But bro any fire or even earthquake can sweep both of them
wat u mean abomasnow is x4 weak to fire but ground is normal, and fire is normally effective on walrien(not very effective if thick fat) and ground is normally affective. plus, earthquake is physical and curse raises def. learn type advantages before you say that.

If you want a good staller Go with this set

Walrein @ Leftlovers

EVS : Def / Sp Def

  • Toxic
  • Protect
  • Aqua Ring
  • Hail

The plan is simple, stall your foe to death with this, i recommend that you do this : Hail - Protect - Aqua Ring - Protect - Toxic - Protect and then whatever you want, if you can succesfulyl do this, you can get 3 recoveries (Ice body, leftlovers and aqua ring) and your foe will take the damage from toxic and hail

If you ever want a stall you gotta have max hp and a spread on the def and sp def evs
I have the same set up, but with blizzard(max pp) instead of toxic. Good idea with the toxic though, i toxic with my Blissey XD.

Walrein (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Yawn
- Brine
- Ice Beam
- Super Fang

Fairly standard Walrein set, making best use of all of Walrein's nice features. Obviously, this guy is for when you need him in a team that isn't Hail. Which is going to happen a fair amount in NU, seeing as Snover is UU and Sunny Day and Rain Dance are better weather moves to be using. Also that Regice managed to outclass Walrein this Gen. This set uses the awesome combo of Super Fang and Brine. Super Fang gets the HP down to manageable levels. Walrein has decent offense, so with a STAB 130 base power Brine being used on a Pokemon which will likely only have 150-200 HP, you can easily take down the foe. This high base power and hitting off of the half HP allows Walrein to run its EVs all defensively. Odd HP EVs for Stealth Rock and for Spikes. Most of the EVs are put into Defense because Walrein can take Special hits easy with Thick Fat, meaning all that is left is Physical bulk. Ice Beam is for STAB and coverage, getting a x4 hit on Altaria also. And Yawn works great if you have Entry Hazards up. It forces your opponent to take damage or go to sleep. Leftovers is for healing.

As Walreins usually have lightly higher sp. attack, ice beam is better than Ice ball as it has higher accuracy and walreain wont last long enough to bring it to full power...most battles don't last very long, someone is usually KO'd by the 3rd or 4th turn and by then ice ball still wont be at its maxed power.

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Waterfall
  • Earthquake
  • Avalanche
  • Body Slam / Crunch / Rock Slide / Rock Tomb / Iron Tail

Everyone loves Wally.

Waterfall is your favorite STAB, lets you straight up attack.
Earthquake is boss coverage. While Avalanche makes use of the fact that he isn't amazingly fast, so he gets that super powered Ice STAB if he needs it. And then your coverage options..

Body Slam - My preferred coverage move, gets a lot of neutral blows in, and ( Big reason here ) has a chance to paralyze, which screws sweepers.

Crunch - Can lower defense, meaning he might get some lucky 2KOs in, and a super effective OHKO, it's just there and a available.

Rock Slide - Gets Edge-Quake coverage.. that's it. xD

Rock Tomb - Edge-Quake coverage and can lower speed, making Wally actually go first! Not super reccomended though..

Iron Tail - For those who don't get a crap about accuracy. It can lower defense, gets so-so coverage, not really anything new, though.

I Reccomend Body Slam or Rock Slide.

Rock Slide does give a chance to flinch.
Wailrein is not going to be flinching much.
Walrein doesn't out speed jack crap, meaning if considering it; I'm not going to be looking at a flinch rate, for a slow pokemon.

Walrein @ Life Orb/Leftovers

Trait: Ice Body

EVs: 168 HP / 252 SpA / 88 Spe

Modest Nature (+SpA, -Atk)

  • Blizzard
  • Surf
  • Hidden Power Electric
  • Super Fang

Hail tank.
Blizzard is powerful STAB with full accuracy in Hail, hitting Grass types hard and is a powerful attack.
Surf is STAB as well, rounding out the coverage nicely hitting Fire types among other things.
Hidden Power Electric hits Gyarados hard, and hits other Water types super effectively.
Super Fang effectively cuts down the HP of the opponent in half.
The EVs are to outspeed Pokemon with 75 base speed and below by 2 points just in case they want to put 4 EVs in speed, with max special attack for hardest possbile hitting while the rest are dumped into HP for extra bulk.

