Sceptile (M) @ Flight Gem
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Acrobat
- Leaf Blade
- Earthquake
^ Needs a Sash
It is harder to get rid of a sash to power up unburden. Acrobatics is powered up not holding an item and the gem is disposed of before the move is used, so it is really powerful.
It's still really powerful without it...and Sceptile will die sooner.
Sceptile can learn outrage.. :D give it outrage
Special Sceptile with HP Rock is better
Focus Sash
Timid Nature
HP Rock
Energy Ball
Grass Knot
how about emerald

OK here's a few tips. Firstly, stick to moves of one category - either 'physical' or 'special'. In Sceptile's case his SpAtk is higher than Attack, but you can always EV train to get his attack higher.

It's pointless having two attacking moves of the same type (ie leaf blade and energy ball). Just stick with the most powerful one (depends on if your special attack is higher or not).

Dig is a bad move because of the two turns. If you dig underground on the first turn I can switch to a flying pokemon and the move won't have any effect. If you want a ground move, go with Earthquake. If you're going with Physical moves, X-Scissor is great, as is Leaf Blade.

I would always keep one spot for a status move - something that puts the opponent to sleep or confuses them for example.

oh i was looking at grovyle but its still annoying i have to type on my 3ds :/
Highly disagreeing about sticking to either Physical or Special Attack.
Mixed set is the only one worth considering on Sceptile Because he's attack is not good enough without sweeping to compete with most of the OU or Ubers, and Sceptile isn't exactly good at sweeping as he takes one hit and dies. Mixed set gives him a nice coverage.
Never have two STAB moves
i think the best full grass move set is leaf blade leaf stom solar beam and giga drain
I think that having both energy ball and Leaf blade would be good because if you have both, You will be able to do more damage do Pokémon with High special defense and high Physical Defense .

Ok here is the set I now use

Focus blast(Coverage)

Energy ball(STAB)

Dragon pulse(Coverage)

For physical users

Leaf blade(STAB)

Rock slide(Coverage)

Swords dance(Mandatory for increasing Attack)

I would trade anything for the special set you have there!
Do you mean Dragon Breath or Dragon Claw? Because Sceptile cannot learn Dragon Pulse.
I just checked again. And sceptile can be taught Dragon Pulse through a Tutor, but not in Sun and Moon, though

Sceptile @ Life Orb

Trait: Overgrow

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature (+Spe, -SpA)

  • Hone Claws
  • Leaf Blade
  • DynamicPunch
  • Rock Slide/Earthquake

I tried making something original.
Hone Claws boosts accuracy and Attack, just find a good situation to set it up.
Leaf Blade is good STAB with a better crit chance, if something is setting up Def you can spam dat mofo for a potential crit.
DynamicPunch has good power, and it's honestly the main reason Hone Claws is here. It also has a excellent secondary effect (confuses opponent).
Rock Slide patches up the coverage hitting Bug- and Flying-types, while Earthquake takes care of Poison-types.

Okay, this is awasome stuff.
Is hone claws even available in heartgold?

GASP! A non-mega Sceptile?!

Sceptile @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Unburden
Nature: Hasty
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpA
-Drain Punch
-Giga Drain / Thunder Punch

This set turns Sceptile's weaknesses into benefits. Endure allows you to survive a SE hit which would otherwise kill it. Then it can grab the Weakness Policy boost and Drain Punch itself back to victory. Unburden allows it to outspeed basically everything. Giga Drain can also be used, if you prefer Mixed, and also beating Physical walls. If you run Thunder Punch, be sure to use a Jolly nature, and put the extra 4 EVs in HP. Acrobatics also hits insanely hard after the boost. A Liechi Berry can be substituted for Weakness Policy for considerably less power but more reliability. I personally don't think it's worth it.

Nature: Adamant (We're going for Attack)
EV: 252 Attack , 252 Speed , 4 HP
Leaf Blade (STAB)
Rock Slide (Covers bug, flying, ice and fire weaknesses , what else do you need )
EarthQuake (Covers poison and great power)
Hone Claws/Swords Dance

With that speed and combo you could well go on KOing opponents easily .

Jolly nature instead you want to out speed alot of threats
Hone Claws is not available in Gen 4, stick to Swords Dance.

Here's a mixtile set I made for gen V OU/UU.

Leaf Storm-STAB, pretty powerful move.

Hidden power [fire]-deals with genesect, ferrothorn, scizor, or foretress. It serves to deal with bugs that have the advantage over him, or Steel types that try to shut him out.

Rock slide-Covers 4 weaknesses in one move.

Dragon Claw-Deals with Kingdra, a pretty common check to sceptile.

For generation V, you can also use the move Acrobatics combined with a flight gem. Since the gem goes away before the game checks for items, the damage will be tripled, which, combined with Sceptile's new unburden ability, is pretty devastating.

