If you have a good competitive moveset for Entei, post an answer below and upvote the best ones. Movesets for any of its pre-evolutions can also be shared on this thread.

Be sure to include full set details in your post, e.g. items, abilities, natures and EVs. Some explanation, including the intended game mode for your set, is also appreciated. Access the full list of guidelines here.

Entei Pokédex and learnset for reference.

Entei is Physical (Attack is higher than Special Attack) so any nature that lowers attack isn't good.
so 7 years later and no body noticed that trachy put a moveset for raikou?
Oh. I did not.

Item: Leftovers/Life-orb
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 speed, 6 Hp

Flare-blitz
Extreme-speed
Stone-edge
Iron-head

I can't believe no-one made a set making use of his event moves. Flare-blitz is powerful STAB you can heal off the damage gradually with Leftovers or go suicide with Life-orb. Exreme-speed is powerful priority which is definitely need considering him needing to have Adamant nature. Stone-edge is coverage. Iron-head is coverage.

I abuse this in UU :D

NU is no more.

Entei @ Choice Band
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature

  • Sacred Fire
  • Extreme Speed
  • Stomping Tantrum
  • Stone Edge

Sacred Fire is one heck of a STAB move, dealing massive damage and having a 50% chance of burning the target (yes, that is even higher than the dreaded Scald and Lava Plume), so common physically offensive switch-ins like Flygon and Tyrantrum will be crippled and in general its a great move for busting up walls like Vaporeon and Dragalge with burn's additional chip damage. Extreme Speed revenge-kills faster threats and Choice Scarf users. Stomping Tantrum covers Diancie and Tyrantrum and consistently gets rid of Salazzle. Stone Edge is a shaky but powerful coverage option that impales Aerodactyl, Arcanine, Araquanid, and Talonflame.

Guys, this is big.

Entei has received SACRED FIRE in X and Y. Entei is back. And he will claim his throne.

Set: Bye Arcanine, Hi Entei.
Entei @ Life Orb/Choice Band
Ability:Pressure
EVs:4HP/252Attack/252Speed
Adamant Nature (+Att,-SpAtt)
-SACRED FIRE
-Extremespeed
-Stone Edge
-Iron Head/Bulldoze

Have you heard of Sacred Fire? We are talking about a 100BP, 95% ACC, FIRE TYPE PHYSICAL DESTRUCTION WITH A 50% BURN CHANCE HERE. For that reason alone, Entei will surely move up to UU or even OU. Extremespeed is to knock that last sliver of health from opponents, while Stone Edge and Iron Head is coverage. Bulldoze is mainly to get the 2HKO on Heatran, but offers little else.

I keep seeing moves that Entei can't use/learn...are these moves (such as Extremespeed and Iron Head) taught by move tutors somewhere that I don't know about?
No, it says above that these are event moves. (Moves learnt by an Entei given out in an event that has since finished)

And also this answer is just like another answer above, except with Sacred Fire instead of Flamethrower.

This thing is really good. It's great as a sweeper and has great stats. There nothing else it needs, but to add some extra spice, we are using a Weakness Policy Entei.

Entei @ Weakness Policy
Nature: Naive
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Sp. Atk
Ability: Pressure

  • Flame Charge
  • Sacred Fire
  • Stone Edge/Extreme Speed
  • Hidden Power Grass/Iron Head

Flame Charge is for boosting Speed and part of the setting up. Sacred Fire is pretty good STAB and has a 50% chance of burning the opponent. Stone Edge is for mainly power and semi-coverage, but Extreme Speed is for priority. Hidden Power Grass is to cover all weaknesses and it will be more effective after a +2 in Special Attack (and attack) from Weakness Policy, but Iron Head is for Ice, Fairy, and Rock types.

I really like the idea of this, but I still think some guaranteed priority from Extreme Speed (and thus Jolly, not Naive) would be preferred over one of the coverage moves - I'd scrap Stone Edge personally. Heck, you could have another special move like Extrasensory in here since you're benefitting from the policy, but I like Iron Head better.

Also, Sacred Fire requires an Adamant nature.
Thanks for the feedback!
When I said Sacred Fire required an Adamant nature, I meant it. It's literally impossible to have it another way. I agree that Naive would work better, but the event Entei with Sacred Fire was nature-exclusive. Damn stubborn GameFreak.
Oh. Let me choose a different move :P Last time I checked, Entei could Sacred Fire via Level Up from X and Y onwards.

