Well, I've been noticing alot of new users will arive, and stay for about a day, and then take off.

And I think i've found out why...

Alot of new users, will ask questions like This

And they get mercilessly downvoted, when it was a question, that they really didn't know the answer to, and they came to us for the answer, now.. the average experiences user on this site, would think, " Hey, thats a pretty dumb question.. " and vote it down.

And I think its been this very kind of thing, that has been driving away new users from the site.

My suggestion, is maybe to take off downvoting towards users with less than... maybe 200 points's questions.

A fair, answer the question would be much better suited, or if its a illegal question just a " Hey, thats an illegal question," And let them get the hang of things.

Maybe just a rules page for new users? And make sure that they read the whole thing, and have them remember to use the search bar.
Just because you give them a rule page to read doesn't mean they're going to read it. If that were the case, we'd have no problems.
Yeah, that was going through my mind when I was writing that. We have no way to tell if they read it or not..

Well no one should have down voted that particular question. It's a legitimate question to ask, even though you can't trade back to earlier games. (Remember, you could do this in Gen II, with restrictions.)

We should go easier on the newbies where possible but if they don't read the rules and ask a question about their awesome Kadabra with Hyper Beam then it's their own fault really.
