Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
- Knock Off

Yes, I realize this set doesn't have any STAB moves. Stealth Rock is just setting up hazards, Thunder Wave and Leech Seed are good moves to cripple your opponent while you set up your hazards. I like to run Knock Off because it can potentially get rid of dangerous sweeper's items. You can run Power Whip or Gyro Ball in its place though, and get rid of Thunder Wave if necessary.

Ferrothorn @ Occa Berry
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 164 Atk / 252 Def / 88 SpD
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Iron Defense
- Gyro Ball / Iron Head
- Leech Seed

Stealth Rock pokes out defensive Pokemon like Chansey, Blissey, and Pokemon with Sturdy. Iron Defence, Occa Berry, and Leech Seed help Ferrothorn survive attacks.

This Ferrothorn can't do anything to Fire-types, so Occa Berry is a bit pointless. Leftovers offers far more value if the goal is suitability.
You also can make a more defensively sound EV spread by involving HP points.

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
Brave Nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 122 Def / 130 SpD
- Curse
- Gyro Ball
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip

Ferrothorn's Gyro Ball is just awesome! Start by using Curse to raise Attack and Defense and to lower Speed to raise power for Gyro Ball. Next, unleash the secret weapon : Gyro Ball!! Do NOT replace Gyro Ball with Iron Head. Even if you think Iron Head is more powerful, it's not. I've used Curse then Gyro Ball on my Ferrothorn and it KO'd a Noivern and a Kangaskhan. Leech Seed is just to stack HP with Leftovers and Power Whip is for STAB.

Nobody used this exact set (some were really close) that I really like to use on Ferrothorn, but here it is.
Ferrothorn
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Relaxed / Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Leech Seed / Ingrain
- Curse
- Gyro Ball

Spikes- for entry hazards
Leech Seed / Ingrain- recovery
Curse- raises Defense so Iron Barbs + Rocky Helmet can last longer and boosts...
Gyro Ball- take advantage of Curse and Ferrothorn’s low base Speed for huge amounts of damage

(with Rocky Helmet and Iron Barbs, contact moves get 25% of their max HP taken away!)

Hope I helped!

Ferrothorn (M) @ Macho Brace
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Curse
- Gyro Ball
- Ingrain / another healing or damaging move
- Leech Seed / another healing or damaging move

Description: Use Ingrain and/or Leech Seed for guaranteed healing. Use the Curse until you feel ready to attack, next use Gyro Ball because your Ferrothorn's Speed is now very very low and your attack/defense is boosted. (The Macho Brace will lower your Speed too) You can use a Smeargle with Trick Room, Spore, and other moves that you can choose (the Smeargle strategy isn't tested, so I can't be sure than Trick
Room will not affect Gyro Ball's power. The Smeargle strategy works better in 2v2 battles.).

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Ingrain
- Protect
- Rollout

Leech Seed + Ingrain + Leftovers = 1/4 of HP healed at the end of each turn. I figure with Ferrothorn's amazing Defences you would be able to get the chance to use those moves. Use protect for a free heal.
Rollout is to get rid of any annoying Fire-types and to do damage.

Time to get funky!
Physically Defensive Staller

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Toxic

Just set up your hazards and leech seed, then spam toxic! When they hit you physically, they will take twice the damage thanks to your ability and item. Take advantage of everything you've got!

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Def / 156 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Ingrain
- Leech Seed
- Spikes
- Gyro Ball / Explosion

Ingrain-helps to stop flying types from not being affected by ground type moves and restores a bit of health which is a nice combo with leech seed to gain that extra bit of health.
Leech Seed-Takes the Pokemon's and helps to keep you high in health.
Spikes-It can do up to a quarter of the opponents health and makes a good pair with ingrain making it able to affect flying types.
Gyro ball/explosion-Gyro ball is good because Ferrothorn has very low speed stats, and explosion is good as it can do a lot of damage to the opponents Pokemon and is good in a pinch to help set up for the next Pokemon.

My first post so I hoped it helped.

