If you have a good competitive moveset for Watchog, post an answer below and upvote the best ones. Movesets for its pre-evolutions, if any, can also be shared on this thread.

Be sure to include full set details in your post, e.g. items, abilities, natures and EVs. Some detail, including the intended game mode for your set, is also appreciated. Access the full list of guidelines here.

Watchog (F) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Thunder Wave
- Confuse Ray
- Super Fang
- Pursuit

Thunder Wave and Confuse Ray can normally keep your opponent from attacking.
If not, you have to hope that Focus Sash does you some good... Max HP may let you take a few hits from something weak though, that's the bright side of things.

Super Fang cuts opponents health by 50% of what it's at. Meaning if you attack an opponent with max health, you can deal a decent amount of damage.

This will break walls.

Pursuit is for ghost types and opponent that switch out to avoid confusion.

I would switch the pursuit out with Hyper Fang because Super Fang still can faint ghost opponets
Super Fang is normal and a damaging attack, so it can't hit ghosts without Pursuit.

I actually made this set before looking at Trachy's, and it's quite similar.

Watchog (M) @ Focus Sash

Role: Mixed Passer

Trait: Keen Eye

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Hypnosis
  • Mean Look
  • Work Up
  • Baton Pass

Hypnosis puts them to sleep, and Mean Look keep them from switching, work up, and Pass.
If you have to take an Attack, Atleast You have a Sash, reccomended, As a lead.

I'll be honest, I love Watchog and I think he's very underrated and underestimated, but I never would have used him competitively because of his poor stats and abilities. That is, until I tried him in Pokemon Showdown. Here's a set that's worked surprisingly well for me on Showdown for my Watchog.

Watchog
Nature: Adamant or Jolly
EVs 252 DEF 252 SDEF 4ATK- Let's him take hits better, he'll need it
Ability: Analytic- his only good competitive ability
Item: Focus Sash- Just in case

Moves
Confuse Ray- Confuses the target. Might also force a switch.
Thunderwave- Paralyzes the foe. Also might force a switch.
Knock-Off/Bite-This move got a huge buff this gen. It removes the opponent's item for the whole battle while also dealing some pretty sick damage to it too./Let's you paraflinch ghosts for super effective damage and now steel-types for neutral (in yo face Metagross >:^3)
Hyper Fang- STAB, chance to flinch

This Watchog set is a para-flinch set that also makes use of confusion to future annoy and debilitate opponents, which is what Watchog does best IMO. Start by using Thunderwave to paralyze your foe and then Confuse Ray to confuse it. If my facts are straight-- by using Hyper Fang the opponent will only have a 15% change to attack while Paralyzed and Confused, and with Bite, it would be -5%! Watchog might have bad stats, but if your opponent can't attack it doesn't really matter does it :) I took out a Mega-Scizor single-handedly using this set. A MEGA-SCIZOR!! If Watchog ever got a Mega with Serence Grace it could bring Watchy up to at least UU easily.

Counters: Ground-types. Eletric-types. Entry hazards. Burn/Poison damage. Pokemon with Limber, Steadfast, Inner Focus, Synchronize or Own Tempo.

Watchog (M) @ Leftovers / Quick Claw
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 HP / 126 Atk / 6 Def / 126 Spe
Jolly Nature (Spe+ SAtk-)
- Hypnosis
- Confuse Ray
- Super Fang
- Hyper Fang

This is normally a moveset it actually have when you catch it so its easy to get in Black And White But it can still be really annoying with the Hypnosis and Confuse Ray because you almost cant get a single hit in

The Quick Claw is if you want to attack with the Hypnosis fast Leftovers is more a risk for living more turns

Gen 7 ZU

Watchog @ Psychium Z
Ability: Keen Eye
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Hypnosis
- Swords Dance
- Return
- Crunch

Psychium Z is so you can use Z-Hypnosis, which raises your speed and can put the opponent to sleep if it lands. Swords Dance is to boost your attack while they are sleeping. Crunch is to deal with ghost types.

Watchog

Nat Dex

Don't use Watchog and use any other Pokemon and treat yourself right.

Watchog @ Leftovers
Ability: Analytic
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Confuse Ray
- Protect
- Knock Off / Super Fang

Watchog doesn't deserve a sprite for a comment, Watchog doesn't deserve anything, But I'm generous Enough to show the Stat Explanation, here.
Thunder Ray (Thunder wave + Confuse Ray) Can get the Pokemon to stop Attacking If you're lucky, Protect Is Stall for Thunder ray, and Knock off Is Utility (Super Fang Is a Good Move.)
