Oh, Amoonguss. The best Pokemon on my team. BY FAR.

FUNGUY LOLOLOLOL@ Black Sludge
Ability: Effect Spore
Nature: Bold
Evs: 252 Hp/166 Def/92 SDef

-Spore
-Giga Drain
-Protect
-Rage Powder

The strategy behind this is to annoy the poop out my opponent. First, you use Spore on one Pokemon, and kill the other with the Pokemon you pair it with. Note: try to Spore a physical attacker. Then, you either Giga Drain to heal more, or Rage Powder to keep your attacker alive.
Then when the other Pokemon wakes up, you Rage Powder again, helping your attacker, and making them activate Effect Spore. I use this with Mega Kangaskahn, and it is SO good.

Spore + Fake Out = DEAATHH

Lolz...
I know this is from 7 years ago, but amoonguss and kangaskhan were the dynamic duo in 2015, on the team named CHALK. that team took every nearly every if not all the top 8 spots in the 2015 world championships. please do not ask how i know that

VGC 2018 Amoonguss

Amoonguss @ Iapapa Berry
Bold/Relaxed Nature (Relaxed Nature if you are running Stomping Tantrum)
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

  • Clear Smog / Spore
  • Giga Drain
  • Sludge Bomb
  • Foul Play / Stomping Tantrum

This Amoonguss takes a +4 Rock Slide from Adamant Terrakion, and can fire off Clear Smog, which stops sweepers like Terrakion, and CurseLax/Belly Drum Snorlax.

+4 252+ Atk Terrakion Rock Slide vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Amoonguss: 142-168 (64.2 - 76%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

If by any chance an Adamant Terrakion gets a max roll, the Iapapa Berry will activate, and recover a lot of health. Regenerator is also useful for healing, because switching is common in VGC. Spore is for putting Pokemon to sleep, but watch out for Tapu Koko, since it's common in VGC, and Electric Terrain prevents grounded Pokemon from falling asleep. Giga Drain is a standard Grass attack that can heal you. Sludge Bomb is a standard Poison attack that has a 30% chance to Poison the target, which can matter a lot in the endgame. Foul Play is another setup counter, especially if the opponent has a lot of stat boosts, and has a better physical attack stat than Amoonguss, but Stomping Tantrum hits Nihilego and has a good chance to knock it out.

Gen 8 Doubles Ubers

Amoonguss @ Sitrus Berry / Aguav Berry
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 72 Def / 184 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Protect
- Rage Powder
- Spore
- Pollen Puff

Kinda similar to some of the other movesets and the Smogon set for Doubles OU, but oh well. Protect allows Amoonguss to stay safe from all non-Dynamax moves for a turn, with the exception of the rare Urshifu's attacks and the even rarer Feint. It can also be used to scout for attacks. Rage Powder redirects non-spread attacks towards Amoonguss so it's ally can be safe while it attacks, switches in / out or set up Trick Room. Speaking of Trick Room, Amooguss is incredible there, hence the 0 speed IVs and Sassy nature. It's base 30 speed stat allows it to underspeed all viable Trick Room abusers (except opposing Amoonguss) and put them to sleep with Spore. Spore doesn't have to only be used inside Trick Room, you can use it anytime (unless you're against a Grass type). Also, there's no sleep clause in Doubles Ubers. Pollen Puff prevents Amoonguss from being completely ruined by Taunt but more importantly heals your ally if you use it on them. Great for keeping your Trick Room setter healthy throughout a match. Sitrus Berry and Aguav Berry provide instant recovery when Amoonguss falls to a certain amount of HP (50% HP and 25% HP respectively). The latter heals more than the former. Also, due to the much faster pace of doubles matches compared to singles, the instant recovery provided by the aformentioned berries is better than passive recovery from Leftovers / Black Sludge. 72 defence EVs allow Amoonguss to survive a Behemoth Blade from Zacian-Crowned.

Calyrex-Ice is a great ally. It can set Trick Room for Amoonguss and itself thanks to Rage Powder and proceed to sweep the opposing team with spread Glacial Lance. It also makes quick work of the Grass types immune to spore. Amoonguss can also Spore Melmetal for Calyrex before it gets to knock Calyrex out.

This is my first post :D
As much as Amoongus is completely useless in single battles, he has an incredible assistance in Double Battles. He can be annoying to the opponent and difficult to take out if you team him up with the correct Pokemon.

Amoongus (Male)

Nature: Quirky (Neutral)
Ability: Effect Spore (May sleep, poision or paralyze enemy when touched)
Item: Black Sludge
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Special Defense, 4 Defense

  • Protect; good if Trick Room is used.
  • Attracr; Less chances for opponent to attack if paralyzed
  • Spore; annoy them.
  • Rage Powder; help your ally, I suppose.

