and could stop that in an instant. The whole reason he gave mods the ability to view IP (which you can easily find on someone's computer without the mod account btw) was because he can't (and doesn't want to) always be here. You want to remove the feature to ban IPs from mods, and you can restore things to how the site initially was, where all you can do if there's a person spamming or complaining on the chat is to sit there and hope Pokemaster happens to pop up. We could report things, but you can see how much crap the ban report causes (hence my suggestion). Again, a misunderstanding of technology isn't any reason to do that to moderators.

You want my take on it, I agree that there are too many people backseat modding. I don't think it's fair to try and pin this on people trying to reduce the problem, which to be honest is a big spit in the face to everyone trying. I think that there are too many backseat leaders rather than too much policing. If you can't ban people or kick them, then don't worry about telling people to stop. Arguing on the chat about people won't do anything, even if they insult you. All that does is just cause more bullcrap. Everyone is too quick to jump in and try and fight when it doesn't do anything. That's where I think most problems here come in from. Rules don't exist just for the sake of having rules...They exist to address a common problem people saw. If that problem is there, then it's appropriate to deal with it, regardless of whether the rule explicitly says to or not.

A few notes:

  • You don't get banned if you don't continually cause problems. Don't make duplicate accounts, don't use caps locks a lot on the chat, and just go along if a moderator asks you do to something.
  • I don't give a damn how much pride you have. It's not defending a friend to fight with someone that insulted them. It's just fighting. It's more understandable in a real fight situation to physically protect someone, but this is an internet website...that's not happening.
  • The most important of all is to Calm the balls down. Not directed at you flare, but most of the site honestly.

...man.....that was deep, and true. ...uh, okay now i know i sound like a total newb, but i'm not sure what modds are. But I get the idea. Thanks again, guys. More people should read this. Not just 276 people. We can help this site become a better place.
agh stop bringing back old things we know you're a noob.
oh hey. did you find that post offensive? just wondering. sorry if it was. The one about "wow that was like-"....ect.
nope, it's just annoying when people comment on old posts.
cooleo.   ...in that case... oh never mind, i'm just off to comment on some old- what? did I say old, I meant none.   :)

Okay, I know this will receive hate but I'm only giving my opinion; thus this is not down-vote material. I have given an overview report of Flare's post. Most of it is pretty good. I'm simply adding my two cents to the mix, so please don't down-vote me because you're against Flare or his post. I agree with his post, I see no bad logic in it.

Overview

People have left this site because of a ban they got...when they didn't deserve it.

What cases support your evidence in this?

People have left this site because of the endless point grubbing and power.

I strongly agree with this, it's getting out of control. Some users have to know they aren't getting power or points by cheating. I did it once and am facing the consequences. Eventually someone will find out, you will be caught and you'll lose all the points. Power is a whole other subject. Power is a strive for being above others and gain respect. They do this by point grubbing.

People have left this site because they have had enough of mini Modding.

The people who Mini-Mod a lot is surprising. We have Challade, who told people to stop spamming and then spammed herself. We have other users whose names I will not take for Drama-Base reasons. It's not cool and won't gain you respect, guys. Stop. I don't know if I've ever done it before but I'm sorry if I have.

People have left this site because it isn't a Q+A website...anymore.

I agree. It's become and all-out free-for-all competition. People are doing whatever they can to have the most points. They'll answer a question with a satisfactory answer. They'll accuse the others of being wrong. They'll down-vote the other people. To most people, including me, the chat has become a more important place to be then the actual site. And a lot of people cause trouble there.

There is now more of policing on this site than playing Pokemon.
Have we all forgotten that this is a site for Pokemon and not to get Down Voted?

I totally agree with this sentence. This sentence is the base of this report and what ties it all together. It should be about helping people better their skills in Pokemon, not about crap like getting Up-Votes and trying not to earn down-votes! It's a Pokemon site people! Stop worrying about points on a Pokemon site and get a life.

All there is now is points and policing on who gets a ban and all this useless crap.

Yes, it's become the full Dramabase. If you have 6,000 points, Expert. 1000 Meta points, retagging. All this. Who honestly cares, and why? Why?! It's useless to think about these things. Just chat, ask and answer. Don't be in it for the points; what happened to helping people?

With Mods having so much power on this site makes things harder to do. There are too many mods Editors and Experts are completely fine.

Again, full on agreement. A lot of people don't like moderators on chat because often mods have said things such as "If you start that topic I will be so annoyed" and "I'll kick you if you do that" to minor and petty things such as writing half of your message in all caps, such as when you are excited. They can kick you with the touch of a button.

