Hey there. So Ruoppster told me to make an RU team so we could battle, and I did. It's my first time playing RU, and I guess it wasn't that good. His stupid stall team destroyed me (ban trick room!), sooo I battled with it for a while on PO and made some improvements. It's an okay team I guess. I try to slowly wear down my opponent's team, then when I see an opportunity, set up and sweep. It doesn't have much of a defensive core apart from Uxie but the synergy is pretty good so I can usually take hits. Well, let's do it :]
@ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 120 Def / 136 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Stealth Rock
- Yawn
- U-turn
- Magic Coat
Uxie is a great 'mon. She sets up Stealth Rock for my team, essential for wearing down Fire and Flying types, and breaking Focus Sashes of any pokemon that comes in. Yawn and U-turn is a combo that I recently discovered - it's fantastic. You use Yawn, and the opponent becomes drowsy. Then you use U-turn. If they stay in, they get a pokemon put to sleep, allowing me to set up with any of my sweepers. If they switch out, I get free momentum, allowing me to scout and switch to a counter. Magic Coat is situational, but I've found it more useful than any other move I've used. I can bounce back Taunt, which shuts me down, as well as entry hazards and status moves.
@ White Herb
Trait: Weak Armor
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SDef
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
I've always liked Omastar, he looks awesome. This is a basic Shell Smash sweeper - I can set up on a pokemon I force out, reaching +2 SAtk and +2 Spd in just one turn. I can then go for a sweep. Surf is my STAB move, as at over 600 special attack, the extra power of Hydro Pump isn't really needed. Ice Beam destroys bulky Grass types like Tangrowth. I just chose Earth Power in the last slot because it looks cool, but at least it hits Water types neutrally.
@ Flying Gem
Trait: Unburden
EVs: 160 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Leaf Blade
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
Sceptile, my second sweeper. Swords Dance is my setup move, boosting my attack. Leaf Blade is STAB, and hits quite hard. Here's the good part. Acrobatics activates my Flying Gem, which powers up the move as well as activating my ability, Unburden. This doubles my speed, letting me outspeed the whole tier. Finally, Earthquake takes down Steel types that wall me.
@ Life Orb
Trait: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
Nidoqueen is amazingly powerful in RU (so powerful it might get banned lol). Thanks to her new ability Sheer Force, she gets a 30% boost to most of her attacks, while being able to abuse a recoil free Life Orb. She can rip holes in the walls that my other team members can have trouble with. Earth Power and Sludge Wave are my STAB attacks. Focus Blast hits Clefable, while having good neutral coverage. Ice Beam hits the many flying and ground types in RU.
@ Life Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Pain Split
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
SubSplit Rotom. People that have battled me will know how annoying this thing is. I can come in on a resisted hit or immunity (Rotom's typing and ability means there are lots of them) and set up a Substitute. I can fire away with Life Orb as much as I want, and then when I'm low on health, just Pain Split back up. Rotom's low base HP means it takes a big chunk out of most walls. He can also block Rapid Spin, which is always nice.
@ Choice Scarf
Trait: Vital Spirit
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 Def
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Punishment
- U-turn
Primeape isn't the best Fighting type in RU, but he has the ideal build for a Choice Scarf user. High speed and access to U-turn means he can effectively scout switch ins. Close Combat, the amazing STAB move, allows me to revenge kill and the defense drops don't matter as I am more hit-and-run. Ice Punch hits Flying types, as well as bulky Grass/Poisons (Amoonguss anyone?). Punishment isn't a coverage move I enjoy having, but at least it hits Nasty Plot and Calm Mind Cofagrigus for some damage.
