The fourth president of Nintendo passed away yesterday. He has unfortunately died from a tumor located in his bile duct, a problem which we've been aware of since last year.

Mr. Iwata assisted in founding Creatures Inc. the studio that developed the Pokemon Rangers series and the PokePark series. He also helped with the development of Pokemon Gold and Silver as well as Pokemon Stadium.

It could very easily be argued that Nintendo is still around today thanks in a large part due to the decisions of Mr. Iwata. It is with him that we saw the change from the Game Boy line of products to the DS line of products, as well as the shift to the highly successful Wii console. As a game developer himself (actually a rather rare occurrence in gaming CEOs) he offered a level of programming knowledge that was of great benefit to the company.

I'll end this with a tweet from Pokemon composer Junichi Masuda: https://twitter.com/Junichi_Masuda/status/620396563240628225

Translation: Satoru Iwata, president of Nintendo has passed away. He understood Pokemon well, and was an amazing leader. When I saw him the other day he looked healthy. From the bottom of my heart, may you rest in peace.

RIP

was wondering if this would make a meta post.. guess i was right.
He will be missed...
Here's what Serebii has to say:

"It is with a heavy heart that today we learned that Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, unfortunately passed away on July 11th. The man's legacy live through the Pokémon series as he was responsible for more than just supporting Pokémon, but he helped compress Gold & Silver to allow for the Kanto region to be included and he ported & recoded the battle engine over to Pokémon Stadium himself within a week. He will be sorely missed."

There goes the man that made Gold and Silver and, consequently, Crystal, HeartGold and SoulSilver such amazing games. RIP Satoru Iwata   ;~;
This man was amazing. My favourite quote was taken by PM do instead I'll share this story which shows how kind he is, even though he's a multi millionaire ceo and could afford to be prideful and boastful. So here it is: the 3ds had just come out, the price was too high and it and Nintendo were failing and losing money. Any normal Ceo would lay off employees to save money, but this man instead cut his OWN pay to save money. Which just goes to show; ...something
RIP Satoru Iwata

Had very limited internet all weekend and woke up to this news this morning :'(

I added a post to the front page earlier (although I hadn't seen your excellent post here trachy, I could've used that instead). Here's one of my favourite quotes:

On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer.

RIP Iwata.
