What determines what shop people you connect to (C-Gear, Union Room) are going to open in Join Avenue ?

I think it's what they are on their trainer card(ex:Hiker,Scientist,etc.)

I really can't explain it depends on what the game programed the character to say or to be. I am just really guessing. I though what you thought untill a little child became a wheight trainer...

According to serebii

The shop that the player makes is dependant on a random number generated by their Trainer ID and the items they sell depend upon the game upon which they connected with you.

But thats just serebii/
