Mienshao or Hitmonlee? Also team suggestions for current UU team?

2 votes

At the moment I use Hitmonlee on my team. However, Mienshao is also looking good.

Hitmonlee (M) @ Normal Gem
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 172 SDef / 84 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Fake Out
  • Close Combat
  • Stone Edge
  • Bullet Punch

Now then, the strategy here is to use Fake Out right away and get rid of that Normal Gem so I can use Unburden. This is a really great strategy, because only Pokemon with Inner Focus would be able to attack Hitmonlee still. So this technically makes Hitmonlee have 462 Speed, which is really powerful when combined with that attack stat. Close Combat is mre reliable than Hi Jump Kck, and since I'm not using Reckless, Close Combat is better. Stone Edge provides type coverage. Bullet Punch is there for priority.

My Mienshao would be:

Mienshao (F) @ Life Orb
Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

  • Fake Out
  • Hi Jump Kick
  • U-turn
  • Stone Edge

Not much of a difference as you can see. These two are very similar. However, Mienshao has a tiny bit higher attack. But it has lower Speed when taking into account Unburden. It does gain the ability Regenerator though. Hi Jump Kick's recoil is negligible when Regenerator is taken into account. U-Turn allows for damage, and switching out for REgenerator healing.

So, what do you guys think? Mienshao or Hitmonlee? To help, here is the rest of my team:

Roserade (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Giga Drain
  • Toxic Spikes
  • Venoshock
  • Shadow Ball

Feraligatr (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)

  • Dragon Dance
  • Rock Slide
  • Waterfall
  • Ice Punch

Charizard (M) @ Petaya Berry
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Flamethrower

    • Hidden Power [Grass]
    • Dragon Pulse
    • Substitute

Galvantula (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Compoundeyes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Thunder
  • Bug Buzz
  • Energy Ball
  • Hidden Power [Ice]

Dusclops (F) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)

  • Pain Split
  • Night Shade
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Confuse Ray

Also if you would please suggest improvements for this UU team, taking into account your choice of Hitmonlee and Mienshao.

I'm gonna go with Hitmonlee. You can't go wrong with that combo and he has some great moves. The only problem I see is that he'd lose the speed boost when he is switched out.

I am a big fan of Mienshao this generation as you know. The current set I run is Hi Jump Kick, Acrobatics, Stone-Edge and U-Turn, usually with a Sitrus Berry.

I do like your strategy on Hitmonlee, but the problem I see is you lose that speed boost when you switch out. Also, when your speed is boosted Bullet Punch isn't all that useful (plus Steel doesn't get a huge amount of coverage). Perhaps a better strategy would be to stay in and go down fighting with your speed boost. In this case, switch out Bullet Punch for Pursuit to cover Psychic weakness.

The Fake Out + Gem strategy could work on Mienshao to be honest - item gets used and Acrobatics gets more power. Problem with that is you have to lose either U-Turn or Stone Edge which are both great moves.

Personally I would keep Stone Edge to cover flying weakness and just manually switch out when needed. Since you recover HP you don't lose too much.

Rest of the team looks pretty solid! Think I might steal your Feraligatr set ;)

You should make this best answer, trachy. =)
Yeah, this is a great answer. I'll just wait for any other answers to come in, and then I'll probably give this best answer.
@excadrill, give it a little time. Other people might want to post good answers too!

Okay this probaly isnt as good as pokemaster but at the moment I like hitmonlees moveset but can you teach hitmonlee acrobatics that would make the most of you using fake out and getting rid of its gem replace it with bullet punch because like pokemaster said bullet punch doesnt cover anything and umburden boost your speed. For mienshao you should put acrobatics on it and make it hold a flying gem.
