Likely tier: Underused
"Likely tier: Underused" 6 months later...
Real Tier Overused 6 months even later....
And Uber even later!
Meh. It wouldn't be there if not for Sand Rush. I use a Mold Breaker Scarf Set.

A Pokemon that I have considered for my main team, although its typing would leave me to have too many like weaknesses, meaning it was out of consideration at that point. It also has surprisingly poor defensive stats for a Steel type.

Ability: Sand Throw

EVs: Speed, Attack, HP Nature: Jolly

Sandstorm: While the damage to the foe is nice, the main point of this is to increase Speed. While it has decent Speed, most foes will still be abl to outrun it without Sand Throw.

Swords Dance: Allows for an attack increase also.

Earthquake: STAB. Incredible move.

Rock Slide: Useful to have the flinch, due to this guy usually being able to go first.

Excadrill (M) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Sand Force or Sand Rush
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Hone Claws
- Drill Run
- Rock Slide
- Metal Claw

Most of the time you can get away with running Sand force and fake your opponent into thinking you have Sand Rush.

All moves benefit with either ability. Hone Claws jacks your attack from the start and fixes all of your accuracy issues. Drill run gets STAB and a good crit chance. that crit chance is probably the only reason you would ever consider running it over earthquake. ( excluding the fact that drill run has a cool animation and it's excadrill's signature )

rock slide is coverage. Metal Claw is STAB and a decent chance to boost your attack. between STAB and Sand Force is can actually do some decent damage too!

Excadrill
@ Smooth Rock/Expert Belt
Ability: Sand Rush
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Earthquake
Sandstorm
Swords Dance
Shadow Claw

Earthquake is pretty predictable, but that does not stop it from being a powerful move with 100 accuracy.
Sandstorm is to raise speed, you can opt for Smooth Rock to make it last if you want.
Swords Dance is practically icing on the cake, and Shadow Claw hits those Ghosties in the Uber Teir(I'm looking at you, Giratina).
Expert Belt adds more juice to Super Effective moves.

Here is what I think: Ability: Sand Rush
Item: Earth plate

Earthquake-Strongest ground type move and STAB
Rock slide-Deals with flying types and some others too
Sandstorm-Because of its ability Sand Rush
Swords Dance-It can raise its attack which can be very helpful

Hey,
I think that Excadrill is a great choice for your team, and you should keep it to help in the Elite Four. Here is a moveset that I think is the best for Excadrill:

Fissure PP. 5

Drill run PP. 5

Horn drill PP. 10

Sandstorm PP. 10

Fissure is a great move, but usually only works on slower Pokemon. Sandstorm is a great move also, and it does damage to your enemy. It also boosts your speed stat IF you have the ability Sand Rush, but if you have Sand Force ability, then it raises the power of Rock, Steel, and Ground types by 30%. Drill Run and Horn Drill are also good moves, seeing as that they are powerful in themselves.

Hope this helped!

excadrill@life orb
ability:sand rush
nature: jolly
ev-252 atk 252 speed 4 hp
moves- sandstorm-upgrades speed with sand rush, 50% increase in sp.def and takes advantage of ground typing
earthquake- main STAB, 100 base power
rock slide- takes care of pesky flying types that are immune to earthquake
swords dance- makes excadrill destroy any Pokemon not immune to its attacks
