Hah, you asked the right person. I am the King of Charizard. I shall give you multiple movesets in order from best to worst. Also I am using for mine Dragon Pulse, Flamethrower, Earthquake, and Air Slash which I find is best. However, here are some other options:

Movesets: Just make sure you have Rapid Spin support if you fear Stealth Rock (I don't.)

  1. Physical and Special Attacker
Flamethrower: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to burn, powered up when Blaze is active, also a good amount of PP.
Dragon Pulse: Good power, high accuracy, deals with Dragon types.
    Earthquake: Must I say why?
Rock Slide: Decent power, decent accuracy, good chance to cause flinching, deals with Flying types.

  2. Physical Attacker
Aerial Ace: STAB, decent power, doesn't miss.
    Earthquake: No reason needed.
Fire Punch: Decent power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to burn, powered up when Blaze is active.
    Swords Dance: Increases attack.

  3. Sunny Day
Dragon Pulse: Good power, high accuracy, deals with Dragon types.
Flamethrower: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to burn, powered up when Blaze is active, also a good amount of PP.
Sunny Day: Increases the power of Flamethrower, lowers Water types power, charges up Solarbeam.
Solarbeam: Charged by Sunny Day, high power, high accuracy, deals with Water and Rock types.

  4. Special with Counter
Counter: Allows for a Physical attack counter.
Flamethrower: Good power, high accuracy, STAB, chance to burn, powered up when Blaze is active, also a good amount of PP.
Air Slash: Decent power, decent accuracy, STAB, good chance to cause flinching.
Dragon Pulse: Good power, high accuracy, deals with Dragon types.

  5. Special Attacker
Focus Blast: High power, chance to lower Sp. Def, deals with Rock types.

For the special attacker why not heatwave instead?
less reliable
you have good movesets but,why isn't thunderpunch in any of these?
do u think this is a good set on a charizard?

adament/jolly 252atk 252spd 4 hp

item leftovers ability blaze

flare blitz(powerful STAB and terribly overpowered sadly it gives a LOT of recoil)

outrage(hits 2-3 times incredibly powerful but sadly not STAB)

rock slide(its just there to be there then again good against other charizard and overall is a decent move)

dragon dance(sadly only learnt through breeding but have got one they are good with this but has to be used properly if u use at the wrong time u could get K.O so be careful BUT it is very good if u can set up with it

cool trachy I might be able to give your charizard a run for its monny!
put in the 'physical attacker' thunderpunch in the place of E-quake or S´dance
Why not Dragon Dance?
For pokemon x/y what mega evolution do you prefer for charizard in the "Physical and special attacker"
Many of these movesets are not very good, as they leave the pokemon open to weaknesses and many of the attacks have nasty side effects.  They also do not include many of the stratigical effects form other attacks that Charizard can learn through TMs, egg moves, and moves learned by level up/evolve.  All in all, I think that you need to rethink/rewrite this page for the reasons listed above.
Charizard @Charizardite Y
Trait: Blaze( When Mega its drought)
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk 252 Spd 4 Atk
Dragon Pulse- Deals with dragon types well
Air Slash- Has a chance to flinch
Solar Beam- Deals with pesky water, rock and ground types
Flamethrower- STAB, high power & accuracy
I think Charizardite Y would be a good item for the Sunny Day Moveset. Because Drought would basically be the same as Sunny Day right? But using Sunny Day, then Solar Beam means two turns. But if your Charizard is low on HP and will be taken out on the next turn, then you could Mega Evolve and use Solar Beam in 1 turn which would pretty much save your Charizard's life if you were battling against a Water and/or Rock type.
How does this get rid of Aerodactyl
Maybe instead of sunny day, you could have charizardite y. because of mega charizard y's ability is drought, it allows solar beam to execute on the same turn. this also allows another move for it to know
You are right, Charizard is BOSS and I use him for all pokemon games
My charizard moveset is
Dragon pulse
Wing attack
Thunder punch
Should i cahnge anything?
Charblastvenachu you should use 1 attack statbase. if you use P.attack you should change 2 moves first like:earthquake, rock slide or something
if you use SP.attack you should change 2 move last like air slash,...

Alright, a Physical Tank. Really, I'm serious. 280 max defense is sweet.