Now you might be finding it weird that a person who had caused hell load of trouble on this site would be posting this, but yeah I am.

Really, this is not a thing to say. You have clearly become a better person and user both on chat and for the PokeBase community. You have full right to report this.

But I really don't know if you have realised, but a Mod can view IP. A hacker can easily hack into a Mods account. And using the IP address scanning, they can actually fry a persons computer. IP address has gone too far. I say we remove this feature from mods.

This can't really be an option, as much as your point is good. Moderators need the IP checking feature so they can sniff out a duplicate account, keeping the site under control. We need this feature as Pokemaster can't always be there to check the IPs. All of the active users are more active then him, for crying out loud.

Some Additional Notes

  • Some users are on the verge of getting banned for something they did a long time ago. I don't know what Frosty Froslass has done, but everyone is acting like if she does one more wrong thing she will be forced to have a ban and leave the site. This is unfair, as I know for a fact some users have honestly changed. If "Hyper Flares" does one more bad thing he's totally going to be banned.
  • Some users are being accused of things left and right. Before I was being accused of being racist on chat. Flare was also accused of being spam up-voted, actually I think he was. He said he may leave the site because of all the accusations against him. It's not fair. Some users should actually be accused, such as Gligurr who actually made a duplicate account.
  • Swearing has become a huge issue with a lot of people. It's just swearing, big deal. Pokemaster has said many, many times that this site is not directed towards kids, thus swearing should not be a big deal. So the users who are making a big deal out of (you know who you are) stop. If swearing is such a big issue with you, don't visit the site.
  • The question standard is becoming ridiculous. Things any brain dead dog can look up are being asked on PokeBase because some people are too lazy to look it up for themselves. Many questions are becoming repeats. You can literally answer a question in five seconds nowadays. I have seen major point increases in the newer users and this is because they can answer a question so easily that it's stupid.
answered Dec 31, 2012 by Ayan
6000 points matters to me. I guess I don't have a life :/. An what the hell? I did not make a duplicate account! Who the hell do you think you are accusing me of a duplicate? See, these are the things that get me pissed off and make me want to leave. People who come here to this community are straight up assholes.
Yeah, but you didn't cheat to get them. And Ninja told me you made a dupe...
._. So why are you here? ._.
That I don't know, Scizor.
VV, I really don't know how much I agree with you. Thank you.
I've tried to tell people, that it's lazy to ask these things...
Gligurr, see this is exactly where the drama comes from. VV says something stupid then you rant about it, causing MORE drama. And then in the same comment you accuse others of making drama.

I'm not saying you're particularly in the wrong or anything, because VV is wrong for throwing accusations around. But if VV said something wrong just tell him that he was wrong and move on. Posting it the way you did just makes things worse.

Even me posting this is making more out of it than there should be.

My turn.

People have left this site because of the endless point grubbing and power.

Not really. People leave because of the drama from it. If users would just accept the fact that Mods and Editors are doing their jobs, it could be better. As for point grubbing, points do not matter! If people really do want them, a little competition never hurt, just don't pull it too far. To quote DT from long ago, "POINTS DO NOT F***ING MATTER". All in all, everyone needs to quit obsessing over the little things, and let the ranks do their jobs.

People have left this site because they have had enough of mini Modding.

Examples? Trachy left over drama. Mike left over an argument.

A prime example to use here is JirachCelebiMew. He keeps the chat in order, plus he has his little deal with trachy. But he has much experience on the site, and people should listen to him.

People have left this site because it isn't a Q+A website...anymore.

I never knew! i guess questions aren't asked daily, and Mew doesn't answer 3/4 of a days questions!

There is now more of policing on this site than playing Pokemon.
Have we all forgotten that this is a site for Pokemon and not to get Down Voted?

I am going to restate this.

There is now more drama on the site than Pokemon. Have we all forgotten this is a site to get help from the community and make friends?

That is better. Really people need to chill out, and the people causing drama need to grow up. Btw, the site isn't at all about not getting downvoted. That is the biggest amount of crap ever.

All there is now is points and policing on who gets a ban and all this useless crap.

By the ones who cause drama :P. Tbh, every user needs to not comment on the ban report. Leave it to the friendly moderators to decide. Like DT said, users only get banned for repeated offenses.

My opinions were hell of a lot shorter than others, but I am incredibly tired.

So, one sentence to sum it up.

Let the ranks do their jobs, don't cause drama, and chill the balls out.

Whoever says otherwise to what DT / PM said is a moron, they need to grow a pair.

answered Dec 31, 2012 by Ninja
I agree with Ninja fully.
maybe, we could drop the "balls" part.... there are a few girls on here, I think. But still I agree.
