No, nothing unusual will happen, except you will never see that Pikachu again. If you release it, even though it is back in the wild, Pikachu wil not populate Unova with more of it's kind, and so therefore nothing will happen, even though it does seem unusual that an unnative Pokemon can be released.

Source: Experience, common sence. The game is programmed this way.

I think the game should be like this, but it's still weird that even if you release 1,000,000 Pikachu, you won't find a single one. +1.
i think they should be able to start populating the region i mean  pikachu  lay eggs every few seconds
so they would become common so  i wish it would work
Agreed. Technically, this is pretty silly; but on Game Freak's side, where would those Pikachu go? Relic Castle? Abundant Shrine? Route 9? The game would not be programmed to support such detailed info.
just a random place or all wild pokemon go to a speific place like in heartgold there is that place foer abandoned pokemon they could make a sort of adoption store like abandoned pokemon go there and then are randomly sent to a random game for adoption
This is especially silly since you CAN catch N's released Pokemon.  Precedence has been set!