Charizard (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Flare Blitz
- Earthquake
- ThunderPunch
- Brick Break

Leftovers is for recovery, a vital part of any Tank. Blaze is nice. Evs give it some Physical bulk. Flare Blitz is STAB, along with being killer with Blaze. Another nice bonus is it helps you get to Blaze faster. Earthquake kills. Period. Also nicely covers Electric. ThunderPunch covers Water, while having a parachance. Brick Break breaks Screens, and covers Rock. Nobody expects this. Who uses a Sweeper as a Tank? Me.

Why relaxed and not impish(+def, -S.attack) that way you dont lower a potentially useful stat.
That's a very good suggestion Speed Freak. Thanks!
You are a genius! I got my new Charmander and  I´m training it just like you said!
I love this, this will definitely raise some eyebrows competitively.
belly drum
fire punch
quick attack
quick attack
belly drum roost
fire punch
use the 2nd one, roost heals charizard from belly drum. change quick attack with EQ for more coverage at the cost of priority.

Wow I can't belive you forgot D-Dancer
D-Dancezard Nature Jolly, Evs 4hp, 252 attack, 252 speed

D-Dance(Boost speed and attack)

Flare blitz/Fire punch(Either power or no recoil)

E-quake(DUH! covers 4x rock weakness and 2x electric)

Dragon claw/Thunder punch(Cover water or Dragon)

Charizard (M) @ Leftovers

Role: Sunny Sweeper

Trait: Solar Power

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Air Slash
  • Flamethrower
  • SolarBeam
  • Dragon Pulse

Okay, I'm going to start off by saying this set only works in the sun.

Flamethrower gives you a nasty STAB move that destroys most Pokemon in one hit.

While Solar Beam Is instant in the sun, And covers all of Charizards Weaknesses.
Dragon Pulse is strictly For Dragon's to take them out as fast as you can.

And Air Slash is For flying STAB, and Also if you REALLY wanna press your luck With flinch hax.

Leftovers is the item of Choice to heal off Sun damage.

It's funny cause in 2013 megazard y gets drought.
Also I'd suggest putting that extra 4 evs in defence or special defence based on the metagame/preference cause it's good to have an odd numbered hp at lvl 100 since it's 4 times weak to rocks, for substitute, etc.
This is my exact moveset.
What about 'lectrics?

This is similar to J98's set, but it is a scarfer with *slightly better coverage.

Negrozard (Charizard) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Solar Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- SolarBeam
- Hidden Power [Rock] / [Ground]
- Dragon Pulse

Basically, Scarf makes it outspeed just about anything, while Solar Power acts as Choice Specs on this set. Flamethrower is huge STAB in the sun. Solarbeam covers rock and water resistance as well as hitting ground types hard. Hidden Power [Rock] covers other Charizards and other fire types that resist STAB, Ground can also be good to hit Heatran and electric types (Flamethrower is stronger on electrics). Dragon Pulse hits resistant dragons and it has a huge neutral coverage.
This guy works great with a Magic Bouncer or Rapid Spinner to deflect or clear Stealth Rocks, as well as a Drought Ninetales. I like the nickname as Negro is Spanish for black, and it sounds way cooler than Blackzard on a Shiny Charizard.

"scarfer" or "scarier"?
omg "negro" lol
That's cool but why hidden power rock when he gets ancient power as an egg move, it doesn't sacrifice speed ivs so he can always outspeed other zards and it has a chance to raise all his stats? Not sure if this is because I'm commenting in 2014 and it's a new thing...
I just realised prior to gen 6 the base power was higher... sorry. But ancient power is a way cooler alternative now.
Nero is italian for black.
Wait if he has choice  scarf won't he burn it?

Charizard (M) @ Charcoal

Ability: Blaze

EVs: 200 Atk / 180 SAtk / 128 Spd

Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)

  • Dragon Dance
  • Fire Blast - Special
  • Earthquake - Physical
  • Focus Punch - Physical

Dragon Dance lets you screw over a few speed EV's and go mixed, this guy works great with it.

Charcoal, Blaze ( Possibly ) , and STAB. Makes Fire Blast a deadly Shock even though it's not getting the Attack boost from Dragon Dance, This guy just isn't himself without Fire STAB.

Earthquake gets great type coverage!

Focus Punch Can take out threats such as Snorlax, ( Who needs curse to live off of physical hits ) for super effective damage quickly and painfully.
With good prediction, this move can be really good.