Walrein is makin dis face! :D

All your attacks are good but I think you should take out Ice Ball and put in Ice Fang.

Know this is an old question, but

Since your Walrein is Ev attack trained teach it avalanche instead of Ice Ball. Walrein is slow, and that can lead to massive 120 power if opponent attacks first!

Walrein @ Icy Rock
Ability: Ice Body
- Hail (Make blizzard always hit, and gain health due to ice body)
- Blizzard (STAB, can freeze, deal with grass)
- Surf (STAB, deal with Rock)
- Toxic/Aqua Ring/Yawn (Annoying poison, or more health gain, or slow them down)

Walrein, is great for coverage pokemon. Mine is built around Speed which is very unexpected.

Ice Beam - STAB and great for against ground and grass
Earthquake - Great against the fire and electrics you come across
Dive - stall and STAB
Rock Slide - great for against flying and fire and bug types.

the reason is built around speed is because of its nature. I have talked to the person in the train station on the game and that's what the person said is the best part of my Walrein.
That just means his best IVs are in Speed. That is not going to make him a great sweeper. His base speed is too low.
I was new... I was only playing Main Game... Wasn't playing Metagame... I don't use Walrein anymore. But I could probably find a better use for him.

Walrein @ Leftovers
Ability: Oblivious/Thick Fat
EVs: 248 HP / 82 Def / 180 SpD
Calm/Sassy Nature
- Toxic
- Aqua Ring
- Protect
- Surf / Super Fang / Dive / Whirlpool / Stockpile

This moveset works wonders. Toxic is your straight forward way of dealing damage as Walrein is an extremely stally Pokemon. Aqua Ring is for 18% recovery each turn when coupled with Leftovers. Protect is for stalling Toxic + Aqua Ring turns. For the last slot, you really have a lot of options. Surf is for STAB, Super Fang is for halving the opponent HP, which makes it rather easy to KO the target, Dive is for stalling out a turn + damage (if running Dive, run a Sassy Nature as going last is always appreciated when using Dive), Whirlpool is for dealing even more damage per turn to the opponent (if running Whirlpool, use Thick Fat as it is not legal with Oblivious) and (finally) Stockpile is for setting up defenses and goes well with Oblivious as you cannot be taunted. Oblivious, as stated before, is highly recommended for Walrein as you cannot be taunted and also because it is it's only niche as a staller in PU, and Thick Fat is so that Whirlpool can be legal, but also has its own niche in reducing damage taken from Fire and Ice type attacks. If running a hail team, you should opt for Ice Body, as this gives you 3 recoveries per turn (until Hail ends), which is outrageous.

edit: Trachy has informed that odd HP EVs are better for Stealth Rock and Spikes, so I have changed Walrein's HP EVs to 248, then dumped the remaining ones into Defense. Thank you!

- Fissure
- Sheer Cold
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Fissure/Sheer Cold may not hit every time, but when they do it'll kill the opponent. If HP is low or status happens, Rest and Sleep Talk while asleep. Lax Incense makes enemy moves miss and Oblivious prevents Taunt.

The Sturdy Ability and Focus Sash stop this set in its tracks.

Snowballing Walrein set!

Snowball the Walrein
Oblivious (prevents Taunt from preventing use of Defense Curl and Yawn)
Zoom Lens OR Normalium Z
Adamant (+ATT,-SPATT)

Ice Ball (STAB/power doubles with each hit and power doubled by Defense Curl)
Rollout (Power doubles with each hit and power doubled by Defense Curl)
Defense Curl (Raises Defense and doubles power of Ice Ball and Rollout)
Yawn (Use and then set up with Defense Curl/lessen chance of being KO-ed while snowballing)

A pretty straight-forward set. Z-Defense Curl also raises your Accuracy by one stage, so use this over Zoom Lens if you're worried about out-speeding slower foes and missing with your two 90% accuracy moves. Also of note is Z-Yawn, which raises your Speed by one stage, therefore allowing you to out-speed foes with a less-than-or-equal-to base Speed of 65 (as with Walrein having no EVs in Speed (at level 50) gives it 85 speed-128 when raised by one stage).

P.S. I'd also recommend trying a Walrein set with Brine and Super Fang, as they play VERY nicely off of each other!
