PokeBase Meta Battle Subway - RMT

need help finishing up my team

0 votes

I hope this is the right place for this kinda question

I got pokemon x, i haven't played pokemon since gen II. I bought a 3ds specifically for this game. I know a little about team building like STAB moves and such, i'm just getting the hang of EVs, I know what they are i just dont know how to invest them into my pokemon.

Rhyperior
Trait: Solid Rock
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

-Stone Edge
-Rock Polish
-Earthquake
-Megahorn

I picked rhyperior because i always liked Rhydon but i never used him because of all its weaknesses but with its next evolution i assumed it'll last a little longer. I was looking up movesets for hime online and i saw this rock polish moveset and i liked the idea. Because he's so slow, usually he'll get knocked out so fast. I have't actually tried it out yet because i dont wanna go through all that training if someone out there has experience with this and knows its crap or maybe its good, i dont know. I was also thinking of Mega Aggron too

Malamar

Ability: Contrary
Nature: Adamant (+Att, - Sp. Att)
EV's: 252 Att/128 HP/128 Def
Moves:
- Topsy-turvy
- Swagger
- Psycho Cut
- Superpower

I originally had Alakazam here because its huge special attack base but it was really weak in defense and would get crushed by any ghost. So i found this guy and looked more into it and it seemed really badass and very strong with its ability contrary

Machamp
Trait: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Payback
- DynamicPunch
- Stone Edge
- ?????

I picked Machamp because he's one of my favorites and with his No guard ability, accuracy is no issue. I was thinking about putting a strong attack with low accuracy just for the hell of it, like fire blast or something like that, he'll hit it every time

Hydreigon
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Hyper Voice
- Flamethrower

I picked this one because i just wanted a all around bulk pokemon. I found these pseudo-legionaries and thought this guy was the most interesting one. I've use dragonite, tyranituar and slamace before so i wanted to try somehting new and he has levitate ability without needing to fly so it wont get crushed by ice just by fairy type

Drapion
Trait: Sniper
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Def / 252 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
-Cross Poison
-Ice Fang
-Night Slash
-Venoshock

Poison types are my favorite. I originally had Muk here but i wanted more coverage and remembered this dark/poison type. Now its only weak against ground types. With its sniper ability almost all hits should be critical

This is where i got stuck. I couldn't figure out who would be the last edition. I have a hard time with type coverage and i know most of this guys would get hit hard by and earthquake. I i guess i need ground coverage? Maybe a water type or ice so it can handle dragons or grass type to take out the water and ground. So this is my problem.

Any help would be great, even switching out pokemon, i would though like to keep drapion and machamp because it took forever to breed their abilities

Since you're new, you should probably be sticking to the 252/252 EVs. People usually add defenses in case they want to survive specific attacks (like putting 180hp/180def I think on a Choice Specs Gardevoir so that it'll survive Brave Bird from Talonflame and OHKO back with Thunderbolt) or some speed EV's to edge out mirror matches (like 8 speed EV Rotoms) but you will know what you need through normal play.

Next, you will need to list your intended items for each member, since that can change recommendations for it.

Note: I'm assuming Spd in your list means speed. Speed is usually abbreviated "Spe" since "SpD" is special defense. Also I'm assuming this is for singles/Smogon OU, and not VGC.

Rhyperior - I'm not a big fan of trying to increase its speed, but if you really must run Rock Polish set, it's gonna be quite unexpected. You should run Jolly to maximize the things you are going to outspeed. I'd recommend putting a bulky Rock Polish set on something like Metagross instead, as its speed is already pretty decent, and keeping Rhyperior as a defensive wall with either Stealth Rock, or as a Choice Band user with your listed moveset.

Malamar - Topsy-Swagger combo doesn't sound so great, which can be achieved separately by Charm and Confuse Ray. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Malamar in singles, but if you must run it, I would do end game sweeper style Choice Scarf + Superpower instead, where the goal of the rest of your team is to eliminate all ghosts so that Malamar can sweep with fast Superpower.
BTW, give Alakazam another chance. Frail doesn't mean bad, and Focus Sash item + Magic Guard ability means it always goes down in 2 hits. Zam is good for revenge KOs or endgame sweeping when you've eliminated everything with priority, or faster than Zam.

Machamp - Assault Vest or Choice Band are ideal items and you will run 4 attacking moves on it. Try this set instead:
* Knock Off (way better than Payback, but you will need to breed again)
* Dynamic Punch
* Stone Edge
* pick one of Bullet Punch, Thunder Punch, Ice Punch (all of these need some breeding)

Hydreigon - Swap Hyper Voice with Flash Cannon, gives you more coverage and is great for hitting Fairy switch-ins. I presume you will be using Choice Specs or Choice Scarf or Expert Belt.