This moveset can work particularly well against physical teams:

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 200 HP / 200 Atk / 108 SpD
Brave Nature
- Curse
- Rest
- Payback
- Gyro Ball

  • Curse (boost Atk and Def, lowers Speed)
  • Rest (complete recovery, allows you to go +6 with curse without getting your healt compromised)
  • Payback (hit last thanks to low speed and does x2 damage)
  • Gyro Ball (also boosted by low speed)

Role: Physical Tank

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Gyro Ball
- Body Press
- Curse / Iron Defense
- Seed Bomb / Power Whip

Gyro Ball (Lv. 49 or TR52): STAB. With Ferrothorn having really low speed, it should do some serious damage
Body Press (TR99): Ferrothorn has really good Defense, so this also should do some serious damage
Curse (Lv.43) or Iron Defense (Lv.35 or TR46): Curse Lowers Ferrothorn's Speed (which means Gyro Ball does more damage) and increases Both Attack and Defense. If you want, you could use Iron Defense instead, so Body Press does more damage, but I don't recommend using it. Curse is definitely the best.
Seed Bomb (TR59) or Power Whip [Evolution (Lv.40) or TR72]: STAB. Power Whip is more powerful (BP of 120) but only has 85% accuracy. Seed Bomb has a BP of 80 and has 100% accuracy. It really just depends on what you like. Accuracy or Power.

Role: Suicide Set-Up

Ferrothorn @ Normal Gem
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Brave Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Leech Seed
- Explosion

Stealth Rock (TR76): Set up number 1. Deals more damage depending on how effective rock type moves are.
Spikes (TR23): Set up number 2. Deals damage to all Pokemon except a few like Flying types of Pokemon with Levitate to name a few.
Leech Seed (Egg move): Set up number 3. Once you use the next move, the next Pokemon will start stealing HP! Until you kill it of course.
If you can't get Leech Seed, then use a move like Sandstorm or Sunny Day. Those both can really work well with a team.
Explosion (Lv.56): Boosted by Normal Gem. With the Normal Gem, it should have a base power of 375.

This set was recommended for me by ~MegaCharizardY~.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet / Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 24 Atk / 84 Def / 148 SpD
Careful Nature
- Knock Off
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Iron Head

The Rocky Helmet set deals quite a bit of damage to physical attackers. Leftovers is good when coupled with Leech Seed, as it gains back even more HP that way. On the Rocky Helmet set, it's your only way of recovery. Knock Off is great for dealing with Pokemon that rely heavily on items. Stealth Rock is good if hazards ever need to be set down. Iron Head is good STAB, and it provides a counter to Fairy types.

Gyro Ball is better than iron head due to its super low speed

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers / Rocky Helmet (more hp gain or doing damage to those direct contact move users)
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed / Ingrain
- Gyro Ball / Power Whip / Protect / Explosion

  • Spikes (hazards)
  • Stealth Rock (hazards)
  • Leech Seed / Ingrain (regen while setting up hazards)
  • Gyro Ball / Power Whip / Protect / Explosion (gyro ball and power whip to not be taunt bait, protect if you want to stall for more hp every other turn, and explosion if you are running ingrain)

For best results with stealth rock, have a speedy Pokemon with Whirlwind
Ferrothorn @ Occa Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Leech Seed / Giga Drain
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock / Spikes

Leech Seed saps Pokemon's life away for a few turns, which helps if you do not have the Leftovers item, Giga Drain is not the best choice since Ferrothorn's Special Attack is really bad, but it works decently in Showdown! Including the fact that this Pokemon is extremely bulky, Gyro Ball for the fact that it is slower then most Pokemon (except for eg. Torkoal, Hatterene), Power Whip is an extremely powerful move but only with 85% accuracy, Stealth Rock works well with Whirlwind so that all of the oppoment's Pokemon keep taking damage, Spikes have a disavantage of not affecting flying types so I think Stealth Rock would be better.

I've hoped I've helped!

Might not be the best of movesets, and I know this is like the fifth Gyro-Curse moveset posted, but here it goes:

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Gyro Ball
- Curse
- Bulldoze
- Body Press

Gyro Ball is STAB, and good with Ferrothorn's low speed. Curse is a good setup move and lowers speed to buff Gyro Ball even further. Bulldoze is good coverage for fire, electric, and steel types that resist steel and would make Gyro Ball not as good (Bulldoze lowers speed but you wouldn't be using Gyro Ball on those types anyway). Body Press is more coverage and takes advantage of Ferrothorn's massive defense.

The main flaw with this moveset is Water-Flying types (that's Gyarados, Mantine, Pelipper, Swanna, and Cramorant). I'm not sure how much these mons see play (I mostly play UU, and can't use Ferrothorn), but running into one would be very messy.

If you think that this moveset sucks, tell me.

