I got abra in a trade. It evolved to kadabra but wont evolve any further. I clearly don't know why.

In effect, what you need to do is trade Kadabra to another game (triggering its evolution), then trade it back into your original game.
Yeah I would need a friend for that lol
If your Kadabra had trouble evolving with your trade partner, look here https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/298969/why-didnt-my-pokemon-evolve?show=298969#q298969
There are communities online, such as r/pokemontrades, that will help you evolve your Pokemon if trade evolutions are difficult for you.

I'm pretty sure you need to trade kadabra and it will evolve to Alakazam

To get Alakazam, you must train Abra until level 16. At level 16, it will evolve into Kadabra. Finally, you'll need to trade with someone, and then trade back to get your Alakazam.

Sorry if I confused you.

More information on Alakazam can be found here
If your Kadabra didn't evolve when you traded it to your friend, then look at my comment above

Hope I helped