Double/Triple Battle Charizard

Charizard (M) @ Life Orb

Trait: Blaze/Solar Power
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Heat Wave
- Air Slash/Air Cutter
- Dragon Pulse
- Tailwind/Protect/Focus Blast/Fire Pledge

Blaze should be the ability used if you don't have Sunny Day support. If you do have Sunny Day Support, then use Solar Power. Heat Wave is STAB that hits multiple foes. A great move. Air Slash can be used in Double Battles as just a powerful STAB. or in Triple Battles you can use it to hit any foe on the battlefield. Air Cutter hits multiple foes, but has low base Power. Also, it cannot be used with Solar Power. Dragon Pulse gives you neutral coverage only resisted by Heatran. It can also hit any foe on the field in a Triple Battle. The last move you have plenty of choices. Tailwind can be used to support the team (and make Charizard faster) but it can't be used with Solar Power. Protect is just your basic multi-battle move. It protects Charizard from enemy attacks and ally Surfs and Discharges. Focus Blast is type coverage. Fire Pledge can be used if you want to set up a field effect along with Grass Pledge or Water Pledge.

Charizard (M) @ Lum Berry
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Belly Drum
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Substitute

why Lefties? Isnt it better for blaze to activate?
Oops, forgot to copy+paste the edited set with Lum Berry. Used to have Leftovers to help with Belly Drum, then I remembered Blaze, so I replaced it with Lum Berry. I always forget to copy, although at least this time I didn't post a Tauros moveset in the Gyarados question.

Thanks for the memory jog.
salac is better get dat speed boost

Special set

In short, I'd go for: Flamethrower / Focus Blast / Dragon Pulse / Substitute

There are 3 possible fire moves you could use for a special Charizard:
- Flamethrower (power 95, accuracy 100)
- Heat Wave (power 100, accuracy 90)
- Fire Blast (power 120, accuracy 85)

It depends on whether you want power or reliability (personally I go for reliability). Or, if you're expecting to switch in, KO, then switch out, Overheat is a great option. For the other moveslots:

Focus Blast takes care of Rock pokemon, among others.

Dragon Pulse is very powerful and takes care of the unpredictable nature of dragons - they could have Thunderbolt, Aqua Tail, Surf, Stone Edge or other super-effective moves.

Ominous Wind is a good one, to cover Ghost/Psychic. Substitute is always an option. Air Slash could be used for a STAB boost, but it doesn't cover anything extra than you already have.

Aye, flamethrower is the way to go. I always get cheated by accuracy when I need it the most.
Why commenting on an old Q? Read the rules....
JCM, it is fine to comment on the moveset questions, seeing as they are always in use.
Damn it O.O
Trachy, i did that on at least 70 Q's!
I thought it was ok...
@Giga same here, I always use hyper beam on my PorygonZ and it misses D:

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze (Tough Claws)
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 Atk / 4 HP
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Claw/Outrage
- Earthquake

You know how just frickin epic Ash Charizard was? Then you realised Ash isn't very good with Pokemon and Charizard really wasn't very good due to its underwhelming stats and Stealth Rock weakness? Well, it is finally time for revenge.
Behold, the harbinger of ultimate destruction. With its monstrous attack, great speed and sweet new Ability, this slick dragon is dressed to the nines to kill. As of now this set have no tier since the Gen 6 tiers haven't been established yet, but seeing this from Gen 5s perspective, this will be a force to be reckoned with.
The strategy is simple, send out as fast as possible and transform into Mega Charizard X, set up a Dragon Dance, then sweep to your hearts content.
Dragon Dance is the key to make this work. Fire, Ground and Dragon gives perfect coverage in UU and solid cover in OU, and a single DD allows it to outspeed anything unscarfed in both tiers. The sheer power is enough to demolish most things even dedicated to stoping it.

Let’s not talk about Ash.
whats UU, OU, and DD?
UU and OU are tiers in Pokemon. UU is UnderUsed and OU is OverUsed. For more info I recommend going to smogon or bulbapedia or a site like that. DD stands for Dragon Dance. Some moves are shortened and referred to that way such as EQ for Earthquake, Rocks for Stealh Rocks, etc.

