Question

Typhlosion was introduced as the fully evolved fire starter of the Johto region. He's a fast pokemon and hits hard with special attacks. He's one of the few pokemon able to learn the move Eruption, and can pull it off with heavy damage thanks to his speed. However, his stealth rock weakness, shallow special movepool, and lower physical attack paired with a pretty good physical movepool hold him back a bit. He's generally used as a special sweeper, and makes for a powerful sweeper when used carefully.

Here are some good movesets
Earthquake(if you have an attack nature, if not, don't use this)
Thunderpunch(for water weakness, if he has good attack)
Flamethrower(good STAB move with acc., power, and pp.)
Hidden Power(If he has a grass type hidden power, this would cover all 3 of his weaknesses)

Sunny Day(for solarbeam)
Solarbeam(covers all 3 of typhlosions weaknesses)
Flamethrower(strong STAB)
Brick Break(strong accurate.)

Eruption(though might not be as good as flamethrower in most cases, STAB)
Shadow Claw(strong accurate, good against many types)
Hidden Power(grass type)or solarbeam and sunny day
Flamethrower(when you ar low in health.)

you can replace birck break with focus blast, i know its less accurate, but it ahs great power and you wont need to invest EVS in attack

This is the set I use in OU battles.

Suggested ability: blaze

- Hidden power [ice]
- Fire Blast

Eruption is to be used when at full power to get in some nice levels of damage. Fire blast is good when his health is low and blaze activates. Extrasensory covers a few fighting types like Infernape, and hidden power gives him a chance to break through a few dragons. The scarf will catch several people off guard and give him the shot he needs, or you can go with the specs and get some pretty strong hits.

Which Pokemon can you breed with to get extrasensory on typhlosion? Also, is hidden power affected by sunny day or rain dance? My typhlosion has a pretty powerful hidden power water.

Vulpix or Nuzleaf is the easiest way to go. They can both learn Extrasensory through level up. There are a few that can learn it through breeding, but that's just extra work. Smeargle could sketch it and breed to. Keep in mind that he can only get Extrasensory in Heart Gold or Soul Silver.  Hidden power is affected by the weather if I remember.

This is indeed the best set, Modest Nature, 252 Sp Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP EV spread, Flamethrower and not Fire Blast. I also prefer using HP Fighting over HP Ice. This way I can deal with the ever common Heatran.

I made this set to catch people off guard, since Eruption or flamethrower is very predictable on Typhlosion.
Physical Typhlosion set:
Item: Liechi Berry or Choice Band

Endure-Saves that last bit of health. Works well with the berry.

Reversal-While a trite strategy, it's an unexpected one on Typhlosion.

Fire Punch-STAB; gets power from Blaze, so it can do quite a bit of damage.

Earthquake/Rock slide-This is mainly for type coverage, so you can put in whatever you wish.

This set is mainly for NU or UU use.

Nice, better than the Mixed set with Blast Burn in the Pt/HG/SS games, it was a Serious nature, such a terrible nature, I would go with Jolly nature and replace it with Fire Punch, I totally agree with this set, and I go with holding Salac Berry since Endure/Reversal sets tend to have them so you won't be outsped at just 1 HP remaining.

Flare Blitz:STAB, the recoil helps activate his Blaze ability.

Wild Bolt:-Covers Water weakness;

Reversal:-Works great with Recoil.

Hidden power [grass]-Covers all weaknesses in one move.

This set can work nicely in double battles if you have a pokemon use support moves like heal pulse.

Solarbeam-Cover his weaknesses with one move.

Earthquake-covers several types of pokemon.

Hidden power [Ice]-While he can't cover water and rock types this way (he can with Solarbeam), he can take on dragon types now. It also deals with some flying type threats like Aerodactyl.