Drapion - Sniper doesn't boost critical hit chance, it increases the damage done by critical hits. Without Focus Energy, I would not recommend Sniper. Since you're already on the defensive thing with Drapion, you might as well make it a toxic staller with Battle Armor ability instead. Replace Venoshock with Toxic and one of the other moves with Protect. Item is Leftovers.

LAST POKEMON SUGGESTIONS
1. High Special Defense and team support - Sylveon, Florges, Blissey
2. Greninja w/ Protean ability - Has exactly what you described in what you need to get rid of Ground type and Dragons. Moveset is
* Ice Beam
* Grass Knot
* Surf (or Hydro Pump)
* pick one of Dark Pulse, Extrasensory, Shadow Sneak

P.S. Have you tried joining an online battle simulator like Pokemon Showdown, PBB or Pokemon Online? This allows you to test your team before you take time to do the breeding in your game.

Thats a great idea! I dont know why i didn't go to the showdown before, it saves so much time! So was on there all day yesterday and i made a few changes,

Drapion (M) @ Razor Claw
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 156 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Spe
Admant Nature
- Night Slash (STAB high chance of critical)
- Cross poison (STAB high critical and chance to poison)
- Toxic Spikes
- Ice Fang (handles those ground types)

Malamar(M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Contary
EVs: 224 HP / 252 Def / 32 Spe
impish Nature
- Swagger (confues and raise atk)
- Foul Play (hits them harder since atk raised)
- Superpower (can sweep with this, raises atk and def)
- Topsy-Turvy (great for baton passers and any one boosting stats)

Machamp (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 200 HP / 252 SAtk / 56 Spd
Admantt Nature
- Dynamic Punch (hits 100% and confuses)
- Stone Edge (coverage)
- Ice Punch (hits dragons hard)
- Knock Off (great against psychics)

Aggron-mega (F) @ Aggronite
Ability: Filter
EVs: 240 HP / 80 Def / 188 Spd
Sassy Nature
- Earthquake (of course)
- Curse (boosting up his stats)
- Heavy Slam (it gains more weight in mega form)
- Stealth Rock (can easily set up without getting killed)

Carbink @ Light Clay
Ability: Clear body
EVs: 252 HP / 196 Def / 60 Spd
Calm Nature
- Toxic (hit those big guys)
- Reflect (stat boost for team)
- Light Screen (stat boost for team)
- Draining Kiss (deal damage and recover health)

Galvantula (M) @ Foucus Band
Ability: Compound eyes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Energy Ball (coverage)
- Thunder (STAB compound eyes brings it up to a 90% accuracy)
- Sticky Web (slow everyone down)
- Bug Buzz (STAB)

Drapion actually proved to be pretty useful, especially taking out the toxic spikes and putting some in. It almost always got a critical hit, it took down a couple of people. Most of the time the only way it got taken down was by status effects

Malamar is just a beast! i put him in there either late or middle game to sweep with superpower or i through him in there when i see they're boosting a lot of stats. I tried running the physical sweeper with choice band but it didn't really do as well. And with swagger/topsy-turvy/foul play, I can just mess with them all day. But i think i need a protect or substitute if i want him to last longer.

Machamp just owns. I throw him in there and he can take hits and dish them out even more so when the dual screens are up. I just mess with everyone with the dynamic punch, even if they're resistant to it, they still get confused. They usually switch out when i hit them with it

Now i was having trouble with Mega-Aggron. I dont know how to spread his EVs to give him the most potential as a wall because he seems to die very easily. I replaced him with rhyperior because Mega Aggron looses the rock type and just becomes steel so it helps with the resistances but its still not doing the job

Carbink is a life saver. It can set up the dual screens before it dies because of its defenses. I had it have stealth rock but gave that to Aggron because Carbink couldn't do all three, so i through in toxic and i have draining kiss to kinda keep it alive. But it makes a huge difference. Aggron can survive a STAB high jump kick or a STAB over heat.

Now this last one i've been switching around because i couldn't find the perfect fit. I noticed i had nothing against water types so i was going back and forth with grass or electric. for grass i tried Gogoat and sawsbuck, they were too weak. for the electric i tried elektross, i liked the levitate ability but it was too slow. I've use Galvantuala in my game and it worked pretty well. I'm still open for suggestions. I think i need someone to heal my group. Maybe a pokemon with that wish ability but i dont know how to do that strategy.
