Meta Battle Subway PokeBase - Pokemon Q&A

What is a good moveset for Quagsire?

1 vote

I just got it in a trade and it has a horrible moveset. It knows:

Muddy Water: STAB, good power, good chance to decrease accuracy.

Waterfall: Decent chance to cause flinching, good damage, high accuracy, STAB, makes use of Quagsire's higher Attack stat.

Water Pulse: Decent power, high accuracy, STAB, decent chance to confuse.

Water Gun: STAB, high accuracy.

Yes, it's horrible one
I know, all water type moves. Also, it knows Water Gun! Who teaches a Pokemon Water Gun?!?
Quagsire (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 136 SDef
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Stockpile
- Earthquake
- Waterfall

He should have the following:

Waterfall-His attack is higher than his Special attack

Earthquake-good move, high accuracy, STAB bonus

Ice beam/Ice punch- To cover grass weakness (This one isn't completely necessary as quagsire can outspeed very few grass types, and most pokemon are non grass types armed with moves like grass knot and energy ball.)

Curse-If you wish to boost his stats, His speed isn't going to help him much anayway.

I wish it could learn Avalanche. I'll take Ice Punch, due to higher attack.
Not Ice Beam. Ice Punch is far more effective with Quaggy. Use an Ice Beam TM on Octillery or something with decent Sp. Atk.

Gen V

Quagsire (M) @ Leftovers

Ability: Unaware (DW)

Relaxed or Impish nature

  • Swagger
  • Toxic
  • Protect
  • Amnesia/Waterfall

With the Unaware ability u can keep on using swagger but it will still do the same damage to u. Which stops sweeping. And when your opponent gets hit by confusion it will do lots of damage to itself.

I wouldn't suggest Quagsire as a Toxic/Protect Pokémon. Its defense is decent, but there are better choices out there than it.

Quagsire @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP/ 192 SDef/ 64 Def
Nature: Careful

-Stockpile/Waterfall
-Recover
-Infestation
-Toxic

Toxic works well with Infestation and Stockpile is for the lack of Defense EVs. You can switch Stockpile with Amnesia but if you do I would recommend switching the Defense and Special Defense EVs for obvious reasons. you can also switch Stockpile for Waterfall and use this EV spread if you want to sweep a little: 252 HP/ 188 SDef/ 60 Def/ 4 Atk.

Nature Adamant Evs 252 attack, 252hp, 4def

Waterfall(STAB)

E-quake(STAB)

Ice punch(Coverage)

Amensia(Boosts pathetic S.def)

You could switch Amensia with Curse for more offense and defense

What about replacing Waterfall with Aqua Tail?

My Quagsire:

  • Brick Break
  • Waterfall
  • Yawn
  • Dig

Ability: Water Absorb
Holding: Leftovers

Want to replace Brick Break for Curse one of these days.

Sir Quag I. IV Gen

Brave Nature
EV trained in Hp and Sp.Def
Water Absorb Ability
Leftovers Held item

Dive: STAB, pretty good after you use Curse and a way to avoid damage.
Curse: Defence and Attack power up. (Also a speed boost if used in the right team)
Amneisia: For some even more bulk.
Yawn: So you get to do all this with out the foe attacking.

Since it doesn't get Recover 'till Gen V, I use him in double battles and take advantage of moves like Surf to heal him.

Quagsire rules. I use this set for it and it annoys to no end.
Quagsire@Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
Investments: HP, Both offenses
Scald
Earthquake
Stockpile
Recover
Scald is for STAB and for causing burn. Earthquake is another STAB and gets good coverage. Stockpile is for raising its defenses, and once you can set those up, you can recover that damage off. Hope this helped.

For those who saw my last post on here, I've been experimenting a lot, and I've changed my strategy since.

For me there's basically three different ways to use Quagsire:

-Double Battle attacking:
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Water Absorb
Item: Rindo Berry
-Earthquake
-Waterfall
-Ice Punch
-Stone Edge

-Stall/Countering:
Nature: Relaxed or Impish
Ability: Water Absorb or Unaware
Item: Rocky Helmet
-Counter
-Toxic
-Recover
-Earthquake or Waterfall

-HAHAHA STAT BOOSTS ARE USELESS NOW LOL:
Nature: Relaxed, Impish, Adamant, Brave, Sassy, or Careful
Ability: Unaware (most importantly)
Item: Rocky Helmet
-Waterfall
-Amnesia
-Curse
-Recover

PS - trachy is definitely right when he commented on my last post, but I still think Quagsire is more useful than Seismitoad

Gen VI

Quagsire
Ability: Water Absorb
Nature: Brave (+ Attack, -Speed)
Item: Water or Ground boosting Item
EVs: 252 Attack/ 252 HP/ 4 Defense

Moveset:
Waterfall: STAB, secondary power.
Earthquake: STAB, main power.
Ice Punch/Ice Beam: Ice Punch is the first choice, however it's very hard to get for Generation VI, substitute Ice Punch with Ice Beam. His special attack isn't that great but it's to try and repel his 4x weakness to Grass.
Recover: Heals half health, goes well with his high HP. I love healing moves too.

Never was a big fan of Quagsire, just not a big fan of his design.

This little fellow is quite easygoing indeed.

Beastly Quagsire:
He must be an Unaware, but Careful old chap who Loves to Eat.
If he wears an Assault Vest to cover up his shamefull Sp. Def , it will help protect him from projectiles.

Moves for Combat:

  • Yawn \ Swagger (makes the opponent with out if they're smart)
  • Curse (Speed already isn't in his favor, so "roll up you're sleeves" and fight)
  • Waterfall (deal some damage on that foe upon you)
  • Infestation \ Bulldoze (keep that fool in the battle, slowly killing him \ get back some Speed)

If you come out winning, give your ol' pal a pat on the back! Good job old bean!

Quagsire @ Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Defence/Sp.Def, 4 Attack
Nature: Relaxed/Sassy
Ability: Water Absorb/Unaware

Earthquake
Waterfall
Yawn
Haze/Curse

Yawn to sleep your opponent, or if they switch when you do this, switch loop them. Attack on the turn when they switch, if they have a flying type that has been in, waterfall as you know what's coming if you don't. If they stat boost baton pass to avoid sleep, use haze. I don't know what to call this set, an annoying sweeper, or an annoyer I'd say. Haze for Water Absorb, and Curse for Unaware.
Bear in mind, I use a TR team, so I chose speed lowering natures. If you aren't using a TR to make use of his low speed, use a sp.atk lowering one instead.

Swegsire @ Leftovers

enter image description here
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Def / 100 SDef (Physically Defensive) or 252 HP / 156 SDef / 100 Def (Specially Defensive)
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Recover
- Stockpile

This set won me games and saved me from getting swept numerous times. While it's a generic stall set, it's powerful nonetheless. Swegsire practically shuts down every buff sweeper (which are getting pretty common) with Unaware. Just keep this away from Grass types and anything with Mold Breaker or a similar ability
Scald is used over Waterfall so you can burn things like Aegislash and Scizor while still being able to hit Heatran. Toxic brings in the stall hammer that Swegsire does ever so well. Recover gives you the heals and gives your opponents the desire to ragequit. Stockpile lets you get up some OP defenses.
