Pokemon Online vs. Pokemon Showdown

Okay, multiple times in chat there has been some arguments concerning this issue. It has come to my attention that some users want this site to solely use either Pokemon Online, or Pokemon Showdown. Countless times I have not been able to join tournaments because of this "Rule" that you can only join if you have Pokemon Online. This rule is completely unfair to users like myself that cannot download Pokemon Online for whatever reason. I am not against Pokemon Online, I just think that BOTH Pokemon Online, and Pokemon Showdown should be allowed in Tournaments, the DB League ect. As far as I know, the only users who are against Pokemon Showdown are.. Ninja & Blobyolo. The "creators" of the league. Two people in the league who don't allow Pokemon Showdown. As far as I'm concerned, gym leaders need to be willing to be flexible, otherwise they have no reason on being a gym leader. The DB league was built for users enjoyment, not for only the "select users with Pokemon Online."

During my time here on the DB, I have only been able to join 2 Tournaments (Wifi tournament, and currently Mew's 6 Letter word tournament.) Where as users with Pokemon online can join them all because they have Pokemon Online. I don't think it-s fair that users who have Pokemon Online get "more privileges" than user's who do not.

In the DB League, one of the "rules" is "If you are a challenger and only have Showdown, and a leader like Ninja has PO, too bad. You do not skip the gym, you stay until you get it." How are you going to force someone into getting Pokemon Online just to "pass" your gym? That is very unfair for users who use Pokemon Showdown. Furthermore, I have been told that I could not join the league unless you have Pokemon Online. If that is the case, how come Speed Freak (who only uses Pokemon Showdown) Gets to be in the league? (Just because he's a mod and I'm not?) < This is just an example, I don't care that he can be in "and I can't" I'm just using this to prove a point.

Lastly, I have been told that "we do not allow" both Pokemon Online and Pokemon Showdown "because it causes confusion" WHAT CONFUSION?! Does more options equate to more confusion? It's really not that difficult. It gives you the option of which is more convenient at that moment in time for you and your challenger to battle. This just finally gives user who don't use Pokemon Online equal opportunities. Also, currently in Mew's Six Letter Word Tournament, he allows both Pokemon Online AND Pokemon Showdown, and there hasn't been any "confusion."

Yes, Pokemon Showdown can be laggy at time, you can get disconnected, ect. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't be allowed. If Pokemon Showdown was as bad as certain users try to make it out to be, do you really think Smogon (who's official server has been Pokemon Online for years) would partner with them?

Here are the links to Pokemon Showdown Servers

Basically, all I'm asking for are equal privileges for both Pokemon Online users, and Pokemon Showdown users. I have talked to many users who support this idea, and they far outnumber the users who do not want this.

Showdown has been underestimated. I
they aren't the same :[ i don't understand how you can stare at a dumb  rotom sitting there but if its dancing its more entertaining. If it weren't for there dance i would like them equally
I can't use Pokemon online, it dosen't work for iPad and I don't have a comp. but showdown works for iPad.
Riles, did you select "Email me (----@---.com) if my question is answered/comented on" ?
Lol, that would annoy u to hell, wouldn't it?
I mean 41 + 6 or 7 comments = about 50 emails on the same question... :P
Wow, I agree.

I feel I can answer this, as I believe I have a fair solution to all this, as well as tremendous power.

I hope you'll find my solution to this fair. Also unbiased, seeing as I am argueing for the allowance of Showdown despite my preference for PO.

For those users who can get both Showdown and PO, you'll try to agree on which one to use in regards to tournaments. If you can't decide, have another user flip a coin and whoever calls it gets to choose the platform. If for the Pokemon League, the preference of the Leader takes precedence over the preference of the challenger, meaning if I was challenging Spoink, who can use both PO and Showdown, he would have to use PO because that is my preference for battling.

Okay, easy there right, don't even think I needed to say that above part. Now here's where I can get some complaints.

We should allow both PO and Showdown in tournaments, so that we do not exclude users. If a person with just Showdown is matched vs a person with just PO, we'll swap the users around to fix that problem easily.

Now for the League. If Gym Leaders can use Showdown and PO, please do if the challenger has only one of those available to them. The league is made partly for the enjoyment of the users, and the other part is to give them a challenge. All of it is for the users. Who are we to deny users of this?

If a Gym Leader cannot use PO or Showdown and the challenger can't use the one that the Gym Leader has access to, there are two choices you should take. The first is to give a default badge, as is the case of blob. The second and more preferable choice is to have a part-time leader take over for that battle. Ninja, for you this is incredibly easy, as my brother is willing to use Showdown to battle people. He can just take on both parts of the 7th Gym.

For Elite 4 members though, things are different. We can't just take on part-time E4, as that greatly reduces the challenge of the Elite 4. Elite 4 members do take precedence. So if you only have access to PO and are at Speed Freak, you best hope that Mew ends up beating Speed Freak for his spot, because you aren't going anywhere.

As for those of you who have access to both while your challenger has access to one, just suck it up and do that battle with them. Making a Showdown account takes all of two minutes at the most. As for team-making, you get the import feature, and if it doesn't work you still have your PO team right there in front of you, so you can just manually put in anything missing. Takes all of five minutes there. Seven minutes of your life and you got to make this site more enjoyable for other people. Fair trade.

So yes, I say allow both PO and Showdown, but with these parameters. And considering the powers I wield, this is how it is going to be unless Pokemaster chooses to overide my descision for some reason, or if it turns out that I'm unknowingly being unfair to any user. If the second case, I'll try to fix that, so feel free to comment about anything (related to this, I don't care if your cat had babies... Okay, yes I do, send me pictures. So comment only on stuff related to this, or pictures of baby cats.)

And I do want you to comment on this. Both Showdown and PO have disconnect problems. I was wondering if people would think it fair that if the Gym Leader/E4 member has a four Pokemon lead over you and the service disconnects, then the battle falls under the favor of the Gym Leader/E4 instead of a rematch?

I completely agree with trachy... Baby cats are so cute! Oh and also about the main part of the answer XD. So that is 2 Mods and an Editor who agree, and I am positive Mike will agree with this too so that will be 3 Mods.
I agree, and I'm an editor pending on mod status xD
thanks for clearing things up, trachy
Thanks trachy. And Trent. As my apology to being a dick to everyone, I need to set up Showdown.