Rock HP works well on pesky bug types as well
not just bugs, but also flying, ice, and fire :)
in-game, Hidden Power types are hard to get right. Look up where the guy is who tells you

Hmm... I'm pretty sure nobody posted a sub-seed set so lololol

Sceptile @ leftovers
Trait: any
Ev's: 252 attack 252 speed 4 special defense
Nature: jolly/adamant
-leech seed
-swords dance
-leaf blade/earthquake/focus punch

Heres what you do: first, set up substitute. Then you leech seed and swords dance. Try and get at least one swords dance up before the sub is broken otherwise you wont stand a chance. Either leaf blade, for STAB and high crit chance, Earthquake, coverage and high power, or focus punch, coverage and high power but onpy works if ur opponent is setting up that turn or if ur behind ur sub.

This is a unique set I made for NU. It may seem bad but it is a work in progress

No offense but Sceptile is wayyyyyyy to for frail to try to subseed
Ikr but like a said its a work in progress u dont have to use it anyway
Good set but yeah, Sceptile is extremely frail. Hey, it's unique.
This is the worst Sceptile moveset I’ve ever seen in my whole life. I love it so much lololololol can’t wait to troll my friends with this I wish I could upvote a million times

Sceptile @ Adrenaline Orb
Ability: Unburden
Modest Nature
EVs: 212 Spe/252 SpA/44 HP
IVs: 0 Atk
- Giga Drain
- Protect
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
Description: This Sceptile is for Doubles. While its Adrenaline Orb may seem useless, it actually raises its speed by one stage when Intimidated. This, combined with Unburden, can make Sceptile VERY hard to deal with.

Sceptile @ Sitrus Berry/Kee Berry/Maranga Berry/Figy Berry
Ability: Unburden
Adamant Nature
EVs: 252 Atk/200 Spe/48 HP/8 Def
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Leaf Blade
- X-Scissor
Description: A singles Unburden sweeper.

Sceptile @ Focus Sash
Ability: Unburden
Lonely Nature
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spe
IVs: 0 HP, Def, and SpD
- Swords Dance
- Acrobatics
- Leaf Blade
- X-Scissor/Drain Punch
Description: Minimum defenses are too ensure that Focus Sash kicks in. This particular set is really, really, bad and you can only use it against friends, and friends that suck badly, I might add. Occasionally, it MIGHT work in competitive, but not nearly often enough to justify using over the regular smogon set. Drain Punch is to cover for his insane weakness to any hazards.

Wow. Those are creative troll sets.

Sceptile-Mega @ Sceptilite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dragon Pulse
- Giga Drain
- Protect
- Hidden Power [Fire]

Since M-Sceptile's Sp.A is higher,it's better to stick with that instead. If you feel like it,you can run Mixed/Physical and Swap out Hidden Power Fire for E-quake and swap the other moves for their respective Physical Counterparts. And anyway,Protect is like a signature move for my play style cause you can use it to bait opponents.
Edit:Forgot to add that you're better of using Sceptile's Mega because of Normal Sceptile's stats and defenses. It's base isn't bad,but 105 isn't that great especially for a grass Pokemon.Since grass Pokemon are meant to stall, not attack. So Sceptile is a weird one for me.

Well, It's pretty good. However, At lvl 67, he learns leaf storm which is even better than energy ball and laef blade. However, it greatly lowers your sp. attack but with 140 power, it's a great move.

i am not replaceing energy ball i went through to much to get it

a good move set for sceptile would be...

leaf storm: a high power move of it's type witch will give it extra power
aerial ace: i sure hit move witch will help when battling fire types such as infernape
toxic: a helpful move witch poisons the foe witch could give you an advantage in battle
rock slide: i decent powered move that will be useful when fighting fire types.
hope this will help i know a fair bit about sceptile as it is one of my Favourite starter evolutions pokemon along with empoleon.

If you want a good mixed attacker with special and physical attacks try this out:

Careful Nature, Female, with lum berry/white herb

Rockslide - Covers the flying and fire weaknesses
X-Scissor - Deals with fellow grass types as well as psychic and darks
Dragon Claw/Outrage - Coverage
Leafstorm - Hits hard a few times and make use of special attacks

Hope this helps and good luck in your exploits!

Why female

My Sceptile is:
Adamant, Alert Sounds
Swords Dance
Leaf Blade
Item:Salac Berry

THIS is a SCEPTILE move set:
thunder punch (flying type coverage)
x-scissor (versing other grass types
earthquake (fire type coverage)
leaf blade (best physical move for sceptile in my opinion)

P.S. EV train its defense/sp.d/speed if you want to sweep fire types.
give it thunder gem/zap plate if you want it to destroy flying types
earth plate is for ground types
leave x-scissor and leaf blade alone for now

Leaf storm -the best grass type moveset.

Earthquake - helps to deal with fire and poison types.

ariel ace -to deal with bug types.

Focus blast -to deal with ice types.