You won't want Bulldoze. It'll lower the opponent's Speed, which isn't very great combined with Gyro Ball.
Bulldoze would only see use against types that resist steel (fire in particular) and those are the ones that you wouldn't be using Gyro Ball on anyway (I'd think at least)
All right then.

Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 128 Atk / 128 Def / 252 SpD
Brave Nature
- Gyro Ball
- Curse
- Power Whip
- Stealth Rock

Explanation: Curse cuts down Speed but raises Attack and Defense in return, which is a pretty good trade-off for Ferrothorn. With its Speed-reducing nature and its sad base stat with a grand total of 20 for its Speed, this guarantees that Gyro Ball will deal as much damage as possible. It also gets STAB as well. I prefer it over Iron Head since its BP can reach 150, which is nearly twice that of Iron Head. It can mean a difference between a OHKO or a 2HK, perhaps even more. The flinching chance just isn't worth it since Ferrothorn is almost guaranteed to always attack last. Furthermore, from Curse, with Ferrothorn's already awesome Defense up, I choose to invest more EVs in its slightly lower SDef to make up for it so its stats will be more balanced. Power Whip is STAB and high power, despite its relatively lower accuracy compared to Seed Bomb. Again, that difference in 40 BP can mean a OHKO or a 2HKO, perhaps even more. Stealth Rock is just an awesome move, that deals damage based on its TYPE. Rock is strong against Flying, Bug, Fire and Ice so, say, a Charizard switching in gets its HP cuts in half, immediately! However, Pokemon like Lucario (Steel, Fighting) will take minimal damage, only about 1/32 of their HP. It's still a pretty good move though. I prefer it over Spikes since to make Spikes more worth it, you have to stack them up for three turns, which just isn't worth it in my opinion.

Gen 8 SS Monotype Defensive Utility (Steel)

Ferrothorn @ Chople Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 SpD
Impish Nature
- Power Whip
- Thunder Wave / Knock Off
- Leech Seed
- Spikes / Stealth Rock / Protect

Ferrothorn's Grass/Steel typing is useful to help with the Water and Ground matchup for Steel teams. Ferrothorn uses Power Whip to smack Water- and Ground-types such as Swampert, Seismitoad, Tapu Fini, Gastrodon, and Urshifu Rapid-Strike. Thunder Wave allows Ferrothorn to slow down fast Pokemon switching in such as Volcarona, Hydreigon, Galarian Moltres, Blacephalon, and Victini. Knock Off can be used instead to cripple opposing Pokemon by removing their items. Leech Seed provides Ferrothorn with HP recovery while slowly stealing HP from opposing Pokemon. Spikes allows you to setup a hazard for grounded Pokemon not wearing Heavy-Duty Boots and is used if you have a teammate already using Stealth Rock. Stealth Rock is used if you don't have a teammate that's using Stealth Rock. Protect can be used instead to scout opposing Pokemon and allows for a free turn of HP recovery if you use Leftovers for this set.

252 HP EVs are used to give Ferrothorn "bulk" for both its defense and special defense stats. 112 Special Defense EVs turn a possible 2HKO from Choice Specs Hydro Pump Kingdra in the Rain into a 3HKO if you use Chople Berry as the item. The leftover EVs along with Impish Nature lets you take physical moves better. Chople Berry lets you survive a Choice Band Close Combat from Urshifu Rapid-Strike and OHKO it due to the -1 defense drop as long as you have some sort of hazard on the opponent's side. If you use Leftovers on this set, the EV spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD with Impish Nature is fine.

Ferrothorn @ Left Overs
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpDef
Sassy Nature
- Power Whip
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rocks / Knock Off
- Leech seed / Protect

Sassy nature for Gyro ball to be more efficient.
Power Whips is a great STAB
Gyro ball is a good STAB
Stealth rocks for setup
Leech seed with left overs help Ferrothorn survive longer.
Knock off is great for getting rid of opponent's items and protect is to secure heal from leftovers.

I'm thinking
Nature: Relaxed (+def -spd)
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: Def and Attack
Item: Rocky Helmet
-Curse
-Gyro Ball
-Stealth Rocks
-Sucker Punch/ Bulldoze/ Payback

If you are using it for double battles I would go with Bulldoze and pair it with a Trick Roomer but if not Sucker Punch or Payback will really start to hurt after a couple Curses

by
Ferrothorn can't get Sucker Punch.
