No one has tried this. (I don't think)

Chandelure @ Life Orb
Ability: Infiltrator
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 Hp

  • Calm Mind/Pain Split
  • Substitute
  • Flamethrower
  • Shadow Ball

You dearly need to outspeed the opponent for this set to be at its full potential. Use Substitute on the first turn to scout. Then, you can either set up with Calm Mind or Pain Split to heal off damage from Life Orb and Substitute. Flamethrower is for Fire STAB, and Shadow Ball is for Ghost STAB.

(Full on Set up Sweeper)

Chandelure (F) @ Quick Claw

Name: Lumiére
Ability: Flash Fire

E.V’s: SpA. - 252, Spe - 252, HP - 4

Moveset: {}= prefered
1) Calm Mind
2) {Flamethrower}/Shadow Ball
3) Substitute
4) Pain Split

This guy was my first ever shiny I hatched for. I took one good look at that SpA and new I had to get him into my OU team.

Problem: his defenses suck. Like really bad. Also he’s a little on the slow side by default so if he does manage to tank a hit and get off one shot, usually he’s toast the next round as even his remarkably high SpA isn’t enough to OHKO most Pokemon not to mention SpD walls like Blissey.

However, I believe this set circumvents most of his weaknesses to the best of his abilities, and here’s why. If you can manage to put up a substitute and set off a couple of calm minds, this guy becomes a OHKO beast on the battlefield. Trust me, there’s no better feeling than completely devastating a team of OU legendaries because they just can’t manage to get a good hit on you.

Steps to using this:

Note: Quick Claw rng will occur and is extremely helpful in the long run because it will allow you to OHKO in some cases without having to put up another substitute.

1) You can’t lead with this guy. Hell almost certainly be toasted because he has weaknesses to some of the most common types in the game. The good thing is that he has immunity to some of the most PREDICTABLE types in the game as well. His immunities are normal, fighting, and fire with his ability which I will come to next.

2) The best way to set up this chandelure is to swap him into a Pokemon primarily centered around attacking with his immunities/weaknesses. Good examples are Blaziken, Lucario, Ho-oh, Hetran, Ninjask, etc... This way, your opponent will most likely switch out to a Pokemon they think will be able to take you out, and you can put up a substitute. (Switching into fire Pokemon using fire moves is great because it boosts Chandelures flamethrower)

  1. If you think you can OHKO any Pokemon at that point, I highly encourage you to set up at least 1 calm mind. I usually do two if I can manage.

3) Use pain split to recover substitute damage. If they take down your substitute at this point that’s fine, calm mind boosts your defenses so you should have defenses on par with at least most average Pokemon.

4) Start mowing with flamethrower. Even resisting types take a lot of damage with a boosted flamethrower like chandelure. However, if you do want ghost type coverage, shadow ball should still work, it just won’t benefit as much.
