Pokémon Rate My Team

Even though this is a Gen 6 team, there aren't any Gen 6 Pokemon in it. I wanted to use a few 'mons that I never really used before, i.e. Virizion, Crobat and Rotom-H, and also test out a Mega-evolution, which has made so many NU 'mons viable in the higher tiers.

This team doesn't have a theme; it's just balanced, that's all. I also really want to use this team in-game as well, but sadly Wish Chansey is hard to come upon, and Virizion is still stuck in Gen V.

This team is also more offensive than what I usually make, since I tend to stall too much with my teams generally, and it's a 3/3 offence/support split team.

Synergy

I had to do a few small, barely noticeable things to the chart because it's out of date due to the addition of the Fairy type.

Mawile @ Mawilelite
Ability: Intimidate > Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Sp. Def
Nature: Adamant
- Substitute
- Play Rough
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance

Hmm Huge Power is unstoppable... if I can set up a Substitute and a Swords Dance. Mawile has to find a chance to set up, but when she does, she's ready to go.

I forfeited Iron Head on Mawile's moveset, considering that Sucker Punch & Play Rough have neutral coverage already, Iron Head was not needed. Substitute is also a better choice so I can set it up when something switches out. One Swords Dance Sucker Punch from Mawile will OHKO a Talonflame trying to use Flare Blitz on it. Sucker Punch coming from a Huge Power Mawile will do about 68-75% health anyway, so if Talonflame isn't at full health, I probably don't even need to use Swords Dance. The main thing Mawile can't handle is Landorus-T with Intimidate.

Rotom-H @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp. Atk
Nature: Bold
- Will-O-Wisp
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Rest

Defensive ChestoRest Rotom-H is to deal with one thing and one thing only: Talonflame. It also works well against Mega-Pinsir & Scizor, being resistant to both their stabs. Rotom forms (Wash & Heat, at least) are now seeing defensive sets as opposed to specially defensive with Talonflame on the scene, since it's got a STAB physical priority and is immune to burn.

The fact that I have Virizion & Mawile on the team is enough to warrant bulky defences on Rotom-H for some much needed support. Rotom-H is also an excellent Will-O-Wisp user, considering that Magic Bounce Espeon is still prevalent, meaning at least Rotom-H won't burn itself. Also, ChestoRest works surprisingly well on Rotom-H, especially with Chansey around since she can Heal Bell any use of Rest after the Chesto Berry is gone.

Zoroark @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Illusion
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Nature: Timid
- Dark Pulse
- Extrasensory
- Flamethrower
- Focus Blast

Zoroark used to be Hydreigon, until I realised I didn't really need a Pokemon with a double fairy weakness. Hydreigon is at 1 base speed less than Genesect, so if the latter was Timid it would out speed Hydreigon, therefore Zoroark is my choice of scout in order to fully out speed any opposing Gensect scouts and OHKO it with Flamethrower. I also usually send him out as Chansey, just because she seems harmless.

The rest of the moves are self-explanatory; STAB & coverage. I also needed a Psychic counter because of Crobat & Virizion, and Sucker Punch is not always fully reliable on Mawile since she's so slow.

Crobat @ Black Sludge
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 180 HP, 76 Atk, 116 Def, 136 Speed
Nature: Jolly
- Brave Bird
- Roost
- Whirlwind
- Defog

Crobat is basically my hazard ridder and fighting sponge; Mawile is in no status to take fighting hits, even with Intimidate and its new Fairy typing.

I considered Toxic over Whirlwind, but I couldn't forfeit a hazing move in light of new Swords Dancers like Aegislash, Mega-Scizor and Mega-Pinsir. I've also seen the odd Suicune who think that Crobat won't do anything to them, so it's been useful for that too. I also chose Defog > Rapid Spin because of Aegislash's prevalence, and while Hitmontop & Blastoise can use Foresight, they really have better things to do than to have that useless move. Crobat's also fast, so at least it can get Defog out before it gets KO'd by something.

Virizion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 104 Atk, 152 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed
Nature: Hasty
- Work Up
- Giga Drain
- Close Combat
- HP Rock

As of now, I still can't decide if I want a solely physical set for Virizon or this mixed set. I'm testing out this mixed set right now, and it's actually fine for Charizard Y, since HP Rock will OHKO it, and Virizion is faster at base speed 108. I also like HP Rock better than Stone Edge in that sense since it's 100% accurate. I've had Stone Edge miss so many times, and Rock Slide isn't an option for Virizion. As for Talonflame, if I can predict a switch in, HP Rock will OHKO that as well. The main thing I can't OHKO with HP Rock is Volcarona, even after one Work Up.

Interestingly I've seen less of Volcarona recently, probably because everyone's hyped up on Talonflame and don't need another double rock weakness.

Virizion also has the benefit of being not very expected in OU, in addition to its grass typing's new battle properties, meaning Smeargle cannot use Spore on it.

Er, wait.

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def, 4 Sp. Def
Nature: Bold
- Protect
- Heal Bell
- Wish
- Stealth Rock

For a while, Chansey used to be Vaporeon, just to try out something different. Vaporeon did have the benefit of not caring too much about Knock off, but I can usually go for Protect on Chansey to test the waters, or switch out to Crobat or Mawile when I know a Knock off is coming, like from Conkeldurr or Mandibuzz. Vaporeon was also not a good answer to Rotom-W, considering that Volt Switch usually did ~50% health and Vaporeon could still be burned. Chansey provides some essential walling, sponging and healing support, along with being a status absorber. If only Wish was easier to obtain in-game. :/

Also, I could care less about Taunt most of the time; I can just switch out to something else.

Main threats

  • Assault Vest Conkeldurr; Zoroark usually cannot clean up with Extrasensory, which is really annoying. The only way to get rid of it is via Crobat or Mawile (the latter is still faster than Conkeldurr).
  • Assault Vest Metagross; Zoroark cannot OHKO with Dark Pulse, and it usually carries Hammer Arm, or at the very least Meteor Mash.
