Roleplaying in the Chat Room

Question

Hi

Today i came in to the Chat Room and noticed that it changed. I mean before it was Battles Trades pokemon Tips and hibts but now its completely changed. I mean people go and play something like *Cake to ×××××. The chat room isnt the same.

Now its like a play room.
I think its very much Role-Playing. And i thought there was a Roleplay room in Showdown.

So i will shorten it to 1 point

Yeah the chat room has somehow unfortunately moved from genuine discussions about the game to a section specifically for people who seem to treat this like a social networking site. And what really sucks is that really there isn't much we can do about them besides kick them or warn them, neither of which will work. They'll come back and keep doing it or they will ignore what we say.
And they refuse to go to Showdown. Why this is I don't know, but for some reason they seem obsessed with the DB chat room.
PM did say that they can't role play unless they're on Showdown, but it doesn't seem to matter to them who it is saying that they can't role play there.
It's funny though, because the same people who role play are the same group of people who repeatedly vote each other despite being warned not to countless times. They simply don't listen. I feel like banning them is harsh, but then again, our generosity is the reason we have these problems in the first place.

I give one warning about RP. If they continue, it's a kick. After that, it's a temporary ban.

You spray it with insecticide (the ban on RP), it works for a little
They develop an immunity to it, or a way to counter it (People ignoring the rule, thinking it's okay (Sassy Mawile once said RP is fine as long as it isn't out of hand which is true but it always gets out of hand qq), people doing it while mods/editors are off).
It breeds again :D!

Anyway I find it's the same couple people doing it :I.
I know why some of them refuse to go to showdown however. They think Showdown is a place for people who aren't 'real' pokemon trainers etc. etc.
Warnings almost never work imo. It has some weight if a Mod/Editor is on, but when the person who issues the warning isn't a mod, it gets ignored. I gave up on telling no RP :P

If it's the same few people, then the solution seems simple to me.  Be sure to report stuff in the meta so that even if moderators/editors aren't there, the issue can be handled.

Exactly, it's an easy answer: if part of your leg is infected, cut off the whole leg, just to be safe.
If it's just a few people, crack down on them. Since they'll likely persist with it after warnings and kicks, like Fizz said they're doing, we'll just ban them and remove the issue. Boom, no more problem!

Oh and the fact that the people who start the RP seem to often be the more 'popular' ones among the registered users.

It doesn't work any differently. Simply ask them to stop, then refer to the RP chat room. If that doesn't work, then report them.

If everyone on chat is fine with the roleplaying I guess its fine altogether.
However, if people continue to roleplay despite people telling them not to, then punish them in anyway you wish :D

Im almost never in the chat room. Mainly because of the first time i was there.

This is a helpful suggestion! But I'm not sure if the head admin will do it. First, I don't think he has the time. Second, he probably may not do it because this site is a database for pokemon, and not just a chat room zone. That's what he'd probably say to the 'role playing'. But it's possible he'll say yes. I'm just saying that there's no guarantees!
