PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I am currently hunting Snivy as my starter in Pokemon White. I've been hunting since May of 2023 with no luck.

I've seen on YouTube how long it's taking other people, and I've noticed a lot of them are over/way over odds. Are the odds for hunting a shiny starter in Pokemon B&W broken or are people's luck just that bad?

What methods are you using to hunt and how many Pokemon have you encountered? If you use no shiny chance modifiers, you'd need to encounter 5678 Pokemon to have a 50% chance of finding at least one shiny Pokemon.
The odds of getting a shiny starter Pokémon are 1/8192

The odds of a shiny starter is the same as normal, at 1/8192. However, you can perform the Masuda Method (breeding your Snivy with any Pokemon in its egg group which is from a different language game) for 1/682. You can find the daycare on the route after the first gym city.