With Entei now being in Gen 8 NU, there's this set that has been passed around apparently. It's called VinTei. So, here it is:

Gen 8 NU

Entei @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Def / 100 SpD / 24 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Protect
- Lava Plume

252 Defense EVs is to help with Entei taking physical attacks. 24 Speed EVs allow you to outspeed max speed Adamant Tyrantrum. 100 Special Defense EVs allow you to take some special attacks. The rest of the EVs go to HP. The ability Pressure is so you can pretty much PP stall a Pokemon.

Substitute allows you to scout Pokemon attacks, protect yourself from status, and to set up Calm Mind. Calm Mind boosts your special attack and special defense. Protect is to allow you to get a free turn of Leftovers recovery, and works well with the ability Pressure. Lava Plume is STAB that has a 30% chance to burn, meaning it can cripple physical sweepers and wallbreakers.

Entei appreciates a Pokemon that can deal with rock types. Flygon can do that, as it resists rock type moves. Flygon's ability Levitate also helps with Entei's ground weakness. Flygon can also serve as a Defogger to help clear Stealth Rock which helps out Entei. Vaporean can easily switch into water type moves, allowing it to absorb water moves with its ability Water Absorb. Vaporeon can also provide Heal Bell support that helps out Entei should it be statused. It can also wish pass to help Entei stay healthy.

VGC 2022 (doubles)

Entei

Entei @ Assault Vest
Ability: Inner Focus
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SpA)
EVs: 132 HP / 252 Atk / 100 Def / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
- Sacred Fire
- Extreme Speed
- Stone Edge
- Stomping Tantrum

This is a bulky attacker build for VGC 2022 (doubles). It is based on Pikalytics data (as of 2022-08-28) and inspired by this tip from the Smogon forums.

Inner Focus (ability) is key for this doubles build because it ignores both the all-present Fake Out as well as Intimidate. Sacred Fire is chosen instead of Flare Blitz in order to make this bulky Entei last longer (Flare Blitz incurs substantial recoil), as well as to threaten physical attackers with burn (50% chance with Sacred Fire) without sacrificing damage output (unlike with Will-O-Wisp). Extreme Speed's main benefit is that it has priority over Sucker Punch, namely when an opposing Sucker Punch is aimed at an ally weak to it. Stone Edge and Stomping Tantrum are both for coverage. Finally, that fact that Stomping Tantrum doubles in power if the user's most recent attack missed compensates quite nicely for Stone Edge's inaccuracy (80% accurate).

This build counters the 5 of the most common VGC pivots: Incineroar, Rillaboom, Thundurus, Tornadus, and Celesteela. It can also survive at least one hit from both maxed-Atk Zacian as well as maxed-Atk Landorus. Moreover, it offers sustained (and optionally prioritized) damage output to help your primary dynamaxed attacker close out KOs without the risk of being Faked Out or Intimidated.

It's not necessary to link every single move and effect to a dedicated page. We've played Pokemon before. We know what these moves do.
@WhiteFire ...and yet, entire websites exist dedicated to documenting and referencing these things. If you don't like the little blue underlines, then you don't have to read my answer. I for one think that wiki-style auto-linking should be the default anyway (for all the same reasons that every other major wiki supports it).
Is there a reason you say this set is a scarfed attacker set when this set uses Assault Vest? Did you mean that this is an Assault Vest set?
@Volt Striker -- Good catch! That was accidentally leftover from a prior draft of the post when I was experimenting with a different build. I've edited it to be consistent with the rest of the post that I actually ended up published.

Gen V

Entei @ Choice Scarf

Trait: Flash Fire

EVs: 128 Atk / 128 SAtk / 252 Spd

Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)

  • Eruption
  • Stone Edge
  • Shadow Ball
  • Bulldoze

Item: Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 Hp, 200 Defense, 58 S.Defense

Calm-mind
Will-o-wisp
Flamethrower
Reflect/Hidden-power(Ground)

Calm-mind is boosting the S.Defense so it becomes great. Will-o-wisp is for crippling and stalling. Flamethrower is STAB. Reflect is for temporarily boosting the defense and team-support, while Hidden-power(Ground) is coverage which can be very useful if you are faced with a Flash fire Pokemon.