I use Amoongus either with Eelektross or Jellicent (maybe Chandelure). Eelektross is a good backup to paralyze and poision opponents, and beast if given U-Turn to quickly leave and make way for an attacker. Jellicent is great with Trick Room and to take down those pesty fire and psychic types that can easily take down Amoongus. I'd give Chandelure escape button so it can do its job with trick room and then leave. To summarize, its great in doubles if used with the correct Pokemon.

why neutral nature? you could have extra defenses with bold or  any defensive nature. also attract is useless

Amoonguss (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Spore
  • Giga Drain
  • Sludge Bomb
  • Hidden Power [Fire]

Amoonguss' defensive capabilities makes its offensive capabilities very underrated. After toying around in RU for awhile, and using a similar set to the one above, I can say that offensive Amoonguss is better than Defensive, due to how uncommon it is. Although, when it does become known, it's probably gonna suck more..

Good base 85 SAtk boosted by a Life Orb and a Modest Nature make Amoonguss a surprisingly good attacker, and a tank. It's easy to bluff a Defensive set with Spore, forcing switches unless the Pokemon carries Sleep Talk or has Vital Spirit. STAB Giga Drain in conjunction with Life Orb allows me to heal off any damage Amoonguss has sustained during the turn and healing off Life Orb damage. Sludge Bomb is another STAB move that threatens Fire Pokemon harder than any other move that Amoonguss usually carries, besides Hidden Power Rock. Hidden Power Fire was used to catch Steel Pokemon and opposing Amoonguss. Life Orb works great in conjunction with Giga Drain and Regenerator, making it an optimal item.

Amoonguss (Amoonguss) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Clear Smog (cover batom passers)
- Spore (plox well)
- Giga Drain(stab)

Utility

Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Calm/Bold
EVs: max HP, a bunch of Defense and Sp. Defense, some Sp. Attack
Spore
Clear Smog
Giga Drain/Energy Ball/Grass Knot
Stun Spore/Synthesis

Amoonguss may seem inferior to Breloom and even Parasect, but there is at least one thing that differentiates this shroom from the other two: Clear Smog, which acts like a Haze that CAN'T be stopped by Taunt. Given Amoonguss's defenses it can stand in an enemy's way and smog away their stat boosts, perhaps after putting them to sleep with Spore.

Amoonguss (M) @ Black Sludge

Trait: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 64 Atk / 64 Def / 64 SAtk / 64 SDef
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)

  • Growth
  • SolarBeam
  • Synthesis
  • Payback

For use in the sun weather condition

Growth raises both attacking stats by 2 stages in the sun, which is really cool.
Solarbeam hit's in 1 turn, thanks again sun, while Payback is cool coverage, especially with how slow this guy is. Synthesis can keep you alive for a while, one again, it gets boosted by the sun.

by
So are you saying you sould teach it Sunnt Day?
rooo is right, you should swap payback for sunny day
why all those extra attack evs for one not great move? put it all into making it bulky or spA

Amoonguss @ Black Sludge/ Big Root
Ability: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 80 SpA / 48 SpD
Calm Nature
- Ingrain/ Double Team
- Giga Drain
- Spore
- Synthesis

Awesome for slow death and good for healing while dealing some damage! Start out with Ingrain if choosing that, then Spore and Giga Drain! If you like double team, Spore and then keep on using Double Team!

VGC 2016 Moveset

Amoonguss @ Mental Herb
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 244 HP / 60 Def / 204 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Grass Knot
- Spore
- Rage Powder
- Protect

In the world of Groudon, Yveltal and Ferrothorn, you'd think Amoonguss would suffer indefinitely. However, with one of the worst Speed stat and access to Spore and Rage Powder - this beast will decimate anything under Trick Room. Grass Knot can deal excellent damage to the heavy Restricted 'mons in VGC16, Primal-Kyogre in particular. Spore has 100% chance to make the opposition start napping, crippling them. Rage Powder helps a Pokémon set up. Protect allows for scouting and protection.

Grass/Poison type, huh...? No big deal at all. Just watch and learn!
Held item: Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Calm (-Atk, +SpD)
EVs: 252 Def, 84 SpD, 172 HP
Moveset:
-Spore
-Giga Drain
-Sludge Bomb
-Synthesis/Toxic
My brother uses Synthesis for his Amoongus, but I think both are okay. He really should have Spore-one of the moves that I found most annoying on Showdown.

Amoonguss @ Leftovers
Trait: Effect Spore
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef -SA
- Stun Spore
- Toxic
- Stomping Tantrum
- Endure

Basically, just completely stat-ify your opponents to death. Stomping Tantrum is for the Poison and Steel-types that Toxic doesn't affect, plus for extra power when Stun Spore misses.

why endure?

So here's 2 of my favorite sets for this little Mushroom.

Role: TR Sweeper

Shrooms (Amoonguss) (F) @ Life Orb
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Sludge Bomb
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Spore

Could swap HP Rock for Fire for Coverage.

Role: Bulky Tank
Amoonguss (F) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 50
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Clear Smog
- Foul Play
- Spore

Moves on these sets are self explanatory. Clear Smog is to nullify stat boosts while dealing damage (less passive than Haze), at the cost of not hitting steel types at all.

Amoongus @ Big Root
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SAtk / 4 SDef
Modest Nature

  • Giga Drain
  • Sludge Bomb
  • Synthesis
  • Pollen Puff

Giga drain does damage and heals you. Sludge bomb is just STAB. Synthesis and regenerator are a last resort. Pollen puff is coverage or heals your ally.
