What is a good moveset for Omastar?

2 votes

Mine has the ability Swft Swim. Mine knows:

Rain Dance: Powers up water type attacks, increases Speed.

Surf: Powered up by Rain Dance, good power, high accuracy, STAB, used to deal with ground types.

Ice Beam: Good damage, high accuracy, chance to freeze, used to deal with Grass and Ground types.

Stone Edge: High power, good chance for critical hit, STAB.

For gen V, I'd say shell break takes away what makes Omastar Omastar. He's got nice defense, so he should function has a staller/tank. Scald is another option if you want to chance the burn.

Rain Dance can be replaced with a better move. Since you are only using 1 water attack, it isnt worth wasting a turn to use it.
Here are some good replacements: Mud Shot(for Electric weakness), Toxic might be good, because omaster has Amazing defense, against a physical pokemon(one who uses mostly physical moves), omaster can take enough hits for toxic to own the opponet.

Omastar can't learn earthquake... and He has better physical defense than special.
Alright, I see, sorry, but still, this is a pretty good moveset een without earthquake

Hail team set, even though I hate Hail.

Omastar @ Leftovers
Trait: Shell Armor
252 Def / 200 SAtk / 56 HP
- Atk + Def
AncientPower
Blizzard
Water Pulse
Earth Power/ Mud Shot

AncientPower is STAB, may boost the stats, and hits enemy Ice Types.
Blizzard: Won't miss in Hail, hits Grass Types.
Water Pulse: STAB, may confuse, hits Ground Types.
Earth Power/Mud Shot: Choose between power of Spd lowering, it hits Fire either way to support Ice Types on the team.

sorry poke' it's a bit hard to read, could you format it out a little bit better (i.e the way trachy has done it). Sorry, it looks like a good set but it's hard to read.
Sure, PX.

Gen V

Omastar (M) @ Focus Sash

Trait: Weak Armor

EVs: 36 HP / 252 SAtk / 220 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

  • Scald
  • Ice Beam
  • Shell Smash
  • Hidden Power [Rock]

Poor typing makes use as a wall not so favorable an option. As such, Shell Smash sweeper. Focus Sash lets you get in Shell Smash. Scald provides STAb and a good chance to burn, which is really nice. Ice Beam provides type coverage. HP Rock is the most powerful special Rock type STAB available to it. Since you'll be taking a hit when setting up with Shell Smash (most likely) Weak Armor should activate and give you a helpful Speed boost. Sweeper EVs.

Isn't AncientPower as strong as HP Rock? On top of that it has a chance to boost all stats...

Gen V Set for Omanyte

Omanyte (M) @ Eviolite

Trait: Shell Armor

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SDef

Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)

  • Toxic Spikes
  • Spikes
  • Knock Off
  • Protect

Set up your entry hazards, annoy your foe by removing their item, then lower their PP. Yeah, just another Pokemon I had a set for to test out use with Eviolite. Wall EVs, and Shell Armor protects from crits.

Omastar (M) @ Red Card

Role: Lead

Trait: Shell armor

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

  • Stealth Rock
  • Spikes
  • Toxic Spikes
  • Hydro Pump

Rocks, Spikes, and T-Spikes are all of the hazards. So Omastar sets up.
Then Hydro Pump is his STAB attempt.

I'd go with surf hydro pump has quite fail accuracy for me even in PO
Sucks for you, doesn't really fail for me. Plus, Surf won't do jack crap anyway, he needs the extra power consider he has only 4 Ev's in Special Attack.

Double/triple Battle

Omastar (M) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Weak Armor
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Surf
- Shell Smash
- Blizzard
- Hidden Power [Rock]

Risk it damn it, risk it! Shell Smash is just too powerful to pass up. Surf and HP Rock are STAB. Surf also hits multiple foes. Blizzard hits multiple foes.

i would also suggest a change in moveset, but not rain dance, but stone edge because I already see that you have rain dance for the ability and one moves, so why not make it two? I would want to change stone edge with scald because if you will look at the pros and cons, we have:
stone edge: -high chance of critical hit
-high 100 base power
-has only moderate accuracy
-even with rain dance, it will still be 100

scald: -has 100 accuracy
-has good 80 base power
-with rain dance, it will already have a deadly 120 base power
- and it has a chance of burning an opponent
so, I personally prefer scald more than stone edge.

Another underrated overlooked Pokemon.

Omastar@White Herb
Ability: Weak/Shell Armor

Shell Smash- Only needs one. White Herb restores his defenses. Weak Armor also uses the White Herb but it is very risky.

Surf/Scald- STAB.

Ice Beam- Coverage.

Ancient Power- STAB.

252 Spe/200 SAtk/56 HP EVs. Modest or Calm nature.