Gen V

Charizard (M) @ Petaya Berry

Trait: Blaze

EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Flamethrower
  • Hidden Power [Grass]
  • Dragon Pulse
  • Substitute

Okay, I love this set. I use it also on a team that gets Agility boosts passed from a Durant, but this works well even without that. Okay you use Substitute three times, which will then activate your Petaya Berry and also Blaze. This will leave you with an incredibly powerful Flamethrower, plus a nicely powered HP Grass and Dragon Pulse, which are there for coverage. It is a great Pokemon, and I use this set for my Charizard. You've probably had to face this guy before.

Death Dragon!

Nature: Timid
Item: Leftovers/Salac-berry
Ability: Solar-power
EVs: 252 S.attack, 252 Speed, 6 Hp

Flamethrower is more reliable but Heat-wave has that little extra bit of power Fire-blast is very strong but it is very inaccurate I would just go with Flamethrower. Dragon-pulse has great neutral coverage and the only things that resist it are steel types which are weak to fire moves. Solar-beam provides coverage against his weaknesses and has insane power. Air-slash is for STAB and Flinch, HP(Ground) covers his Electric type weakness, Sunny-day is there for if he is not on a drought team. Leftovers heals off Solar-power damage though the Salac-berry is another option for some speed.

Edit by J98: Added sprite since old one was from an expired site and wasn't showing.

Doubles Mega-Charizard Y

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Solar Power/Blaze
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid/Modest Nature
- Heat Wave
- Air Slash
- Protect
- Focus Blast/Solar Beam

With weather being nerfed weather mons do best as offensive threats rather than support, and charizard can fulfill that role to the fullest, especially in tandem with a chlorophyll sweeping partner. *Solar Power is used over blaze as it is recommended that another sun setter be used in tandem with charizard as to ensure maximum power, but if that is not the case then Blaze is the better choice.

Mega Charizard Y has the ability Drought.

VCG Charizard

Charizard (M)@Charizardite X
enter image description here
Ability: Tough Claws
EVs:252 Spd, 174 Hp, 62 Atk, 20 Def
Nature: Jolly

-Dragon Dance (great set-up move)
-Roost (reliable recovery)
-Outrage (Powerful STAB attack)
-Earthquake (IT'S EARTHQUAKE, nuf said)

The Hp invetment let's him live a HUGE amount of hits, while powerful attacks provide massive damage. Roost alows for relible recovery, useful in VCG for a set without Protect. This set is to used mostly as an M-Salamence counter, though anything switching into an Outrage (unless its a fairy) or Earthquake (unless they are flying or have Levitate) will loose a decent chunk of health.

Hate to make anyone upset, but I have some movesets for the "Beast Beast"

Fire Fang:If you insist on Flare Blitz,go ahead. But Flare Blitz is a move I truly hate.

Dragon Claw: Deals with those ever so powerful but commonly used Dragon type.
Hone Claws: Adds power to him.
Heat Wave/Inferno:Both powerful STABs, one with low accuracy and 100% burn, one with good accuracy and a 10% chance.
Air Slash: Good in lots of different points. No big reason really.
Dragon Dance: Get this by breeding. Need something to up that Sp. Attack!

D-Dance ups attack and speed not sp attack
Good luck with that accuracy on inferno..
lol Dragon Dance doesn't raise SpA it raises Atk!

Doubles / Triples

Charizard (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Heat Wave
- Air Cutter
- Ominous Wind
- Fire Blast

Heat Wave gives STAB and hits both opponents.
Air Cutter is STAB and hits both opponents.
Ominous wind is coverage and ( I think ) hits both opponents.
Fire Blast is STAB if you want to take the single approach.

Try this with sunny day in progress.

Charizard @ Choice Specs
Trait: Solar Power
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Pulse
- Solarbeam
- Hidden Power [Ground]

With his special attack reaching 712, it can take out almost any Pokemon. Just make sure you time his switch in properly!

I use mine with my metagross in double battles and destroy everyone in my path.
Item: Charti Berry to weaken the 4x damage of rock type moves.

Solarbeam-Type coverage and works well against those stupid water and rock types.Sunny day makes it much easier.

Sunny Day- good for solarbeam and powering up heat wave.
Heat wave- STAB, strong move that hits all Pokemon on the opposite team and none of yours.
dragon claw- Type coverage for those dragon types that always seem to know that rock type move.