This set is obviously outdone by pretty much any physical sweeper, but I tried this out a few times, and it works wonders. Most people switch into something like Chansey to sponge the expected fire blast or eruption, so this gives you a free shot to use howl and boost up his attack. He's got a pretty shallow special movepool (why the hell can't he learn earth power?) but his physical movepool is pretty nice. You could also use the move reversal, allowing him to cover even more pokemon, and work well with the recoil damage you get from wild charge and flare blitz. Though seldom seen, you could also use a focus sash+ covet to make a burglar Typhlosion.

Heat Rock will make Sunny Day more useful,making it last 8 turns,making the Fire type move more powerful and give access to 1 turn Solar beam which is very useful for coverage and power.Focus Blast is coverage and will-o-wisp is for status and attack-defense cut,or you may use any other good move like Extrasensory,etc.

I must admit, this definetily is not the best moveset for Typhlosion, but my Big brother who hasn't played pokemon since Gold and Silver was messing around on my computer today, and he found Pokemon Online, He made Ev's and a moveset, which was fun to watch, and then I put in the Item for him. So in fewer words, this set actually has a little bit of centimental value :]

Suggested ability: Blaze

Eruption-STAB; high power. At full power, this is essentially a blast burn that doesn't require charging. When his health starts to fall, the next move comes into play.

Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Overheat-Flamethrower is the most reliable of the three; overheat is the strongest, but cuts his special attack. Fire blast has the lowest accuracy, but has no other major drawbacks. Go with flamethrower if you want to be safe, but keep in mind that Typhlosion doesn't have time for being safe in most cases.

Hidden power [ice]/[grass]-Grass is there to cover all of his weaknesses at once. ice doesn't offer as much coverage, but gives him the power to tame dragons. Grass is more useful in the lower tiers he typically battles in.

Focus Punch-While this is a special set, Typhlosion can utilize this pretty well, especially if you're gonna risk running him in an upper tier. A Chansey or blissey would be a perfect choice to wall him out, and if you predict that, this focus punch can easily do away with it. An unsuspecting Tyranitar would fall to his 4X weakness. In the tiers we established here, it's pretty useful for taking out a few threats, like the special walling Umbreon.

A Mixed set for the Rain.

Extrasensory gives great coverage for this monster, working nice. Thunder Punch gives some physical coverage and takes out some threatening water types. HP Water gets a boost in the rain, and can do a good bit of damage. While Earthquake is amazing coverage great for anything with a reasonable attack stat.

Well, here is my double/triple battle set, posted after recovering from the seizure induced by J98's Typhlosion.

Do yourself a favor and use this guy in the Sun with Lava Plume team support. Everything besides Eruption (which kills everything in the universe) is coverage.

The Passho Berry is In-case It gets hit with a Water Type Move
when you are using Sunny Day.

Typhlosion is better with a Sp.Atk Move than a physical move like brick break so If you used a wide lens it would help with Focus Blast's bad Accuracy

Typhlosion was my starter Pokemon, so I taught him a really good move set

If yours has a Sp.atk. nature:

Ability-Blaze

Item-Power Herb

Eruption-high damage at the beginning + STAB

Solar Beam-covers all three weaknesses, high power and accuracy

Focus blast-fighting type moves are always a good choice

Over Heat-low HP, when Blaze activates, final attack (probably)

Here's a physical move set:

Same item and ability

Fire punch-Stab/Flare Blitz-STAB, helps Blaze activate

Earthquake-takes out rock types, always a good move

Wild Charge-takes out water types, recoil helps activate Blaze/or Thunderpunch

Solar Beam-Only move in Typhlosion's move pool that deals with ground types

Hi all, I'm new here, but my Typhlosion and I have won many of many battles and his moveset is beast.
Typhlosion's Moveset:
Eruption
Thunderpunch
Earthquake
Flamethrower

I use Eruption at the beginning of the battle since its power is based of HP.
I use Thunderpunch for Type difference and cause its awesome.
I use Earthquake because its a long ranged Ground type move and it works well with a Flying Type, a Pokemon with the Ability Levitate, or a Pokemon with the move Magnet Rise.
And I use Flamethrower because it is a good Fire Type move with a lot of power and its good for the one's you want to beat but don't need the power of Eruption.
