Which game? are you talking about the NPC trade in FRLG?
I always hated trading with NPCs because I knew I would never see the Pokemon again, unlike in real trades where there is a slight chance of seeing it again.

Pokemon disappear when traded to an NPC, and a Pokemon can't evolve after it disappears.
