Where are the regions in Pokemon games actually modelled after in real life?

Its a very good question I'm sure, someone told me that the games are based on real life landmarks and such, if so where? My guess are Kanto/Johto=Japan, Hoenn seems like Hawaii, and Sinnoh looks an awful lot like California. Black and white take place far away from the other regions and it actually looks like NE United States. Anyway it would be really awesome to know.

When I saw those articles and pictures, my mind was blown. It also says that Unova is based on the New York Metropolitan area.
